Numbers 16

Korah, en sønn av Jishar, sønn av Kahat, Levis sønn, og Datan og Abiram, sønner av Eliab, og On, en sønn av Pelet, av Rubens ætt, tok en flokk med sig.

Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

De trådte fram for Moses, og sammen med dem to hundre og femti menn av Israels barn, høvdinger i menigheten, utkåret til medlemmer av folkerådet, aktede menn.

And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

De flokket sig sammen mot Moses og Aron og sa til dem: Nu får det være nok! Hele menigheten er hellig, alle sammen, og Herren er midt iblandt dem; hvorfor ophøier I eder da over Herrens menighet?

And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

Da Moses hørte disse ord, falt han på sitt ansikt.

And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

Og han talte til Korah og hele hans flokk og sa: Imorgen skal Herren åpenbare hvem som tilhører ham, og hvem som er hellig, så han lar ham komme nær til sig; og den som han utvelger, ham vil han la komme nær til sig.

And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Gjør nu dette: Ta eder ildkar, både Korah og hele hans flokk,

This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

og ha ild i dem og legg røkelse på dem for Herrens åsyn imorgen, og den mann som Herren utvelger, han skal være den hellige. Det får nu være nok, I Levis barn!

And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

Og Moses sa til Korah: Hør nu, I Levis barn!

And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

Er det for lite for eder at Israels Gud har utskilt eder fra Israels menighet for å la eder komme nær til sig, så I skal utføre tjenesten ved Herrens tabernakel og stå for menighetens åsyn for å tjene den?

Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

Han har latt dig komme nær til, og med dig alle dine brødre, Levis barn; og nu attrår I endog prestedømmet!

And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

Derfor er du og hele din flokk oprørere mot Herren; for hvad er Aron, at I knurrer mot ham?

For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

Så sendte Moses bud efter Datan og Abiram, Eliabs sønner; men de sa: Vi kommer ikke.

And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

Er det ikke nok at du har ført oss op fra et land som flyter med melk og honning, for å la oss dø i ørkenen, siden du endog vil gjøre dig til hersker over oss?

Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

Heller ikke har du ført oss inn i et land som flyter med melk og honning, eller gitt oss åkrer og vingårder i eie; tenker du du kan synkverve disse folk? Vi kommer ikke

Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

Da blev Moses meget vred og sa til Herren: Vend dig ikke til deres offer! Ikke så meget som et asen har jeg tatt fra dem, og ikke en eneste blandt dem har jeg gjort noget ondt.

And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

Så sa Moses til Korah: Imorgen skal du og hele din flokk stille eder frem for Herrens åsyn, du og de og Aron!

And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

Og I skal ta hver sitt ildkar og legge røkelse på dem, og I skal bære hver sitt ildkar frem for Herrens åsyn, to hundre og femti ildkar, og du og Aron skal og ta hver sitt ildkar.

And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

Så tok de hver sitt ildkar og hadde ild i dem og la røkelse på dem; og de stilte sig ved inngangen til sammenkomstens telt, og likeså Moses og Aron.

And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

Og Korah samlet hele menigheten imot dem ved inngangen til sammenkomstens telt; da åpenbarte Herrens herlighet sig for hele menigheten.

And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

Og Herren talte til Moses og Aron og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Skill eder ut fra denne menighet, så vil jeg gjøre ende på dem i et øieblikk.

Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

Men de falt ned på sitt ansikt og sa: Gud, du Gud som råder over livsens ånde i alt kjød! Vredes du på hele menigheten fordi om én mann synder?

And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

Da talte Herren til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Tal til menigheten og si: Gå bort fra hele plassen rundt omkring Korahs, Datans og Abirams bolig!

Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

Så stod Moses op og gikk til Datan og Abiram, og de eldste i Israel fulgte ham.

And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

Og han talte til menigheten og sa: Vik bort fra disse ugudelige menns telter, og rør ikke ved noget av det som hører dem til, forat I ikke skal bli bortrykket for alle deres synders skyld!

And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

Da gikk de bort fra Korahs, Datans og Abirams bolig, rundt omkring; men Datan og Abiram var gått ut og stod i inngangen til sine telt med sine hustruer og sine barn, både store og små.

So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

Og Moses sa: Derpå skal I kjenne at det er Herren som har sendt mig til å gjøre alle disse gjerninger, og at det ikke er av egen drift jeg gjør det:

And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

Dersom disse folk dør på samme måte som alle andre mennesker, eller de hjemsøkes på samme måte som alle andre mennesker, da har Herren ikke sendt mig;

If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

men dersom Herren gjør noget som ikke før er hendt - dersom jorden lukker op sin munn og sluker dem og alle deres, så de farer levende ned i dødsriket, da vet I at disse menn har foraktet Herren.

But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

Med det samme han hadde endt denne tale, da revnet jorden under dem;

And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

jorden lukket op sin munn og slukte dem og deres boliger og alle de folk som hørte Korah til, og alt det de eide,

And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

og de fòr levende ned i dødsriket med alle sine; jorden skjulte dem, og de omkom og blev utryddet av menigheten.

They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

Og hele Israel som stod rundt omkring dem, rømte da de hørte deres skrik; de sa: Jorden kunde sluke oss og.

And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

Og det fòr ild ut fra Herren og fortærte de to hundre og femti menn som hadde båret frem røkelsen.

And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

Da talte Herren til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Si til Eleasar, Arons sønn, presten, at han skal ta ildkarene ut av branden, men sprede glørne langt bort! For de er hellige,

Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

de ildkar som tilhørte disse menn som ved sin synd har forbrutt sitt liv; der skal gjøres tynne plater av dem til å klæ alteret med, for de bar dem frem for Herrens åsyn, og derfor er de hellige; og de skal være til et tegn for Israels barn.

The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

Så tok Eleasar, presten, de ildkar av kobber som de hadde båret frem de menn som var brent op, og lot dem hamre ut til plater til å klæ alteret med,

And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

forat Israels barn skulde komme i hu at ingen fremmed mann - ingen som ikke er av Arons ætt - skulde komme nær til for å brenne røkelse for Herrens åsyn, så det ikke skulde gå ham som det gikk Korah og hans flokk - således som Herren hadde talt til ham ved Moses.

To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

Men dagen efter knurret hele Israels barns menighet mot Moses og Aron og sa: Det er I som har slått Herrens folk ihjel!

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

Da nu menigheten samlet sig imot Moses og Aron, vendte de sig begge mot sammenkomstens telt, og se, skyen dekket det, og Herrens herlighet åpenbarte sig.

And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

Og Moses og Aron gikk frem foran sammenkomstens telt,

And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Gå bort fra denne menighet, så vil jeg gjøre ende på dem i et øieblikk. Da falt de ned på sitt ansikt,

Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

og Moses sa til Aron: Ta ildkaret og ha ild fra alteret i det og legg røkelse på og skynd dig så bort til menigheten med det og gjør soning for dem! For vreden er gått ut fra Herrens åsyn, hjemsøkelsen har begynt.

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

Og Aron gjorde som Moses hadde sagt, og tok ildkaret og løp midt inn i flokken, og se, hjemsøkelsen hadde alt begynt blandt folket. Så la han røkelsen på og gjorde soning for folket,

And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

mens han stod der mellem de døde og de levende; da stanset hjemsøkelsen.

And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

Men det var fjorten tusen og syv hundre mann som døde under hjemsøkelsen, foruten dem som døde for Korahs skyld.

Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

Og Aron vendte tilbake til Moses ved inngangen til sammenkomstens telt; og hjemsøkelsen var stanset.

And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
