Matthew 2

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

عیسیٰ ہیرودیس بادشاہ کے زمانے میں صوبہ یہودیہ کے شہر بیت لحم میں پیدا ہوا۔ اُن دنوں میں کچھ مجوسی عالِم مشرق سے آ کر یروشلم پہنچ گئے۔

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

اُنہوں نے پوچھا، ”یہودیوں کا وہ بادشاہ کہاں ہے جو حال ہی میں پیدا ہوا ہے؟ کیونکہ ہم نے مشرق میں اُس کا ستارہ دیکھا ہے اور ہم اُسے سجدہ کرنے آئے ہیں۔“

When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

یہ سن کر ہیرودیس بادشاہ پورے یروشلم سمیت گھبرا گیا۔

And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

تمام راہنما اماموں اور شریعت کے علما کو جمع کر کے اُس نے اُن سے دریافت کیا کہ مسیح کہاں پیدا ہو گا۔

And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”یہودیہ کے شہر بیت لحم میں، کیونکہ نبی کی معرفت یوں لکھا ہے،

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

’اے ملکِ یہودیہ میں واقع بیت لحم، تُو یہودیہ کے حکمرانوں میں ہر گز سب سے چھوٹا نہیں۔ کیونکہ تجھ میں سے ایک حکمران نکلے گا جو میری قوم اسرائیل کی گلہ بانی کرے گا‘۔“

Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

اِس پر ہیرودیس نے خفیہ طور پر مجوسی عالِموں کو بُلا کر تفصیل سے پوچھا کہ وہ ستارہ کس وقت دکھائی دیا تھا۔

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

پھر اُس نے اُنہیں بتایا، ”بیت لحم جائیں اور تفصیل سے بچے کا پتا لگائیں۔ جب آپ اُسے پا لیں تو مجھے اطلاع دیں تاکہ مَیں بھی جا کر اُسے سجدہ کروں۔“

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

بادشاہ کے اِن الفاظ کے بعد وہ چلے گئے۔ اور دیکھو جو ستارہ اُنہوں نے مشرق میں دیکھا تھا وہ اُن کے آگے آگے چلتا گیا اور چلتے چلتے اُس مقام کے اوپر ٹھہر گیا جہاں بچہ تھا۔

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

ستارے کو دیکھ کر وہ بہت خوش ہوئے۔

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

وہ گھر میں داخل ہوئے اور بچے کو ماں کے ساتھ دیکھ کر اُنہوں نے اوندھے منہ گر کر اُسے سجدہ کیا۔ پھر اپنے ڈبے کھول کر اُسے سونے، لُبان اور مُر کے تحفے پیش کئے۔

And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

جب روانگی کا وقت آیا تو وہ یروشلم سے ہو کر نہ گئے بلکہ ایک اَور راستے سے اپنے ملک چلے گئے، کیونکہ اُنہیں خواب میں آگاہ کیا گیا تھا کہ ہیرودیس کے پاس واپس نہ جاؤ۔

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

اُن کے چلے جانے کے بعد رب کا فرشتہ خواب میں یوسف پر ظاہر ہوا اور کہا، ”اُٹھ، بچے کو اُس کی ماں سمیت لے کر مصر کو ہجرت کر جا۔ جب تک مَیں تجھے اطلاع نہ دوں وہیں ٹھہرا رہ، کیونکہ ہیرودیس بچے کو تلاش کرے گا تاکہ اُسے قتل کرے۔“

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

یوسف اُٹھا اور اُسی رات بچے کو اُس کی ماں سمیت لے کر مصر کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

وہاں وہ ہیرودیس کے انتقال تک رہا۔ یوں وہ بات پوری ہوئی جو رب نے نبی کی معرفت فرمائی تھی، ”مَیں نے اپنے فرزند کو مصر سے بُلایا۔“

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

جب ہیرودیس کو معلوم ہوا کہ مجوسی عالِموں نے مجھے فریب دیا ہے تو اُسے بڑا طیش آیا۔ اُس نے اپنے فوجیوں کو بیت لحم بھیج کر اُنہیں حکم دیا کہ بیت لحم اور ارد گرد کے علاقے کے اُن تمام لڑکوں کو قتل کریں جن کی عمر دو سال تک ہو۔ کیونکہ اُس نے مجوسیوں سے بچے کی عمر کے بارے میں یہ معلوم کر لیا تھا۔

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

یوں یرمیاہ نبی کی پیش گوئی پوری ہوئی،

In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

”رامہ میں شور مچ گیا ہے، رونے پیٹنے اور شدید ماتم کی آوازیں۔ راخل اپنے بچوں کے لئے رو رہی ہے اور تسلی قبول نہیں کر رہی، کیونکہ وہ ہلاک ہو گئے ہیں۔“

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

جب ہیرودیس انتقال کر گیا تو رب کا فرشتہ خواب میں یوسف پر ظاہر ہوا جو ابھی مصر ہی میں تھا۔

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

فرشتے نے اُسے بتایا، ”اُٹھ، بچے کو اُس کی ماں سمیت لے کر ملکِ اسرائیل واپس چلا جا، کیونکہ جو بچے کو جان سے مارنے کے درپَے تھے وہ مر گئے ہیں۔“

And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

چنانچہ یوسف اُٹھا اور بچے اور اُس کی ماں کو لے کر ملکِ اسرائیل میں لوٹ آیا۔

But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

لیکن جب اُس نے سنا کہ ارخلاؤس اپنے باپ ہیرودیس کی جگہ یہودیہ میں تخت نشین ہو گیا ہے تو وہ وہاں جانے سے ڈر گیا۔ پھر خواب میں ہدایت پا کر وہ گلیل کے علاقے کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

وہاں وہ ایک شہر میں جا بسا جس کا نام ناصرت تھا۔ یوں نبیوں کی بات پوری ہوئی کہ ’وہ ناصری کہلائے گا۔‘
