Acts 24

And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

پانچ دن کے بعد امامِ اعظم حننیاہ، کچھ یہودی بزرگ اور ایک وکیل بنام ترطلس قیصریہ آئے تاکہ گورنر کے سامنے پولس پر اپنا الزام پیش کریں۔

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

پولس کو بُلایا گیا تو ترطلس نے فیلکس کو یہودیوں کا الزام پیش کیا، ”آپ کے زیرِ حکومت ہمیں بڑا امن و امان حاصل ہے، اور آپ کی دُور اندیشی سے اِس ملک میں بہت ترقی ہوئی ہے۔

We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

معزز فیلکس، اِن تمام باتوں کے لئے ہم آپ کے خاص ممنون ہیں۔

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

لیکن مَیں نہیں چاہتا کہ آپ میری باتوں سے حد سے زیادہ تھک جائیں۔ عرض صرف یہ ہے کہ آپ ہم پر مہربانی کا اظہار کر کے ایک لمحے کے لئے ہمارے معاملے پر توجہ دیں۔

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

ہم نے اِس آدمی کو عوام دشمن پایا ہے جو پوری دنیا کے یہودیوں میں فساد پیدا کرتا رہتا ہے۔ یہ ناصری فرقے کا ایک سرغنہ ہے

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

اور ہمارے بیت المُقدّس کی بےحرمتی کرنے کی کوشش کر رہا تھا جب ہم نے اِسے پکڑا [تاکہ اپنی شریعت کے مطابق اِس پر مقدمہ چلائیں۔

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

مگر لوسیاس کمانڈر آ کر اِسے زبردستی ہم سے چھین کر لے گیا اور حکم دیا کہ اِس کے مدعی آپ کے پاس حاضر ہوں۔]

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

اِس کی پوچھ گچھ کر کے آپ خود ہمارے الزامات کی تصدیق کرا سکتے ہیں۔“

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

پھر باقی یہودیوں نے اُس کی ہاں میں ہاں ملا کر کہا کہ یہ واقعی ایسا ہی ہے۔

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

گورنر نے اشارہ کیا کہ پولس اپنی بات پیش کرے۔ اُس نے جواب میں کہا، ”مَیں جانتا ہوں کہ آپ کئی سالوں سے اِس قوم کے جج مقرر ہیں، اِس لئے خوشی سے آپ کو اپنا دفاع پیش کرتا ہوں۔

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

آپ خود معلوم کر سکتے ہیں کہ مجھے یروشلم گئے صرف بارہ دن ہوئے ہیں۔ جانے کا مقصد عبادت میں شریک ہونا تھا۔

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

وہاں نہ مَیں نے بیت المُقدّس میں کسی سے بحث مباحثہ کیا، نہ شہر کے کسی عبادت خانے میں یا کسی اَور جگہ ہل چل مچائی۔ اِن لوگوں نے بھی میری کوئی ایسی حرکت نہیں دیکھی۔

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

جو الزام یہ مجھ پر لگا رہے ہیں اُس کا کوئی بھی ثبوت پیش نہیں کر سکتے۔

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

بےشک مَیں تسلیم کرتا ہوں کہ مَیں اُسی راہ پر چلتا ہوں جسے یہ بدعت قرار دیتے ہیں۔ لیکن مَیں اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کی پرستش کرتا ہوں۔ جو کچھ بھی شریعت اور نبیوں کے صحیفوں میں لکھا ہے اُسے مَیں مانتا ہوں۔

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

اور مَیں اللہ پر وہی اُمید رکھتا ہوں جو یہ بھی رکھتے ہیں، کہ قیامت کا ایک دن ہو گا جب وہ راست بازوں اور ناراستوں کو مُردوں میں سے زندہ کر دے گا۔

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

اِس لئے میری پوری کوشش یہی ہوتی ہے کہ ہر وقت میرا ضمیر اللہ اور انسان کے سامنے صاف ہو۔

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

کئی سالوں کے بعد مَیں یروشلم واپس آیا۔ میرے پاس قوم کے غریبوں کے لئے خیرات تھی اور مَیں بیت المُقدّس میں قربانیاں بھی پیش کرنا چاہتا تھا۔

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

مجھ پر الزام لگانے والوں نے مجھے بیت المُقدّس میں دیکھا جب مَیں طہارت کی رسومات ادا کر رہا تھا۔ اُس وقت نہ کوئی ہجوم تھا، نہ فساد۔

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

لیکن صوبہ آسیہ کے کچھ یہودی وہاں تھے۔ اگر اُنہیں میرے خلاف کوئی شکایت ہے تو اُنہیں ہی یہاں حاضر ہو کر مجھ پر الزام لگانا چاہئے۔

Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

یا یہ لوگ خود بتائیں کہ جب مَیں یہودی عدالتِ عالیہ کے سامنے کھڑا تھا تو اُنہوں نے میرا کیا جرم معلوم کیا۔

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

صرف یہ ایک جرم ہو سکتا ہے کہ مَیں نے اُس وقت اُن کے حضور پکار کر یہ بات بیان کی، ’آج مجھ پر اِس لئے الزام لگایا جا رہا ہے کہ مَیں ایمان رکھتا ہوں کہ مُردے جی اُٹھیں گے‘۔“

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

فیلکس نے جو عیسیٰ کی راہ سے خوب واقف تھا مقدمہ ملتوی کر دیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”جب کمانڈر لوسیاس آئیں گے پھر مَیں فیصلہ دوں گا۔“

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

اُس نے پولس پر مقرر افسر کو حکم دیا کہ وہ اُس کی پہرہ داری تو کرے لیکن اُسے کچھ سہولیات بھی دے اور اُس کے عزیزوں کو اُس سے ملنے اور اُس کی خدمت کرنے سے نہ روکے۔

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

کچھ دنوں کے بعد فیلکس اپنی اہلیہ دروسلہ کے ہمراہ واپس آیا۔ دروسلہ یہودی تھی۔ پولس کو بُلا کر اُنہوں نے عیسیٰ پر ایمان کے بارے میں اُس کی باتیں سنیں۔

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

لیکن جب راست بازی، ضبطِ نفس اور آنے والی عدالت کے مضامین چھڑ گئے تو فیلکس نے گھبرا کر اُس کی بات کاٹی، ”فی الحال کافی ہے۔ اب اجازت ہے، جب میرے پاس وقت ہو گا مَیں آپ کو بُلا لوں گا۔“

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

ساتھ ساتھ وہ یہ اُمید بھی رکھتا تھا کہ پولس رشوت دے گا، اِس لئے وہ کئی بار اُسے بُلا کر اُس سے بات کرتا رہا۔

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

دو سال گزر گئے تو فیلکس کی جگہ پُرکیُس فیستس آ گیا۔ تاہم اُس نے پولس کو قیدخانے میں چھوڑ دیا، کیونکہ وہ یہودیوں کے ساتھ رعایت برتنا چاہتا تھا۔
