Acts 12

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

اُن دنوں میں بادشاہ ہیرودیس اگرپا جماعت کے کچھ ایمان داروں کو گرفتار کر کے اُن سے بدسلوکی کرنے لگا۔

And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

اِس سلسلے میں اُس نے یعقوب رسول (یوحنا کے بھائی) کو تلوار سے قتل کروایا۔

And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

جب اُس نے دیکھا کہ یہ حرکت یہودیوں کو پسند آئی ہے تو اُس نے پطرس کو بھی گرفتار کر لیا۔ اُس وقت بےخمیری روٹی کی عید منائی جا رہی تھی۔

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

اُس نے اُسے جیل میں ڈال کر چار دستوں کے حوالے کر دیا کہ اُس کی پہرہ داری کریں (ہر دستے میں چار فوجی تھے)۔ خیال تھا کہ عید کے بعد ہی پطرس کو عوام کے سامنے کھڑا کر کے اُس کی عدالت کی جائے۔

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

یوں پطرس قیدخانے میں رہا۔ لیکن ایمان داروں کی جماعت لگاتار اُس کے لئے دعا کرتی رہی۔

And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

پھر عدالت کا دن قریب آ گیا۔ پطرس رات کے وقت سو رہا تھا۔ اگلے دن ہیرودیس اُسے پیش کرنا چاہتا تھا۔ پطرس دو فوجیوں کے درمیان لیٹا ہوا تھا جو دو زنجیروں سے اُس کے ساتھ بندھے ہوئے تھے۔ دیگر فوجی دروازے کے سامنے پہرہ دے رہے تھے۔

And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

اچانک ایک تیز روشنی کوٹھڑی میں چمک اُٹھی اور رب کا ایک فرشتہ پطرس کے سامنے آ کھڑا ہوا۔ اُس نے اُس کے پہلو کو جھٹکا دے کر اُسے جگا دیا اور کہا، ”جلدی کرو! اُٹھو!“ تب پطرس کی کلائیوں پر کی زنجیریں گر گئیں۔

And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

پھر فرشتے نے اُسے بتایا، ”اپنے کپڑے اور جوتے پہن لو۔“ پطرس نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ فرشتے نے کہا، ”اب اپنی چادر اوڑھ کر میرے پیچھے ہو لو۔“

And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

چنانچہ پطرس کوٹھڑی سے نکل کر فرشتے کے پیچھے ہو لیا اگرچہ اُسے اب تک سمجھ نہیں آئی تھی کہ جو کچھ ہو رہا ہے حقیقی ہے۔ اُس کا خیال تھا کہ مَیں رویا دیکھ رہا ہوں۔

When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

دونوں پہلے پہرے سے گزر گئے، پھر دوسرے سے اور یوں شہر میں پہنچانے والے لوہے کے گیٹ کے پاس آئے۔ یہ خود بخود کھل گیا اور وہ دونوں نکل کر ایک گلی میں چلنے لگے۔ چلتے چلتے فرشتے نے اچانک پطرس کو چھوڑ دیا۔

And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

پھر پطرس ہوش میں آ گیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”واقعی، خداوند نے اپنے فرشتے کو میرے پاس بھیج کر مجھے ہیرودیس کے ہاتھ سے بچایا ہے۔ اب یہودی قوم کی توقع پوری نہیں ہو گی۔“

And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

جب یہ بات اُسے سمجھ آئی تو وہ یوحنا مرقس کی ماں مریم کے گھر چلا گیا۔ وہاں بہت سے افراد جمع ہو کر دعا کر رہے تھے۔

And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

پطرس نے گیٹ کھٹکھٹایا تو ایک نوکرانی دیکھنے کے لئے آئی۔ اُس کا نام رُدی تھا۔

And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

جب اُس نے پطرس کی آواز پہچان لی تو وہ خوشی کے مارے گیٹ کو کھولنے کے بجائے دوڑ کر اندر چلی گئی اور بتایا، ”پطرس گیٹ پر کھڑے ہیں!“

And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

حاضرین نے کہا، ”ہوش میں آؤ!“ لیکن وہ اپنی بات پر اَڑی رہی۔ پھر اُنہوں نے کہا، ”یہ اُس کا فرشتہ ہو گا۔“

But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

اب تک پطرس باہر کھڑا کھٹکھٹا رہا تھا۔ چنانچہ اُنہوں نے گیٹ کو کھول دیا۔ پطرس کو دیکھ کر وہ حیران رہ گئے۔

But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

لیکن اُس نے اپنے ہاتھ سے خاموش رہنے کا اشارہ کیا اور اُنہیں سارا واقعہ سنایا کہ خداوند مجھے کس طرح جیل سے نکال لایا ہے۔ ”یعقوب اور باقی بھائیوں کو بھی یہ بتانا،“ یہ کہہ کر وہ کہیں اَور چلا گیا۔

Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

اگلی صبح جیل کے فوجیوں میں بڑی ہل چل مچ گئی کہ پطرس کا کیا ہوا ہے۔

And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.

جب ہیرودیس نے اُسے ڈھونڈا اور نہ پایا تو اُس نے پہرے داروں کا بیان لے کر اُنہیں سزائے موت دے دی۔ اِس کے بعد وہ یہودیہ سے چلا گیا اور قیصریہ میں رہنے لگا۔

And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

اُس وقت وہ صور اور صیدا کے باشندوں سے نہایت ناراض تھا۔ اِس لئے دونوں شہروں کے نمائندے مل کر صلح کی درخواست کرنے کے لئے اُس کے پاس آئے۔ وجہ یہ تھی کہ اُن کی خوراک ہیرودیس کے ملک سے حاصل ہوتی تھی۔ اُنہوں نے بادشاہ کے محل کے انچارج بلستس کو اِس پر آمادہ کیا کہ وہ اُن کی مدد کرے

And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

اور بادشاہ سے ملنے کا دن مقرر کیا۔ جب وہ دن آیا تو ہیرودیس اپنا شاہی لباس پہن کر تخت پر بیٹھ گیا اور ایک علانیہ تقریر کی۔

And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

عوام نے نعرے لگا لگا کر پکارا، ”یہ اللہ کی آواز ہے، انسان کی نہیں۔“

And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

وہ ابھی یہ کہہ رہے تھے کہ رب کے فرشتے نے ہیرودیس کو مارا، کیونکہ اُس نے لوگوں کی پرستش قبول کر کے اللہ کو جلال نہیں دیا تھا۔ وہ بیمار ہوا اور کیڑوں نے اُس کے جسم کو کھا کھا کر ختم کر دیا۔ اِسی حالت میں وہ مر گیا۔

But the word of God grew and multiplied.

لیکن اللہ کا کلام بڑھتا اور پھیلتا گیا۔

And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

اِتنے میں برنباس اور ساؤل انطاکیہ کا ہدیہ لے کر یروشلم پہنچ چکے تھے۔ اُنہوں نے پیسے وہاں کے بزرگوں کے سپرد کر دیئے اور پھر یوحنا مرقس کو ساتھ لے کر واپس چلے گئے۔
