II Samuel 14

Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.

یوآب بن ضرویاہ کو معلوم ہوا کہ بادشاہ اپنے بیٹے ابی سلوم کو چاہتا ہے،

And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

اِس لئے اُس نے تقوع سے ایک دانش مند عورت کو بُلایا۔ یوآب نے اُسے ہدایت دی، ”ماتم کا روپ بھریں جیسے آپ دیر سے کسی کا ماتم کر رہی ہوں۔ ماتم کے کپڑے پہن کر خوشبودار تیل مت لگانا۔

And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر اُس سے بات کریں۔“ پھر یوآب نے عورت کو لفظ بہ لفظ وہ کچھ سکھایا جو اُسے بادشاہ کو بتانا تھا۔

And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.

داؤد کے دربار میں آ کر عورت نے اوندھے منہ جھک کر التماس کی، ”اے بادشاہ، میری مدد کریں!“

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead.

داؤد نے دریافت کیا، ”کیا مسئلہ ہے؟“ عورت نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں بیوہ ہوں، میرا شوہر فوت ہو گیا ہے۔

And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him.

اور میرے دو بیٹے تھے۔ ایک دن وہ باہر کھیت میں ایک دوسرے سے اُلجھ پڑے۔ اور چونکہ کوئی موجود نہیں تھا جو دونوں کو الگ کرتا اِس لئے ایک نے دوسرے کو مار ڈالا۔

And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.

اُس وقت سے پورا کنبہ میرے خلاف اُٹھ کھڑا ہوا ہے۔ وہ تقاضا کرتے ہیں کہ مَیں اپنے بیٹے کو اُن کے حوالے کروں۔ وہ کہتے ہیں، ’اُس نے اپنے بھائی کو مار دیا ہے، اِس لئے ہم بدلے میں اُسے سزائے موت دیں گے۔ اِس طرح وارث بھی نہیں رہے گا۔‘ یوں وہ میری اُمید کی آخری کرن کو ختم کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔ کیونکہ اگر میرا یہ بیٹا بھی مر جائے تو میرے شوہر کا نام قائم نہیں رہے گا، اور اُس کا خاندان رُوئے زمین پر سے مٹ جائے گا۔“

And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee.

بادشاہ نے عورت سے کہا، ”اپنے گھر چلی جائیں اور فکر نہ کریں۔ مَیں معاملہ حل کر دوں گا۔“

And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.

لیکن عورت نے گزارش کی، ”اے بادشاہ، ڈر ہے کہ لوگ پھر بھی مجھے مجرم ٹھہرائیں گے اگر میرے بیٹے کو سزائے موت نہ دی جائے۔ آپ پر تو وہ الزام نہیں لگائیں گے۔“

And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

داؤد نے اصرار کیا، ”اگر کوئی آپ کو تنگ کرے تو اُسے میرے پاس لے آئیں۔ پھر وہ آئندہ آپ کو نہیں ستائے گا!“

Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

عورت کو تسلی نہ ہوئی۔ اُس نے گزارش کی، ”اے بادشاہ، براہِ کرم رب اپنے خدا کی قَسم کھائیں کہ آپ کسی کو بھی موت کا بدلہ نہیں لینے دیں گے۔ ورنہ نقصان میں اضافہ ہو گا اور میرا دوسرا بیٹا بھی ہلاک ہو جائے گا۔“ داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”رب کی حیات کی قَسم، آپ کے بیٹے کا ایک بال بھی بیکا نہیں ہو گا۔“

Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.

پھر عورت اصل بات پر آ گئی، ”میرے آقا، براہِ کرم اپنی خادمہ کو ایک اَور بات کرنے کی اجازت دیں۔“ بادشاہ بولا، ”کریں بات۔“

And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king doth speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished.

تب عورت نے کہا، ”آپ خود کیوں اللہ کی قوم کے خلاف ایسا ارادہ رکھتے ہیں جسے آپ نے ابھی ابھی غلط قرار دیا ہے؟ آپ نے خود فرمایا ہے کہ یہ ٹھیک نہیں، اور یوں آپ نے اپنے آپ کو ہی مجرم ٹھہرایا ہے۔ کیونکہ آپ نے اپنے بیٹے کو رد کر کے اُسے واپس آنے نہیں دیا۔

For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

بےشک ہم سب کو کسی وقت مرنا ہے۔ ہم سب زمین پر اُنڈیلے گئے پانی کی مانند ہیں جسے زمین جذب کر لیتی ہے اور جو دوبارہ جمع نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔ لیکن اللہ ہماری زندگی کو بلاوجہ مٹا نہیں دیتا بلکہ ایسے منصوبے تیار رکھتا ہے جن کے ذریعے مردود شخص بھی اُس کے پاس واپس آ سکے اور اُس سے دُور نہ رہے۔

Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid.

اے بادشاہ میرے آقا، مَیں اِس وقت اِس لئے آپ کے حضور آئی ہوں کہ میرے لوگ مجھے ڈرانے کی کوشش کر رہے ہیں۔ مَیں نے سوچا، مَیں بادشاہ سے بات کرنے کی جرٲت کروں گی، شاید وہ میری سنیں

For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

اور مجھے اُس آدمی سے بچائیں جو مجھے اور میرے بیٹے کو اُس موروثی زمین سے محروم رکھنا چاہتا ہے جو اللہ نے ہمیں دے دی ہے۔

Then thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.

خیال یہ تھا کہ اگر بادشاہ معاملہ حل کر دیں تو پھر مجھے دوبارہ سکون ملے گا، کیونکہ آپ اچھی اور بُری باتوں کا امتیاز کرنے میں اللہ کے فرشتے جیسے ہیں۔ رب آپ کا خدا آپ کے ساتھ ہو۔“

Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.

یہ سب کچھ سن کر داؤد بول اُٹھا، ”اب مجھے ایک بات بتائیں۔ اِس کا صحیح جواب دیں۔“ عورت نے جواب دیا، ”جی میرے آقا، بات فرمایئے۔“ داؤد نے پوچھا، ”کیا یوآب نے آپ سے یہ کام کروایا؟“

And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid:

عورت پکاری، ”بادشاہ کی حیات کی قَسم، جو کچھ بھی میرے آقا فرماتے ہیں وہ نشانے پر لگ جاتا ہے، خواہ بندہ بائیں یا دائیں طرف ہٹنے کی کوشش کیوں نہ کرے۔ جی ہاں، آپ کے خادم یوآب نے مجھے آپ کے حضور بھیج دیا۔ اُس نے مجھے لفظ بہ لفظ سب کچھ بتایا جو مجھے آپ کو عرض کرنا تھا،

To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

کیونکہ وہ آپ کو یہ بات براہِ راست نہیں پیش کرنا چاہتا تھا۔ لیکن میرے آقا کو اللہ کے فرشتے کی سی حکمت حاصل ہے۔ جو کچھ بھی ملک میں وقوع میں آتا ہے اُس کا آپ کو پتا چل جاتا ہے۔“

And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again.

داؤد نے یوآب کو بُلا کر اُس سے کہا، ”ٹھیک ہے، مَیں آپ کی درخواست پوری کروں گا۔ جائیں، میرے بیٹے ابی سلوم کو واپس لے آئیں۔“

And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.

یوآب اوندھے منہ جھک گیا اور بولا، ”رب بادشاہ کو برکت دے! میرے آقا، آج مجھے معلوم ہوا ہے کہ مَیں آپ کو منظور ہوں، کیونکہ آپ نے اپنے خادم کی درخواست کو پورا کیا ہے۔“

So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

یوآب روانہ ہو کر جسور چلا گیا اور وہاں سے ابی سلوم کو واپس لایا۔

And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.

لیکن جب وہ یروشلم پہنچے تو بادشاہ نے حکم دیا، ”اُسے اپنے گھر میں رہنے کی اجازت ہے، لیکن وہ کبھی مجھے نظر نہ آئے۔“ چنانچہ ابی سلوم اپنے گھر میں دوبارہ رہنے لگا، لیکن بادشاہ سے کبھی ملاقات نہ ہو سکی۔

But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

پورے اسرائیل میں ابی سلوم جیسا خوب صورت آدمی نہیں تھا۔ سب اُس کی خاص تعریف کرتے تھے، کیونکہ سر سے لے کر پاؤں تک اُس میں کوئی نقص نظر نہیں آتا تھا۔

And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year's end that he polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it:) he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king's weight.

سال میں وہ ایک ہی مرتبہ اپنے بال کٹواتا تھا، کیونکہ اِتنے میں اُس کے بال حد سے زیادہ وزنی ہو جاتے تھے۔ جب اُنہیں تولا جاتا تو اُن کا وزن تقریباً سوا دو کلو گرام ہوتا تھا۔

And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance.

ابی سلوم کے تین بیٹے اور ایک بیٹی تھی۔ بیٹی کا نام تمر تھا اور وہ نہایت خوب صورت تھی۔

So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face.

دو سال گزر گئے، پھر بھی ابی سلوم کو بادشاہ سے ملنے کی اجازت نہ ملی۔

Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come.

پھر اُس نے یوآب کو اطلاع بھیجی کہ وہ اُس کی سفارش کرے۔ لیکن یوآب نے آنے سے انکار کیا۔ ابی سلوم نے اُسے دوبارہ بُلانے کی کوشش کی، لیکن اِس بار بھی یوآب اُس کے پاس نہ آیا۔

Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

تب ابی سلوم نے اپنے نوکروں کو حکم دیا، ”دیکھو، یوآب کا کھیت میرے کھیت سے ملحق ہے، اور اُس میں جَو کی فصل پک رہی ہے۔ جاؤ، اُسے آگ لگا دو!“ نوکر گئے اور ایسا ہی کیا۔

Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?

جب کھیت میں آگ لگ گئی تو یوآب بھاگ کر ابی سلوم کے پاس آیا اور شکایت کی، ”آپ کے نوکروں نے میرے کھیت کو آگ کیوں لگائی ہے؟“

And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.

ابی سلوم نے جواب دیا، ”دیکھیں، آپ نہیں آئے جب مَیں نے آپ کو بُلایا۔ کیونکہ مَیں چاہتا ہوں کہ آپ بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر اُن سے پوچھیں کہ مجھے جسور سے کیوں لایا گیا۔ بہتر ہوتا کہ مَیں وہیں رہتا۔ اب بادشاہ مجھ سے ملیں یا اگر وہ اب تک مجھے قصوروار ٹھہراتے ہیں تو مجھے سزائے موت دیں۔“

So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.

یوآب نے بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر اُسے یہ پیغام پہنچایا۔ پھر داؤد نے اپنے بیٹے کو بُلایا۔ ابی سلوم اندر آیا اور بادشاہ کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک گیا۔ پھر بادشاہ نے ابی سلوم کو بوسہ دیا۔
