I Kings 20

And Ben–hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

ایک دن شام کے بادشاہ بن ہدد نے اپنی پوری فوج کو جمع کیا۔ 32 اتحادی بادشاہ بھی اپنے رتھوں اور گھوڑوں کو لے کر آئے۔ اِس بڑی فوج کے ساتھ بن ہدد نے سامریہ کا محاصرہ کر کے اسرائیل سے جنگ کا اعلان کیا۔

And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Ben–hadad,

اُس نے اپنے قاصدوں کو شہر میں بھیج کر اسرائیل کے بادشاہ اخی اب کو اطلاع دی،

Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

”اب سے آپ کا سونا، چاندی، خواتین اور بیٹے میرے ہی ہیں۔“

And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نے جواب دیا، ”میرے آقا اور بادشاہ، آپ کی مرضی۔ مَیں اور جو کچھ میرا ہے آپ کی ملکیت ہے۔“

And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben–hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

تھوڑی دیر کے بعد قاصد بن ہدد کی نئی خبر لے کر آئے، ”مَیں نے آپ سے سونے، چاندی، خواتین اور بیٹوں کا تقاضا کیا ہے۔

Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

اب غور کریں! کل اِس وقت مَیں اپنے ملازموں کو آپ کے پاس بھیج دوں گا، اور وہ آپ کے محل اور آپ کے افسروں کے گھروں کی تلاشی لیں گے۔ جو کچھ بھی آپ کو پیارا ہے اُسے وہ لے جائیں گے۔“

Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

تب اخی اب بادشاہ نے ملک کے تمام بزرگوں کو بُلا کر اُن سے بات کی، ”دیکھیں یہ آدمی کتنا بُرا ارادہ رکھتا ہے۔ جب اُس نے میری خواتین، بیٹوں، سونے اور چاندی کا تقاضا کیا تو مَیں نے انکار نہ کیا۔“

And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

بزرگوں اور باقی لوگوں نے مل کر مشورہ دیا، ”اُس کی نہ سنیں، اور جو کچھ وہ مانگتا ہے اُس پر راضی نہ ہو جائیں۔“

Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben–hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

چنانچہ بادشاہ نے قاصدوں سے کہا، ”میرے آقا بادشاہ کو جواب دینا، جو کچھ آپ نے پہلی مرتبہ مانگ لیا وہ مَیں آپ کو دینے کے لئے تیار ہوں، لیکن یہ آخری تقاضا مَیں پورا نہیں کر سکتا۔“ جب قاصدوں نے بن ہدد کو یہ خبر پہنچائی

And Ben–hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

تو اُس نے اخی اب کو فوراً خبر بھیج دی، ”دیوتا مجھے سخت سزا دیں اگر مَیں سامریہ کو نیست و نابود نہ کر دوں۔ اِتنا بھی نہیں رہے گا کہ میرا ہر فوجی مٹھی بھر خاک اپنے ساتھ واپس لے جا سکے!“

And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نے قاصدوں کو جواب دیا، ”اُسے بتا دینا کہ جو ابھی جنگ کی تیاریاں کر رہا ہے وہ فتح کے نعرے نہ لگائے۔“

And it came to pass, when Ben–hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

جب بن ہدد کو یہ اطلاع ملی تو وہ لشکرگاہ میں اپنے اتحادی بادشاہوں کے ساتھ مَے پی رہا تھا۔ اُس نے اپنے افسروں کو حکم دیا، ”حملہ کرنے کے لئے تیاریاں کرو!“ چنانچہ وہ شہر پر حملہ کرنے کی تیاریاں کرنے لگے۔

And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

اِس دوران ایک نبی اخی اب بادشاہ کے پاس آیا اور کہا، ”رب فرماتا ہے، ’کیا تجھے دشمن کی یہ بڑی فوج نظر آ رہی ہے؟ توبھی مَیں اِسے آج ہی تیرے حوالے کر دوں گا۔ تب تُو جان لے گا کہ مَیں ہی رب ہوں‘۔“

And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.

اخی اب نے سوال کیا، ”رب یہ کس کے وسیلے سے کرے گا؟“ نبی نے جواب دیا، ”رب فرماتا ہے کہ ضلعوں پر مقرر افسروں کے جوان یہ فتح پائیں گے۔“ بادشاہ نے مزید پوچھا، ”لڑائی میں کون پہلا قدم اُٹھائے؟“ نبی نے کہا، ”تُو ہی۔“

Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

چنانچہ اخی اب نے ضلعوں پر مقرر افسروں کے جوانوں کو بُلایا۔ 232 افراد تھے۔ پھر اُس نے باقی اسرائیلیوں کو جمع کیا۔ 7,000 افراد تھے۔

And they went out at noon. But Ben–hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

دوپہر کو وہ لڑنے کے لئے نکلے۔ ضلعوں پر مقرر افسروں کے جوان سب سے آگے تھے۔ بن ہدد اور 32 اتحادی بادشاہ لشکرگاہ میں بیٹھے نشے میں دُھت مَے پی رہے تھے کہ اچانک شہر کا جائزہ لینے کے لئے بن ہدد کے بھیجے گئے سپاہی اندر آئے اور کہنے لگے، ”سامریہ سے آدمی نکل رہے ہیں۔“

And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben–hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

دوپہر کو وہ لڑنے کے لئے نکلے۔ ضلعوں پر مقرر افسروں کے جوان سب سے آگے تھے۔ بن ہدد اور 32 اتحادی بادشاہ لشکرگاہ میں بیٹھے نشے میں دُھت مَے پی رہے تھے کہ اچانک شہر کا جائزہ لینے کے لئے بن ہدد کے بھیجے گئے سپاہی اندر آئے اور کہنے لگے، ”سامریہ سے آدمی نکل رہے ہیں۔“

And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

بن ہدد نے حکم دیا، ”ہر صورت میں اُنہیں زندہ پکڑیں، خواہ وہ امن پسند ارادہ رکھتے ہوں یا نہ۔“

So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

لیکن اُنہیں یہ کرنے کا موقع نہ ملا، کیونکہ اسرائیل کے ضلعوں پر مقرر افسروں اور باقی فوجیوں نے شہر سے نکل کر

And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Ben–hadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

فوراً اُن پر حملہ کر دیا۔ اور جس بھی دشمن کا مقابلہ ہوا اُسے مارا گیا۔ تب شام کی پوری فوج بھاگ گئی۔ اسرائیلیوں نے اُن کا تعاقب کیا، لیکن شام کا بادشاہ بن ہدد گھوڑے پر سوار ہو کر چند ایک گھڑسواروں کے ساتھ بچ نکلا۔

And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

اُس وقت اسرائیل کا بادشاہ جنگ کے لئے نکلا اور گھوڑوں اور رتھوں کو تباہ کر کے اَرامیوں کو زبردست شکست دی۔

And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

بعد میں مذکورہ نبی دوبارہ اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کے پاس آیا۔ وہ بولا، ”اب مضبوط ہو کر بڑے دھیان سے سوچیں کہ آنے والے دنوں میں کیا کیا تیاریاں کرنی چاہئیں، کیونکہ اگلے بہار کے موسم میں شام کا بادشاہ دوبارہ آپ پر حملہ کرے گا۔“

And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

شام کے بادشاہ کو بھی مشورہ دیا گیا۔ اُس کے بڑے افسروں نے خیال پیش کیا، ”اسرائیلیوں کے دیوتا پہاڑی دیوتا ہیں، اِس لئے وہ ہم پر غالب آ گئے ہیں۔ لیکن اگر ہم میدانی علاقے میں اُن سے لڑیں تو ہر صورت میں جیتیں گے۔

And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

لیکن ہمارا ایک اَور مشورہ بھی ہے۔ 32 بادشاہوں کو ہٹا کر اُن کی جگہ اپنے افسروں کو مقرر کریں۔

And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

پھر ایک نئی فوج تیار کریں جو تباہ شدہ پرانی فوج جیسی طاقت ور ہو۔ اُس کے اُتنے ہی رتھ اور گھوڑے ہوں جتنے پہلے تھے۔ پھر جب ہم میدانی علاقے میں اُن سے لڑیں گے تو اُن پر ضرور غالب آئیں گے۔“ بادشاہ اُن کی بات مان کر تیاریاں کرنے لگا۔

And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben–hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

جب بہار کا موسم آیا تو وہ شام کے فوجیوں کو جمع کر کے اسرائیل سے لڑنے کے لئے افیق شہر گیا۔

And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

اسرائیلی فوج بھی لڑنے کے لئے جمع ہوئی۔ کھانے پینے کی اشیا کا بندوبست کیا گیا، اور وہ دشمن سے لڑنے کے لئے نکلے۔ جب وہاں پہنچے تو اُنہوں نے اپنے خیموں کو دو جگہوں پر لگایا۔ یہ دو گروہ شام کی وسیع فوج کے مقابلے میں بکریوں کے دو چھوٹے ریوڑوں جیسے لگ رہے تھے، کیونکہ پورا میدان شام کے فوجیوں سے بھرا تھا۔

And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

پھر مردِ خدا نے اخی اب کے پاس آ کر کہا، ”رب فرماتا ہے، ’شام کے لوگ خیال کرتے ہیں کہ رب پہاڑی دیوتا ہے اِس لئے میدانی علاقے میں ناکام رہے گا۔ چنانچہ مَیں اُن کی زبردست فوج کو تیرے حوالے کر دوں گا۔ تب تُو جان لے گا کہ مَیں ہی رب ہوں‘۔“

And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

سات دن تک دونوں فوجیں ایک دوسرے کے مقابل صف آرا رہیں۔ ساتویں دن لڑائی کا آغاز ہوا۔ اسرائیلی اِس مرتبہ بھی شام کی فوج پر غالب آئے۔ اُس دن اُنہوں نے اُن کے ایک لاکھ پیادہ فوجیوں کو مار دیا۔

But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben–hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

باقی فرار ہو کر افیق شہر میں گھس گئے۔ تقریباً 27,000 آدمی تھے۔ لیکن اچانک شہر کی فصیل اُن پر گر گئی، تو وہ بھی ہلاک ہو گئے۔ بن ہدد بادشاہ بھی افیق میں فرار ہوا تھا۔ اب وہ کبھی اِس کمرے میں، کبھی اُس میں کھسک کر چھپنے کی کوشش کر رہا تھا۔

And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

پھر اُس کے افسروں نے اُسے مشورہ دیا، ”سنا ہے کہ اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نرم دل ہوتے ہیں۔ کیوں نہ ہم ٹاٹ اوڑھ کر اور اپنی گردنوں میں رسّے ڈال کر اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کے پاس جائیں؟ شاید وہ آپ کو زندہ چھوڑ دے۔“

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben–hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

چنانچہ بن ہدد کے افسر ٹاٹ اوڑھ کر اور اپنی گردنوں میں رسّے ڈال کر اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کے پاس آئے۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”آپ کا خادم بن ہدد گزارش کرتا ہے کہ مجھے زندہ چھوڑ دیں۔“ اخی اب نے سوال کیا، ”کیا وہ اب تک زندہ ہے؟ وہ تو میرا بھائی ہے!“

Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben–hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben–hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

جب بن ہدد کے افسروں نے جان لیا کہ اخی اب کا رُجحان کس طرف ہے تو اُنہوں نے جلدی سے اِس کی تصدیق کی، ”جی، بن ہدد آپ کا بھائی ہے!“ اخی اب نے حکم دیا، ”جا کر اُسے بُلا لائیں۔“ تب بن ہدد نکل آیا، اور اخی اب نے اُسے اپنے رتھ پر سوار ہونے کی دعوت دی۔

And Ben–hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

بن ہدد نے اخی اب سے کہا، ”مَیں آپ کو وہ تمام شہر واپس کر دیتا ہوں جو میرے باپ نے آپ کے باپ سے چھین لئے تھے۔ آپ ہمارے دار الحکومت دمشق میں تجارتی مراکز بھی قائم کر سکتے ہیں، جس طرح میرے باپ نے پہلے سامریہ میں کیا تھا۔“ اخی اب بولا، ”ٹھیک ہے۔ اِس کے بدلے میں مَیں آپ کو رِہا کر دوں گا۔“ اُنہوں نے معاہدہ کیا، پھر اخی اب نے شام کے بادشاہ کو رِہا کر دیا۔

And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

اُس وقت رب نے نبیوں میں سے ایک کو ہدایت کی، ”جا کر اپنے ساتھی کو کہہ دے کہ وہ تجھے مارے۔“ نبی نے ایسا کیا، لیکن ساتھی نے انکار کیا۔

Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

پھر نبی بولا، ”چونکہ آپ نے رب کی نہیں سنی، اِس لئے جوں ہی آپ مجھ سے چلے جائیں گے شیرببر آپ کو پھاڑ ڈالے گا۔“ اور ایسا ہی ہوا۔ جب ساتھی وہاں سے نکلا تو شیرببر نے اُس پر حملہ کر کے اُسے پھاڑ ڈالا۔

Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

نبی کی ملاقات کسی اَور سے ہوئی تو اُس نے اُس سے بھی کہا، ”مہربانی کر کے مجھے ماریں!“ اُس آدمی نے نبی کو مار مار کر زخمی کر دیا۔

So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

تب نبی نے اپنی آنکھوں پر پٹی باندھی تاکہ اُسے پہچانا نہ جائے، پھر راستے کے کنارے پر اخی اب بادشاہ کے انتظار میں کھڑا ہو گیا۔

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

جب بادشاہ وہاں سے گزرا تو نبی چلّا کر اُس سے مخاطب ہوا، ”جناب، مَیں میدانِ جنگ میں لڑ رہا تھا کہ اچانک کسی آدمی نے میرے پاس آ کر اپنے قیدی کو میرے حوالے کر دیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ’اِس کی نگرانی کرنا۔ اگر یہ کسی بھی وجہ سے بھاگ جائے تو آپ کو اُس کی جان کے عوض اپنی جان دینی پڑے گی یا آپ کو ایک من چاندی ادا کرنی پڑے گی۔‘

And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.

لیکن مَیں اِدھر اُدھر مصروف رہا، اور اِتنے میں قیدی غائب ہو گیا۔“ اخی اب بادشاہ نے جواب دیا، ”آپ نے خود اپنے بارے میں فیصلہ دیا ہے۔ اب آپ کو اِس کا نتیجہ بھگتنا پڑے گا۔“

And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.

پھر نبی نے جلدی سے پٹی کو اپنی آنکھوں پر سے اُتار دیا، اور بادشاہ نے پہچان لیا کہ یہ نبیوں میں سے ایک ہے۔

And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

نبی نے کہا، ”رب فرماتا ہے، ’مَیں نے مقرر کیا تھا کہ بن ہدد کو میرے لئے مخصوص کر کے ہلاک کرنا ہے، لیکن تُو نے اُسے رِہا کر دیا ہے۔ اب اُس کی جگہ تُو ہی مرے گا، اور اُس کی قوم کی جگہ تیری قوم کو نقصان پہنچے گا‘۔“

And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.

اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بڑے غصے اور بدمزاجی کے عالم میں سامریہ میں اپنے محل میں چلا گیا۔
