Galatians 3

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

ای غلاطیان نادان، مرگ عیسی مسیح با چنان روشنی بیان شد كه گویی او در برابر چشمان شما مصلوب شده است. پس چه كسی شما را افسون كرده است؟

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

من از شما فقط یک سؤال دارم: آیا شما روح‌القدس را از راه انجام شریعت به دست آوردید یا از گوش دادن به انجیل و ایمان آوردن به آن؟

Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

چطور می‌توانید تا به این اندازه احمق باشید؟ شما كه با قدرت روح‌القدس شروع كردید، آیا اكنون می‌خواهید با قدرت جسمانی خود به كمال برسید؟

Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

آیا این‌همه تجربیات شما بیهوده بوده است؟ تصوّر نمی‌کنم.

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

آیا خدایی كه روح‌القدس را به شما می‌بخشد و در میان شما معجزه‌ها می‌کند، این كارها را به‌خاطر اینكه احكام شریعت را بجا می‌آورید انجام می‌دهد؟ و یا به‌سبب آنكه انجیل را شنیده و به آن ایمان دارید؟

Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

برای ابراهیم درست همین‌طور شد. «او به خدا ایمان آورد و خدا آن ایمان را به عنوان نیكی مطلق به حسابش گذاشت.»

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

پس باید بدانید كه ایمانداران، فرزندان حقیقی ابراهیم هستند.

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

چون كلام ‌خدا از پیش، زمانی را می‌دید كه خدا غیر یهودیان را از راه ایمان کاملاً نیک محسوب می‌کند. قبلاً به ابراهیم بشارت داده گفت: «به وسیلهٔ تو تمام ملّتها بركت خواهند یافت.»

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

بنابراین ایمانداران در بركات ابراهیم ایماندار، شریک و سهیم هستند.

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

از طرف دیگر همهٔ آنانی كه به اطاعت از شریعت متّکی هستند، ملعونند. زیرا كلام خدا می‌فرماید: «هرکه تمام آنچه را كه در شریعت نوشته شده است، همیشه بجا نیاورد ملعون است.»

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

اكنون کاملاً روشن است كه هیچ‌کس در حضور خدا به وسیلهٔ شریعت نیک شمرده نمی‌شود، زیرا «شخص نیكو به وسیلهٔ ایمان زندگی خواهد كرد.»

And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

امّا شریعت بستگی به ایمان ندارد. زیرا «مجری شریعت با اجرای شریعت زندگی خواهد كرد.»

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

وقتی مسیح به‌خاطر ما ملعون شد، ما را از لعنت شریعت آزاد كرد. زیرا کتاب‌مقدّس می‌فرماید: «هرکه به دار آویخته شود ملعون است.»

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

این‌همه واقع شد تا بركتی كه خدا به ابراهیم وعده داده بود، به وسیلهٔ عیسی مسیح به غیر یهودیان برسد تا ما روح‌القدس موعود را از راه ایمان به دست آوریم.

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

ای دوستان من، می‌خواهم از یک مَثَل معمولی استفاده كنم: هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند به پیمانی كه تأیید شده است، چیزی بیافزاید یا آن را باطل سازد.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

باری، وعده‌ها به ابراهیم و فرزند او داده شد و نمی‌گوید: «فرزندان» تا شامل بسیاری گردد. بلكه به یک فرزند یعنی به مسیح اشاره می‌کند.

And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

مقصود من این است: شریعتی كه چهارصد و سی سال بعد برقرار گردید، نمی‌تواند پیمانی را كه خدا با ابراهیم بست، فسخ نماید به طوری که وعدهٔ خدا را باطل سازد.

For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

زیرا اگر كسب بركت بسته به شریعت باشد، دیگر آن به وعدهٔ خدا بستگی ندارد. امّا خدا بنابر وعدهٔ خود آن را به ابراهیم عنایت فرمود.

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

پس مقصود از شریعت چیست؟ شریعت چیزی بود كه بعدها برای تشخیص گناه اضافه شد و قرار بود فقط تا زمان ظهور فرزند ابراهیم كه وعده به او داده شده بود، دوام داشته باشد. همین شریعت به وسیلهٔ فرشتگان و با دست یک واسطه برقرار شد.

Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

هرجا واسطه‌ای باشد، وجود طرفین مسلّم است. امّا وعده، تنها یک طرف دارد؛ یعنی خدا.

Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

بنابراین آیا شریعت با وعده‌های خدا سازگار نیست؟ ابداً! زیرا اگر شریعتی داده شده بود كه قادر به بخشیدن حیات بود، البتّه نیكی مطلق نیز به وسیلهٔ شریعت میسّر می‌شد.

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

امّا كلام خدا همه را اسیر گناه دانسته است تا بركت موعود كه از راه ایمان به عیسی مسیح به دست می‌آید به ایمانداران عطا شود.

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

امّا قبل از رسیدن دورهٔ ایمان، همهٔ ما محبوس و تحت تسلّط شریعت بودیم و در انتظار آن ایمانی كه در شُرُف ظهور بود به سر می‌بردیم.

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

به این ترتیب شریعت دایهٔ ما بود كه ما را به مسیح برساند تا به وسیلهٔ ایمان کاملاً نیک محسوب شویم،

But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

امّا چون اكنون دورهٔ ایمان رسیده است دیگر تحت مراقبت دایه نیستیم،

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

زیرا ایمان باعث شد كه همهٔ شما در اتّحاد با مسیح عیسی فرزندان خدا باشید.

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

شما كه در اتّحاد با مسیح تعمید گرفتید، هم‌فكر او شده‌اید.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

پس دیگر هیچ تفاوتی میان یهودی و غیر یهودی، برده و آزاد، مرد و زن وجود ندارد، زیرا همهٔ شما در اتّحاد با عیسی مسیح یک هستید

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

و اگر متعلّق به مسیح هستید، فرزند ابراهیم و مطابق وعدهٔ خدا، وارث او هستید.
