Acts 8

And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.

شائول جزء كسانی بود، كه با قتل استیفان موافقت كرده بودند. در همان‌روز جفای سختی به كلیسای اورشلیم شروع شد و همهٔ ایمانداران به جز رسولان به نواحی یهودیه و سامره پراكنده شدند.

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

گروهی از نیكوكاران جسد استیفان را به خاک سپردند و سوگواری بزرگی برای او ترتیب دادند.

As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

شائول سعی می‌کرد، كه بنیاد كلیسا را براندازد. او خانه به خانه می‌گشت و زنها و مردها را بیرون می‌كشید و به زندان می‌انداخت.

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

و امّا آنانی كه پراكنده شده بودند به هرجا كه می‌رفتند، پیام خدا را اعلام می‌کردند.

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

فیلیپُس به شهری از سامره وارد شد و در آنجا به اعلام نام مسیح پرداخت

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

و مردم یک دل و با اشتیاق به سخنان او گوش می‌دادند و معجزاتی را كه انجام می‌داد می‌دیدند.

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

ارواح پلید با فریاد از مبتلایان بسیار خارج می‌شدند و عدّهٔ زیادی از مفلوجان و لنگان شفا می‌یافتند

And there was great joy in that city.

و در آن شهر شادی عظیمی برپا شد.

But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

مردی شمعون نام در آن شهر زندگی می‌کرد كه برای مدّتی سامریان را فریفتهٔ کارهای جادوگرانهٔ خود كرده و مدّعی بود كه او شخص بزرگی است.

To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

همهٔ آنان از بزرگ و كوچک با توجّه كامل به او گوش می‌دادند و می‌گفتند: «این شخص قدرت همان خدایی است كه عظیم نام دارد.»

And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

آنها احترام زیادی به او می‌گذاشتند زیرا او سالهای سال با جادوگری آنها را افسون كرده بود.

But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

امّا وقتی به مژدهٔ فیلیپُس دربارهٔ پادشاهی خدا و نام عیسی مسیح ایمان آوردند مردها و زنها تعمید یافتند.

Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

حتّی خود شمعون نیز ایمان آورد و تعمید گرفت و پس از آن دیگر از فیلیپُس دور نشد و وقتی عجایب و معجزاتی را كه به وسیلهٔ فیلیپُس به عمل می‌آمد می‌دید مات و مبهوت می‌شد.

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

همین‌که رسولان ساکن اورشلیم باخبر شدند كه در سامره هم پیام خدا با استقبال روبه‌رو شده است، پطرس و یوحنا را پیش آنان فرستادند.

Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

وقتی آنها به آنجا رسیدند، برای ایمانداران دعا كردند تا روح‌القدس را بیابند،

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

زیرا آنها فقط به نام عیسی خداوند تعمید گرفته بودند و تا آن زمان روح خداوند بر آنان نازل نشده بود.

Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

بنابراین پطرس و یوحنا دست بر سر آنان گذاردند و آنان روح‌القدس را یافتند.

And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

وقتی شمعون دید كه با دستگذاری رسولان روح‌القدس عطا می‌شود، پولهای خود را پیش پطرس و یوحنا آورد

Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

و گفت: «همان قدرت را به من هم مرحمت كنید تا بر هرکه دست بگذارم، روح‌القدس را بیابد.»

But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

پطرس پاسخ داد: «پولت با خودت هلاک شود، چون گمان کرده‌ای كه بخشش رایگان خدا را با پول می‌توان خرید.

Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

تو از این بابت هیچ نصیبی نداری؛ زیرا دل تو پیش خدا ناراست است.

Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

از این شرارت توبه كن و از خداوند بخواه تا شاید تو را برای داشتن چنین فكری ببخشد.

For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

من می‌بینم كه زندگی تو تلخ و زهرآگین است و در زنجیرهای شرارت گرفتاری.»

Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

شمعون در پاسخ خواهش كرده گفت: «برای من به درگاه خداوند دعا كنید تا هیچ‌یک از چیزهایی را كه دربارهٔ من گفتید عملی نشود.»

And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

پس از آنكه پطرس و یوحنا شهادت‌های خود را دادند و پیغام خداوند را اعلام كردند، به اورشلیم بازگشتند و در بین راه مژدهٔ نجات را به بسیاری از دهكده‌های سامره رسانیدند.

And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

فرشتهٔ خداوند به فیلیپُس گفت: «برخیز به طرف جنوب، به آن جاده‌ای كه از اورشلیم به غزه می‌رود برو.» (این جاده یک راه بیابانی است.)

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

او بلند شد و به طرف آنجا حركت كرد. یک خواجه سرای حبشی كه در دربار ملكهٔ حبشه به نام كندا مقام مهمی داشت و خزانه‌دار او بود برای عبادت به اورشلیم آمده بود.

Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

در این هنگام در راه بازگشت به وطن در كالسكه‌ای نشسته بود و كتاب اشعیای نبی را می‌خواند.

Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

روح خدا به فیلیپُس گفت: «نزدیک برو و خود را به آن كالسكه برسان.»

And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

پس فیلیپُس به سوی آن دوید و شنید كه او كتاب اشعیا را می‌خواند و پرسید: «آیا آنچه می‌خوانی می‌فهمی؟»

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

او پاسخ داد: «تا كسی مرا راهنمایی نكند، چطور می‌توانم آن را بفهمم؟» خواجه سرا از فیلیپُس خواهش كرد كه سوار كالسكه بشود و پهلوی او بنشیند.

The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

آن قسمتی را كه می‌خواند چنین بود: «او مانند گوسفندی كه به كشتارگاه می‌برند، یا مثل برّه‌ای كه پیش پشم‌چینان زبان نمی‌گشاید، كلامی به زبان نیاورد.

In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

بدین‌گونه او را حقیر شمردند و حقانیّتش را نادیده گرفتند. چه كسی دربارهٔ فرزندان او سخن خواهد گفت؟ زیرا حیات او از روی زمین منقطع شده است.»

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

آن خواجه سرا به فیلیپُس گفت: «تمنّا دارم به من بگو كه نبی در اینجا دربارهٔ چه كسی سخن می‌گوید، دربارهٔ خودش یا كسی دیگر.»

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

آنگاه فیلیپُس شروع كرده و از همان قسمت كتاب‌مقدّس، مژدهٔ عیسی را به او رسانید.

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

همان‌طور كه می‌رفتند به آبی رسیدند. خواجه سرا گفت: «نگاه كن، در اینجا آب هست؛ چه چیزی مانع تعمید گرفتن من است؟»

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

فیلیپُس گفت: «اگر با تمام دل ایمان آوری هیچ مانعی وجود ندارد.» خواجه سرا پاسخ داد: «من ایمان دارم كه عیسی مسیح، پسر خداست.»

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

خواجه سرا دستور داد كالسكه را نگه دارند. او و فیلیپُس داخل آب رفتند و فیلیپُس او را تعمید داد.

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

وقتی از آب بیرون آمدند، روح خداوند ناگهان فیلیپُس را در ربود و خواجه سرا دیگر او را ندید و شادی‌كنان به راه خود رفت.

But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.

امّا فیلیپُس در اشدود دیده شد كه در همهٔ شهرهای آن ناحیه می‌گشت و بشارت می‌داد تا سرانجام به قیصریه رسید.
