II Corinthians 3

شاید بگویید كه ما به خودستایی پرداخته‌ایم! آیا ما مثل دیگران از طرف شما و یا برای شما به سفارشنامه محتاجیم؟

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

بهترین سفارشنامهٔ ما شما هستید، كه در دلهای ما نوشته شده تا تمام مردم آن را بخوانند و بفهمند.

Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

شما نامهٔ سرگشاده‌ای هستید كه مسیح آن را نوشته و توسط ما به دیگران رسانیده است. این نامه با مركب و بر روی تخته سنگ نوشته نشده است بلكه نامه‌ای است كه روح خدای زنده بر قلبهای انسانی نوشته است.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

ما فقط به علّت اطمینانی كه به خدا داریم، به وسیلهٔ مسیح چنین ادّعایی می‌کنیم.

And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

در خود لیاقتی نمی‌بینیم كه بگوییم ما صلاحیّت انجام چنین كاری را داشته‌ایم. خیر! بلكه لیاقت ما از جانب خداست.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

او ما را لایق گردانید كه خدمتگزار پیمان جدید باشیم و این پیمان یک سند كتبی نیست، بلكه از روح خداست، زیرا شریعت نوشته شده، انسان را به مرگ می‌کشاند امّا روح خدا حیات می‌بخشد.

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

اگر دوران شریعت كه بر سنگ حک شده بود و به مرگ می‌انجامید، با چنان شكوهی شروع شد كه قوم اسرائیل به علّت نوری كه در صورت موسی می‌درخشید نتوانستند به چهرهٔ او نگاه كنند، هرچند كه آن نور به تدریج ناپدید می‌شد،

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

پس دورهٔ ظهور روح‌القدس چقدر با شكوه‌تر خواهد بود.

How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

و اگر دورانی كه شریعت مردم را محكوم می‌ساخت، با چنان شكوهی همراه بود، پس دوره‌ای كه مردم تبرئه می‌شوند باید چقدر شكوه و جلال بیشتری داشته باشد!

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

در واقع می‌توان گفت كه دوران پرشكوه اول، تمام جلوه و جلال خود را در برابر شكوه و جلال بیشتر دوران دوم از دست داده است.

For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

و اگر آنچه كه به تدریج ناپدید می‌گشت دارای چنین شكوه و جلالی بود، پس آنچه دایمی است، باید دارای چه شكوه بیشتری باشد؟!

For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

چون چنین امیدی داریم با شهامت سخن می‌گوییم.

Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

ما مثل موسی نیستیم كه نقابی بر صورت خویش گذاشت تا قوم اسرائیل پایان آن شكوه زودگذر را نبینند.

And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

ذهنهای آنها كند شده و تا به امروز در موقع خواندن عهد عتیق این نقاب باقیمانده است و برداشته نمی‌شود، زیرا فقط به وسیلهٔ مسیح برداشته خواهد شد.

But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

آری تا به امروز هروقت آنها تورات موسی را می‌خوانند آن نقاب ذهنشان را می‌پوشاند.

But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

امّا به محض اینکه كسی به خداوند روی آورد، آن نقاب برداشته می‌شود.

Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

و در اینجا مقصود از كلمهٔ «خداوند»، روح‌القدس است و هرجا روح خداوند باشد، در آنجا آزادی هست.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

و همهٔ ما درحالی‌که با صورتهای بی‌نقاب مانند آیینه‌ای جلال خداوند را منعكس می‌کنیم، به تدریج در جلالی روز افزون به شكل او مبدّل می‌شویم و این كار، كار خداوند یعنی روح‌القدس است.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
