Luke 13

There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilæans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

اُس وقت کچھ لوگ عیسیٰ کے پاس پہنچے۔ اُنہوں نے اُسے گلیل کے کچھ لوگوں کے بارے میں بتایا جنہیں پیلاطس نے اُس وقت قتل کروایا تھا جب وہ بیت المُقدّس میں قربانیاں پیش کر رہے تھے۔ یوں اُن کا خون قربانیوں کے خون کے ساتھ ملایا گیا تھا۔

And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they suffered such things?

عیسیٰ نے یہ سن کر پوچھا، ”کیا تمہارے خیال میں یہ لوگ گلیل کے باقی لوگوں سے زیادہ گناہ گار تھے کہ اِنہیں اِتنا دُکھ اُٹھانا پڑا؟

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

ہرگز نہیں! بلکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اگر تم توبہ نہ کرو تو تم بھی اِسی طرح تباہ ہو جاؤ گے۔

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

یا اُن 18 افراد کے بارے میں تمہارا کیا خیال ہے جو مر گئے جب شِلوخ کا بُرج اُن پر گرا؟ کیا وہ یروشلم کے باقی باشندوں کی نسبت زیادہ گناہ گار تھے؟

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

ہرگز نہیں! مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اگر تم توبہ نہ کرو تو تم بھی تباہ ہو جاؤ گے۔“

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

پھر عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں یہ تمثیل سنائی، ”کسی نے اپنے باغ میں انجیر کا درخت لگایا۔ جب وہ اُس کا پھل توڑنے کے لئے آیا تو کوئی پھل نہیں تھا۔

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

یہ دیکھ کر اُس نے مالی سے کہا، ’مَیں تین سال سے اِس کا پھل توڑنے آتا ہوں، لیکن آج تک کچھ بھی نہیں ملا۔ اِسے کاٹ ڈال۔ یہ زمین کی طاقت کیوں ختم کرے؟‘

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

لیکن مالی نے کہا، ’جناب، اِسے ایک سال اَور رہنے دیں۔ مَیں اِس کے ارد گرد گوڈی کر کے کھاد ڈالوں گا۔

And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

پھر اگر یہ اگلے سال پھل لایا تو ٹھیک، ورنہ اِسے کٹوا ڈالنا‘۔“

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

سبت کے دن عیسیٰ کسی عبادت خانے میں تعلیم دے رہا تھا۔

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

وہاں ایک عورت تھی جو 18 سال سے بدروح کے باعث بیمار تھی۔ وہ کبڑی ہو گئی تھی اور سیدھی کھڑی ہونے کے بالکل قابل نہ تھی۔

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

جب عیسیٰ نے اُسے دیکھا تو پکار کر کہا، ”اے عورت، تُو اپنی بیماری سے چھوٹ گئی ہے!“

And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

اُس نے اپنے ہاتھ اُس پر رکھے تو وہ فوراً سیدھی کھڑی ہو کر اللہ کی تمجید کرنے لگی۔

And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

لیکن عبادت خانے کا راہنما ناراض ہوا کیونکہ عیسیٰ نے سبت کے دن شفا دی تھی۔ اُس نے لوگوں سے کہا، ”ہفتے کے چھ دن کام کرنے کے لئے ہوتے ہیں۔ اِس لئے اتوار سے لے کر جمعہ تک شفا پانے کے لئے آؤ، نہ کہ سبت کے دن۔“

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

خداوند نے جواب میں اُس سے کہا، ”تم کتنے ریاکار ہو! کیا تم میں سے ہر کوئی سبت کے دن اپنے بَیل یا گدھے کو کھول کر اُسے تھان سے باہر نہیں لے جاتا تاکہ اُسے پانی پلائے؟

And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

اب اِس عورت کو دیکھو جو ابراہیم کی بیٹی ہے اور جو 18 سال سے ابلیس کے بندھن میں تھی۔ جب تم سبت کے دن اپنے جانوروں کی مدد کرتے ہو تو کیا یہ ٹھیک نہیں کہ عورت کو اِس بندھن سے رِہائی دلائی جاتی، چاہے یہ کام سبت کے دن ہی کیوں نہ کیا جائے؟“

And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

عیسیٰ کے اِس جواب سے اُس کے مخالف شرمندہ ہو گئے۔ لیکن عام لوگ اُس کے اِن تمام شاندار کاموں سے خوش ہوئے۔

Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”اللہ کی بادشاہی کس چیز کی مانند ہے؟ مَیں اِس کا موازنہ کس سے کروں؟

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

وہ رائی کے ایک دانے کی مانند ہے جو کسی نے اپنے باغ میں بو دیا۔ بڑھتے بڑھتے وہ درخت سا بن گیا اور پرندوں نے اُس کی شاخوں میں اپنے گھونسلے بنا لئے۔“

And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

اُس نے دوبارہ پوچھا، ”اللہ کی بادشاہی کا کس چیز سے موازنہ کروں؟

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

وہ اُس خمیر کی مانند ہے جو کسی عورت نے لے کر تقریباً 27 کلو گرام آٹے میں ملا دیا۔ گو وہ اُس میں چھپ گیا توبھی ہوتے ہوتے پورے گُندھے ہوئے آٹے کو خمیر کر گیا۔“

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

عیسیٰ تعلیم دیتے دیتے مختلف شہروں اور دیہاتوں میں سے گزرا۔ اب اُس کا رُخ یروشلم ہی کی طرف تھا۔

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

اِتنے میں کسی نے اُس سے پوچھا، ”خداوند، کیا کم لوگوں کو نجات ملے گی؟“ اُس نے جواب دیا،

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

”تنگ دروازے میں سے داخل ہونے کی سرتوڑ کوشش کرو۔ کیونکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ بہت سے لوگ اندر جانے کی کوشش کریں گے، لیکن بےفائدہ۔

When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

ایک وقت آئے گا کہ گھر کا مالک اُٹھ کر دروازہ بند کر دے گا۔ پھر تم باہر کھڑے رہو گے اور کھٹکھٹاتے کھٹکھٹاتے التماس کرو گے، ’خداوند، ہمارے لئے دروازہ کھول دیں۔‘ لیکن وہ جواب دے گا، ’نہ مَیں تم کو جانتا ہوں، نہ یہ کہ تم کہاں کے ہو۔‘

Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

پھر تم کہو گے، ’ہم نے تو آپ کے سامنے ہی کھایا اور پیا اور آپ ہی ہماری سڑکوں پر تعلیم دیتے رہے۔‘

But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

لیکن وہ جواب دے گا، ’نہ مَیں تم کو جانتا ہوں، نہ یہ کہ تم کہاں کے ہو۔ اے تمام بدکارو، مجھ سے دُور ہو جاؤ!‘

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

وہاں تم روتے اور دانت پیستے رہو گے۔ کیونکہ تم دیکھو گے کہ ابراہیم، اسحاق، یعقوب اور تمام نبی اللہ کی بادشاہی میں ہیں جبکہ تم کو نکال دیا گیا ہے۔

And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

اور لوگ مشرق، مغرب، شمال اور جنوب سے آ کر اللہ کی بادشاہی کی ضیافت میں شریک ہوں گے۔

And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

اُس وقت کچھ ایسے ہوں گے جو پہلے آخر تھے، لیکن اب اوّل ہوں گے۔ اور کچھ ایسے بھی ہوں گے جو پہلے اوّل تھے، لیکن اب آخر ہوں گے۔“

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

اُس وقت کچھ فریسی عیسیٰ کے پاس آ کر اُس سے کہنے لگے، ”اِس مقام کو چھوڑ کر کہیں اَور چلے جائیں، کیونکہ ہیرودیس آپ کو قتل کرنے کا ارادہ رکھتا ہے۔“

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”جاؤ، اُس لومڑی کو بتا دو، ’آج اور کل مَیں بدروحیں نکالتا اور مریضوں کو شفا دیتا رہوں گا۔ پھر تیسرے دن مَیں پایہ تکمیل کو پہنچوں گا۔‘

Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

اِس لئے لازم ہے کہ مَیں آج، کل اور پرسوں آگے چلتا رہوں۔ کیونکہ ممکن نہیں کہ کوئی نبی یروشلم سے باہر ہلاک ہو۔

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

ہائے یروشلم، یروشلم! تُو جو نبیوں کو قتل کرتی اور اپنے پاس بھیجے ہوئے پیغمبروں کو سنگسار کرتی ہے۔ مَیں نے کتنی ہی بار تیری اولاد کو جمع کرنا چاہا، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح مرغی اپنے بچوں کو اپنے پَروں تلے جمع کر کے محفوظ کر لیتی ہے۔ لیکن تُو نے نہ چاہا۔

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

اب تیرے گھر کو ویران و سنسان چھوڑا جائے گا۔ اور مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں، تم مجھے اُس وقت تک دوبارہ نہیں دیکھو گے جب تک تم نہ کہو کہ مبارک ہے وہ جو رب کے نام سے آتا ہے۔“
