Luke 12

In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

اِتنے میں کئی ہزار لوگ جمع ہو گئے تھے۔ بڑی تعداد کی وجہ سے وہ ایک دوسرے پر گرے پڑتے تھے۔ پھر عیسیٰ اپنے شاگردوں سے یہ بات کرنے لگا، ”فریسیوں کے خمیر یعنی ریاکاری سے خبردار!

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

جو کچھ بھی ابھی چھپا ہوا ہے اُسے آخر میں ظاہر کیا جائے گا اور جو کچھ بھی اِس وقت پوشیدہ ہے اُس کا راز آخر میں کھل جائے گا۔

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

اِس لئے جو کچھ تم نے اندھیرے میں کہا ہے وہ روزِ روشن میں سنایا جائے گا اور جو کچھ تم نے اندرونی کمروں کا دروازہ بند کر کے آہستہ آہستہ کان میں بیان کیا ہے اُس کا چھتوں سے اعلان کیا جائے گا۔

And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

میرے عزیزو، اُن سے مت ڈرنا جو صرف جسم کو قتل کرتے ہیں اور مزید نقصان نہیں پہنچا سکتے۔

But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ کس سے ڈرنا ہے۔ اللہ سے ڈرو، جو تمہیں ہلاک کرنے کے بعد جہنم میں پھینکنے کا اختیار بھی رکھتا ہے۔ جی ہاں، اُسی سے خوف کھاؤ۔

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

کیا پانچ چڑیاں دو پیسوں میں نہیں بِکتیں؟ توبھی اللہ ہر ایک کی فکر کر کے ایک کو بھی نہیں بھولتا۔

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

ہاں، بلکہ تمہارے سر کے سب بال بھی گنے ہوئے ہیں۔ لہٰذا مت ڈرو۔ تمہاری قدر و قیمت بہت سی چڑیوں سے کہیں زیادہ ہے۔

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں، جو بھی لوگوں کے سامنے میرا اقرار کرے اُس کا اقرار ابنِ آدم بھی فرشتوں کے سامنے کرے گا۔

But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

لیکن جو لوگوں کے سامنے میرا انکار کرے اُس کا بھی اللہ کے فرشتوں کے سامنے انکار کیا جائے گا۔

And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

اور جو بھی ابنِ آدم کے خلاف بات کرے اُسے معاف کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ لیکن جو روح القدس کے خلاف کفر بکے اُسے معاف نہیں کیا جائے گا۔

And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

جب لوگ تم کو عبادت خانوں میں اور حاکموں اور اختیار والوں کے سامنے گھسیٹ کر لے جائیں گے تو یہ سوچتے سوچتے پریشان نہ ہو جانا کہ مَیں کس طرح اپنا دفاع کروں یا کیا کہوں،

For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

کیونکہ روح القدس تم کو اُسی وقت سکھا دے گا کہ تم کو کیا کہنا ہے۔“

And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

کسی نے بھیڑ میں سے کہا، ”اُستاد، میرے بھائی سے کہیں کہ میراث کا میرا حصہ مجھے دے۔“

And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”بھئی، کس نے مجھے تم پر جج یا تقسیم کرنے والا مقرر کیا ہے؟“

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

پھر اُس نے اُن سے مزید کہا، ”خبردار! ہر قسم کے لالچ سے بچے رہنا، کیونکہ انسان کی زندگی اُس کے مال و دولت کی کثرت پر منحصر نہیں۔“

And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

اُس نے اُنہیں ایک تمثیل سنائی۔ ”کسی امیر آدمی کی زمین میں اچھی فصل پیدا ہوئی۔

And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

چنانچہ وہ سوچنے لگا، ’اب مَیں کیا کروں؟ میرے پاس تو اِتنی جگہ نہیں جہاں مَیں سب کچھ جمع کر کے رکھوں۔‘

And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

پھر اُس نے کہا، ’مَیں یہ کروں گا کہ اپنے گوداموں کو ڈھا کر اِن سے بڑے تعمیر کروں گا۔ اُن میں اپنا تمام اناج اور باقی پیداوار جمع کر لوں گا۔

And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

پھر مَیں اپنے آپ سے کہوں گا کہ لو، اِن اچھی چیزوں سے تیری ضروریات بہت سالوں تک پوری ہوتی رہیں گی۔ اب آرام کر۔ کھا، پی اور خوشی منا۔‘

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

لیکن اللہ نے اُس سے کہا، ’احمق! اِسی رات تُو مر جائے گا۔ تو پھر جو چیزیں تُو نے جمع کی ہیں وہ کس کی ہوں گی؟‘

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

یہی اُس شخص کا انجام ہے جو صرف اپنے لئے چیزیں جمع کرتا ہے جبکہ وہ اللہ کے سامنے غریب ہے۔“

And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

پھر عیسیٰ نے اپنے شاگردوں سے کہا، ”اِس لئے اپنی زندگی کی ضروریات پوری کرنے کے لئے پریشان نہ رہو کہ ہائے، مَیں کیا کھاؤں۔ اور جسم کے لئے فکرمند نہ رہو کہ ہائے، مَیں کیا پہنوں۔

The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

زندگی تو کھانے سے زیادہ اہم ہے اور جسم پوشاک سے زیادہ۔

Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

کوّوں پر غور کرو۔ نہ وہ بیج بوتے، نہ فصلیں کاٹتے ہیں۔ اُن کے پاس نہ سٹور ہوتا ہے، نہ گودام۔ توبھی اللہ خود اُنہیں کھانا کھلاتا ہے۔ اور تمہاری قدر و قیمت تو پرندوں سے کہیں زیادہ ہے۔

And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

کیا تم میں سے کوئی فکر کرتے کرتے اپنی زندگی میں ایک لمحے کا بھی اضافہ کر سکتا ہے؟

If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

اگر تم فکر کرنے سے اِتنی چھوٹی سی تبدیلی بھی نہیں لا سکتے تو پھر تم باقی باتوں کے بارے میں کیوں فکرمند ہو؟

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

غور کرو کہ سوسن کے پھول کس طرح اُگتے ہیں۔ نہ وہ محنت کرتے، نہ کاتتے ہیں۔ لیکن مَیں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں کہ سلیمان بادشاہ اپنی پوری شان و شوکت کے باوجود ایسے شاندار کپڑوں سے ملبّس نہیں تھا جیسے اُن میں سے ایک۔

If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

اگر اللہ اُس گھاس کو جو آج میدان میں ہے اور کل آگ میں جھونکی جائے گی ایسا شاندار لباس پہناتا ہے تو اے کم اعتقادو، وہ تم کو پہنانے کے لئے کیا کچھ نہیں کرے گا؟

And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

اِس کی تلاش میں نہ رہنا کہ کیا کھاؤ گے یا کیا پیؤ گے۔ ایسی باتوں کی وجہ سے بےچین نہ رہو۔

For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

کیونکہ دنیا میں جو ایمان نہیں رکھتے وہی اِن تمام چیزوں کے پیچھے بھاگتے رہتے ہیں، جبکہ تمہارے باپ کو پہلے سے معلوم ہے کہ تم کو اِن کی ضرورت ہے۔

But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

چنانچہ اُسی کی بادشاہی کی تلاش میں رہو۔ پھر یہ تمام چیزیں بھی تم کو مل جائیں گی۔

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

اے چھوٹے گلے، مت ڈرنا، کیونکہ تمہارے باپ نے تم کو بادشاہی دینا پسند کیا۔

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

اپنی ملکیت بیچ کر غریبوں کو دے دینا۔ اپنے لئے ایسے بٹوے بنواؤ جو نہیں گھستے۔ اپنے لئے آسمان پر ایسا خزانہ جمع کرو جو کبھی ختم نہیں ہو گا اور جہاں نہ کوئی چور آئے گا، نہ کوئی کیڑا اُسے خراب کرے گا۔

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

کیونکہ جہاں تمہارا خزانہ ہے وہیں تمہارا دل بھی لگا رہے گا۔

Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

خدمت کے لئے تیار کھڑے رہو اور اِس پر دھیان دو کہ تمہارے چراغ جلتے رہیں۔

And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

یعنی ایسے نوکروں کی مانند جن کا مالک کسی شادی سے واپس آنے والا ہے اور وہ اُس کے لئے تیار کھڑے ہیں۔ جوں ہی وہ آ کر دستک دے وہ دروازے کو کھول دیں گے۔

Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

وہ نوکر مبارک ہیں جنہیں مالک آ کر جاگتے ہوئے اور چوکس پائے گا۔ مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ یہ دیکھ کر مالک اپنے کپڑے بدل کر اُنہیں بٹھائے گا اور میز پر اُن کی خدمت کرے گا۔

And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

ہو سکتا ہے مالک آدھی رات یا اِس کے بعد آئے۔ اگر وہ اِس صورت میں بھی اُنہیں مستعد پائے تو وہ مبارک ہیں۔

And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

یقین جانو، اگر کسی گھر کے مالک کو پتا ہوتا کہ چور کب آئے گا تو وہ ضرور اُسے گھر میں نقب لگانے نہ دیتا۔

Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

تم بھی تیار رہو، کیونکہ ابنِ آدم ایسے وقت آئے گا جب تم اِس کی توقع نہیں کرو گے۔“

Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

پطرس نے پوچھا، ”خداوند، کیا یہ تمثیل صرف ہمارے لئے ہے یا سب کے لئے؟“

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

خداوند نے جواب دیا، ”کون سا نوکر وفادار اور سمجھ دار ہے؟ فرض کرو کہ گھر کے مالک نے کسی نوکر کو باقی نوکروں پر مقرر کیا ہو۔ اُس کی ایک ذمہ داری یہ بھی ہے کہ اُنہیں وقت پر مناسب کھانا کھلائے۔

Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

وہ نوکر مبارک ہو گا جو مالک کی واپسی پر یہ سب کچھ کر رہا ہو گا۔

Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ یہ دیکھ کر مالک اُسے اپنی پوری جائیداد پر مقرر کرے گا۔

But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

لیکن فرض کرو کہ نوکر اپنے دل میں سوچے، ’مالک کی واپسی میں ابھی دیر ہے۔‘ وہ نوکروں اور نوکرانیوں کو پیٹنے لگے اور کھاتے پیتے وہ نشے میں رہے۔

The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

اگر وہ ایسا کرے تو مالک ایسے دن اور وقت آئے گا جس کی توقع نوکر کو نہیں ہو گی۔ اِن حالات کو دیکھ کر وہ نوکر کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر ڈالے گا اور اُسے غیرایمان داروں میں شامل کرے گا۔

And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

جو نوکر اپنے مالک کی مرضی کو جانتا ہے، لیکن اُس کے لئے تیاریاں نہیں کرتا، نہ اُسے پوری کرنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے، اُس کی خوب پٹائی کی جائے گی۔

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

اِس کے مقابلے میں وہ جو مالک کی مرضی کو نہیں جانتا اور اِس بنا پر کوئی قابلِ سزا کام کرے اُس کی کم پٹائی کی جائے گی۔ کیونکہ جسے بہت دیا گیا ہو اُس سے بہت طلب کیا جائے گا۔ اور جس کے سپرد بہت کچھ کیا گیا ہو اُس سے کہیں زیادہ مانگا جائے گا۔

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

مَیں زمین پر آگ لگانے آیا ہوں، اور کاش وہ پہلے ہی بھڑک رہی ہوتی!

But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

لیکن اب تک میرے سامنے ایک بپتسمہ ہے جسے لینا ضروری ہے۔ اور مجھ پر کتنا دباؤ ہے جب تک اُس کی تکمیل نہ ہو جائے۔

Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

کیا تم سمجھتے ہو کہ مَیں دنیا میں صلح سلامتی قائم کرنے آیا ہوں؟ نہیں، مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اِس کی بجائے مَیں اختلاف پیدا کروں گا۔

For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

کیونکہ اب سے ایک گھرانے کے پانچ افراد میں اختلاف ہو گا۔ تین دو کے خلاف اور دو تین کے خلاف ہوں گے۔

The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

باپ بیٹے کے خلاف ہو گا اور بیٹا باپ کے خلاف، ماں بیٹی کے خلاف اور بیٹی ماں کے خلاف، ساس بہو کے خلاف اور بہو ساس کے خلاف۔“

And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

عیسیٰ نے ہجوم سے یہ بھی کہا، ”جوں ہی کوئی بادل مغربی اُفق سے چڑھتا ہوا نظر آئے تو تم کہتے ہو کہ بارش ہو گی۔ اور ایسا ہی ہوتا ہے۔

And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

اور جب جنوبی لُو چلتی ہے تو تم کہتے ہو کہ سخت گرمی ہو گی۔ اور ایسا ہی ہوتا ہے۔

Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

اے ریاکارو! تم آسمان و زمین کے حالات پر غور کر کے صحیح نتیجہ نکال لیتے ہو۔ تو پھر تم موجودہ زمانے کے حالات پر غور کر کے صحیح نتیجہ کیوں نہیں نکال سکتے؟

Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

تم خود صحیح فیصلہ کیوں نہیں کر سکتے؟

When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

فرض کرو کہ کسی نے تجھ پر مقدمہ چلایا ہے۔ اگر ایسا ہو تو پوری کوشش کر کہ کچہری میں پہنچنے سے پہلے پہلے معاملہ حل کر کے مخالف سے فارغ ہو جائے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ تجھ کو جج کے سامنے گھسیٹ کر لے جائے، جج تجھے پولیس افسر کے حوالے کرے اور پولیس افسر تجھے جیل میں ڈال دے۔

I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.

مَیں تجھے بتاتا ہوں، وہاں سے تُو اُس وقت تک نہیں نکل پائے گا جب تک جرمانے کی پوری پوری رقم ادا نہ کر دے۔“
