Isaiah 40

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

تمہارا رب فرماتا ہے، ”تسلی دو، میری قوم کو تسلی دو!

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.

نرمی سے یروشلم سے بات کرو، بلند آواز سے اُسے بتاؤ کہ تیری غلامی کے دن پورے ہو گئے ہیں، تیرا قصور معاف ہو گیا ہے۔ کیونکہ تجھے رب کے ہاتھ سے تمام گناہوں کی دُگنی سزا مل گئی ہے۔“

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

ایک آواز پکار رہی ہے، ”ریگستان میں رب کی راہ تیار کرو! بیابان میں ہمارے خدا کا راستہ سیدھا بناؤ۔

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

لازم ہے کہ ہر وادی بھر دی جائے، ضروری ہے کہ ہر پہاڑ اور بلند جگہ میدان بن جائے۔ جو ٹیڑھا ہے اُسے سیدھا کیا جائے، جو ناہموار ہے اُسے ہموار کیا جائے۔

And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

تب اللہ کا جلال ظاہر ہو جائے گا، اور تمام انسان مل کر اُسے دیکھیں گے۔ یہ رب کے اپنے منہ کا فرمان ہے۔“

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:

ایک آواز نے کہا، ”زور سے آواز دے!“ مَیں نے پوچھا، ”مَیں کیا کہوں؟“ ”یہ کہ تمام انسان گھاس ہی ہیں، اُن کی تمام شان و شوکت جنگلی پھول کی مانند ہے۔

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.

جب رب کا سانس اُن پر سے گزرے تو گھاس مُرجھا جاتی اور پھول گر جاتا ہے، کیونکہ انسان گھاس ہی ہے۔

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

گھاس تو مُرجھا جاتی اور پھول گر جاتا ہے، لیکن ہمارے خدا کا کلام ابد تک قائم رہتا ہے۔“

O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

اے صیون، اے خوش خبری کے پیغمبر، بلندیوں پر چڑھ جا! اے یروشلم، اے خوش خبری کے پیغمبر، زور سے آواز دے! پکار کر کہہ اور خوف مت کھا۔ یہوداہ کے شہروں کو بتا، ”وہ دیکھو، تمہارا خدا!“

Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

دیکھو، رب قادرِ مطلق بڑی قدرت کے ساتھ آ رہا ہے، وہ بڑی طاقت کے ساتھ حکومت کرے گا۔ دیکھو، اُس کا اجر اُس کے پاس ہے، اور اُس کا انعام اُس کے آگے آگے چلتا ہے۔

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

وہ چرواہے کی طرح اپنے گلے کی گلہ بانی کرے گا۔ وہ بھیڑ کے بچوں کو اپنے بازوؤں میں محفوظ رکھ کر سینے کے ساتھ لگائے پھرے گا اور اُن کی ماؤں کو بڑے دھیان سے اپنے ساتھ لے چلے گا۔

Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

کس نے اپنے ہاتھ سے دنیا کا پانی ناپ لیا ہے؟ کس نے اپنے ہاتھ سے آسمان کی پیمائش کی ہے؟ کس نے زمین کی مٹی کی مقدار معلوم کی یا ترازو سے پہاڑوں کا کُل وزن متعین کیا ہے؟

Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

کس نے رب کے روح کی تحقیق کر پائی؟ کیا اُس کا کوئی مشیر ہے جو اُسے تعلیم دے؟

With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

کیا اُسے کسی سے مشورہ لینے کی ضرورت ہے تاکہ اُسے سمجھ آ کر راست راہ کی تعلیم مل جائے؟ ہرگز نہیں! کیا کسی نے کبھی اُسے علم و عرفان یا سمجھ دار زندگی گزارنے کا فن سکھایا ہے؟ ہر گز نہیں!

Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

یقیناً تمام اقوام رب کے نزدیک بالٹی کے ایک قطرے یا ترازو میں گرد کی مانند ہیں۔ جزیروں کو وہ ریت کے ذروں کی طرح اُٹھا لیتا ہے۔

And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

خواہ لبنان کے تمام درخت اور جانور رب کے لئے قربان کیوں نہ ہوتے توبھی مناسب قربانی کے لئے کافی نہ ہوتے۔

All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

اُس کے سامنے تمام اقوام کچھ بھی نہیں ہیں۔ اُس کی نظر میں وہ ہیچ اور ناچیز ہیں۔

To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

اللہ کا موازنہ کس سے ہو سکتا ہے؟ اُس کا مقابلہ کس تصویر یا مجسمے سے ہو سکتا ہے؟

The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

بُت تو یوں بنتا ہے کہ پہلے دست کار اُسے ڈھال دیتا ہے، پھر سنار اُس پر سونا چڑھا کر اُسے چاندی کی زنجیروں سے سجا دیتا ہے۔

He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.

جو غربت کے باعث یہ نہیں کروا سکتا وہ کم از کم کوئی ایسی لکڑی چن لیتا ہے جو گل سڑ نہیں جاتی۔ پھر وہ کسی ماہر دست کار سے بُت کو یوں بنواتا ہے کہ وہ اپنی جگہ سے نہ ہلے۔

Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

کیا تم کو معلوم نہیں؟ کیا تم نے بات نہیں سنی؟ کیا تمہیں ابتدا سے سنایا نہیں گیا؟ کیا تمہیں دنیا کے قیام سے لے کر آج تک سمجھ نہیں آئی؟

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

رب رُوئے زمین کے اوپر بلندیوں پر تخت نشین ہے جہاں سے انسان ٹڈیوں جیسے لگتے ہیں۔ وہ آسمان کو پردے کی طرح تان کر اور ہر طرف کھینچ کر رہنے کے قابل خیمہ بنا دیتا ہے۔

That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

وہ سرداروں کو ناچیز اور دنیا کے قاضیوں کو ہیچ بنا دیتا ہے۔

Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

وہ نئے پودوں کی مانند ہیں جن کی پنیری ابھی ابھی لگی ہے، بیج ابھی ابھی بوئے گئے ہیں، پودوں نے ابھی ابھی جڑ پکڑی ہے کہ رب اُن پر پھونک مارتا ہے اور وہ مُرجھا جاتے ہیں۔ تب آندھی اُنہیں بھوسے کی طرح اُڑا لے جاتی ہے۔

To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

قدوس خدا فرماتا ہے، ”تم میرا موازنہ کس سے کرنا چاہتے ہو؟ کون میرے برابر ہے؟“

Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

اپنی نظر اُٹھا کر آسمان کی طرف دیکھو۔ کس نے یہ سب کچھ خلق کیا؟ وہ جو آسمانی لشکر کی پوری تعداد باہر لا کر ہر ایک کو نام لے کر بُلاتا ہے۔ اُس کی قدرت اور زبردست طاقت اِتنی عظیم ہے کہ ایک بھی دُور نہیں رہتا۔

Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

اے یعقوب کی قوم، تُو کیوں کہتی ہے کہ میری راہ رب کی نظر سے چھپی رہتی ہے؟ اے اسرائیل، تُو کیوں شکایت کرتا ہے کہ میرا معاملہ میرے خدا کے علم میں نہیں آتا؟

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

کیا تجھے معلوم نہیں، کیا تُو نے نہیں سنا کہ رب لازوال خدا اور دنیا کی انتہا تک کا خالق ہے؟ وہ کبھی نہیں تھکتا، کبھی نڈھال نہیں ہوتا۔ کوئی بھی اُس کی سمجھ کی گہرائیوں تک نہیں پہنچ سکتا۔

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

وہ تھکے ماندوں کو تازگی اور بےبسوں کو تقویت دیتا ہے۔

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

گو نوجوان تھک کر نڈھال ہو جائیں اور جوان آدمی ٹھوکر کھا کر گر جائیں،

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

لیکن رب سے اُمید رکھنے والے نئی طاقت پائیں گے اور عقاب کے سے پَر پھیلا کر بلندیوں تک اُڑیں گے۔ نہ وہ دوڑتے ہوئے تھکیں گے، نہ چلتے ہوئے نڈھال ہو جائیں گے۔
