II Samuel 5

Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

اُس وقت اسرائیل کے تمام قبیلے حبرون میں داؤد کے پاس آئے اور کہا، ”ہم آپ ہی کی قوم اور آپ ہی کے رشتے دار ہیں۔

Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

ماضی میں بھی جب ساؤل بادشاہ تھا تو آپ ہی فوجی مہموں میں اسرائیل کی قیادت کرتے رہے۔ اور رب نے آپ سے وعدہ بھی کیا ہے کہ تُو میری قوم اسرائیل کا چرواہا بن کر اُس پر حکومت کرے گا۔“

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

جب اسرائیل کے تمام بزرگ حبرون پہنچے تو داؤد بادشاہ نے رب کے حضور اُن کے ساتھ عہد باندھا، اور اُنہوں نے اُسے مسح کر کے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنا دیا۔

David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

داؤد 30 سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بن گیا۔ اُس کی حکومت 40 سال تک جاری رہی۔

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

پہلے ساڑھے سات سال وہ صرف یہوداہ کا بادشاہ تھا اور اُس کا دار الحکومت حبرون رہا۔ باقی 33 سال وہ یروشلم میں رہ کر یہوداہ اور اسرائیل دونوں پر حکومت کرتا رہا۔

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

بادشاہ بننے کے بعد داؤد اپنے فوجیوں کے ساتھ یروشلم گیا تاکہ اُس پر حملہ کرے۔ وہاں اب تک یبوسی آباد تھے۔ داؤد کو دیکھ کر یبوسیوں نے اُس کا مذاق اُڑایا، ”آپ ہمارے شہر میں کبھی داخل نہیں ہو پائیں گے! آپ کو روکنے کے لئے ہمارے لنگڑے اور اندھے کافی ہیں۔“ اُنہیں پورا یقین تھا کہ داؤد شہر میں کسی بھی طریقے سے نہیں آ سکے گا۔

Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

توبھی داؤد نے صیون کے قلعے پر قبضہ کر لیا جو آج کل ’داؤد کا شہر‘ کہلاتا ہے۔

And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

جس دن اُنہوں نے شہر پر حملہ کیا اُس نے اعلان کیا، ”جو بھی یبوسیوں پر فتح پانا چاہے اُسے پانی کی سرنگ میں سے گزر کر شہر میں گھسنا پڑے گا تاکہ اُن لنگڑوں اور اندھوں کو مارے جن سے میری جان نفرت کرتی ہے۔“ اِس لئے آج تک کہا جاتا ہے، ”لنگڑوں اور اندھوں کو گھر میں جانے کی اجازت نہیں۔“

So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

یروشلم پر فتح پانے کے بعد داؤد قلعے میں رہنے لگا۔ اُس نے اُسے ’داؤد کا شہر‘ قرار دیا اور اُس کے ارد گرد شہر کو بڑھانے لگا۔ یہ تعمیری کام ارد گرد کے چبوتروں سے شروع ہوا اور ہوتے ہوتے قلعے تک پہنچ گیا۔

And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

یوں داؤد زور پکڑتا گیا، کیونکہ رب الافواج اُس کے ساتھ تھا۔

And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

ایک دن صور کے بادشاہ حیرام نے داؤد کے پاس وفد بھیجا۔ بڑھئی اور راج بھی ساتھ تھے۔ اُن کے پاس دیودار کی لکڑی تھی، اور اُنہوں نے داؤد کے لئے محل بنا دیا۔

And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

یوں داؤد نے جان لیا کہ رب نے مجھے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنا کر میری بادشاہی اپنی قوم اسرائیل کی خاطر سرفراز کر دی ہے۔

And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

حبرون سے یروشلم میں منتقل ہونے کے بعد داؤد نے مزید بیویوں اور داشتاؤں سے شادی کی۔ نتیجے میں یروشلم میں اُس کے کئی بیٹے بیٹیاں پیدا ہوئے۔

And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

جو بیٹے وہاں پیدا ہوئے وہ یہ تھے: سموع، سوباب، ناتن، سلیمان،

Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

اِبحار، اِلی سوع، نفج، یفیع،

And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

اِلی سمع، اِلیَدع اور اِلی فلط۔

But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.

جب فلستیوں کو اطلاع ملی کہ داؤد کو مسح کر کے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنایا گیا ہے تو اُنہوں نے اپنے فوجیوں کو اسرائیل میں بھیج دیا تاکہ اُسے پکڑ لیں۔ لیکن داؤد کو پتا چل گیا، اور اُس نے ایک پہاڑی قلعے میں پناہ لے لی۔

The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

جب فلستی اسرائیل میں پہنچ کر وادیِ رفائیم میں پھیل گئے

And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

تو داؤد نے رب سے دریافت کیا، ”کیا مَیں فلستیوں پر حملہ کروں؟ کیا تُو مجھے اُن پر فتح بخشے گا؟“ رب نے جواب دیا، ”ہاں، اُن پر حملہ کر! مَیں اُنہیں ضرور تیرے قبضے میں کر دوں گا۔“

And David came to Baal–perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal–perazim.

چنانچہ داؤد اپنے فوجیوں کو لے کر بعل پراضیم گیا۔ وہاں اُس نے فلستیوں کو شکست دی۔ بعد میں اُس نے گواہی دی، ”جتنے زور سے بند کے ٹوٹ جانے پر پانی اُس سے پھوٹ نکلتا ہے اُتنے زور سے آج رب میرے دیکھتے دیکھتے دشمن کی صفوں میں سے پھوٹ نکلا ہے۔“ چنانچہ اُس جگہ کا نام بعل پراضیم یعنی ’پھوٹ نکلنے کا مالک‘ پڑ گیا۔

And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

فلستی اپنے بُت چھوڑ کر بھاگ گئے، اور وہ داؤد اور اُس کے آدمیوں کے قبضے میں آ گئے۔

And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

ایک بار پھر فلستی آ کر وادیِ رفائیم میں پھیل گئے۔

And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

جب داؤد نے رب سے دریافت کیا تو اُس نے جواب دیا، ”اِس مرتبہ اُن کا سامنا مت کرنا بلکہ اُن کے پیچھے جا کر بکا کے درختوں کے سامنے اُن پر حملہ کر۔

And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

جب اُن درختوں کی چوٹیوں سے قدموں کی چاپ سنائی دے تو خبردار! یہ اِس کا اشارہ ہو گا کہ رب خود تیرے آگے آگے چل کر فلستیوں کو مارنے کے لئے نکل آیا ہے۔“

And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.

داؤد نے ایسا ہی کیا اور نتیجے میں فلستیوں کو شکست دے کر جِبعون سے لے کر جزر تک اُن کا تعاقب کیا۔
