II Chronicles 20

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

کچھ دیر کے بعد موآبی، عمونی اور کچھ معونی یہوسفط سے جنگ کرنے کے لئے نکلے۔

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon–tamar, which is En–gedi.

ایک قاصد نے آ کر بادشاہ کو اطلاع دی، ”ملکِ ادوم سے ایک بڑی فوج آپ سے لڑنے کے لئے آ رہی ہے۔ وہ بحیرۂ مُردار کے دوسرے کنارے سے بڑھتی بڑھتی اِس وقت حصصون تمر پہنچ چکی ہے“ (حصصون عین جدی کا دوسرا نام ہے)۔

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

یہ سن کر یہوسفط گھبرا گیا۔ اُس نے رب سے راہنمائی مانگنے کا فیصلہ کر کے اعلان کیا کہ تمام یہوداہ روزہ رکھے۔

And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

یہوداہ کے تمام شہروں سے لوگ یروشلم آئے تاکہ مل کر مدد کے لئے رب سے دعا مانگیں۔

And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

وہ رب کے گھر کے نئے صحن میں جمع ہوئے اور یہوسفط نے سامنے آ کر

And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

دعا کی، ”اے رب، ہمارے باپ دادا کے خدا! تُو ہی آسمان پر تخت نشین خدا ہے، اور تُو ہی دنیا کے تمام ممالک پر حکومت کرتا ہے۔ تیرے ہاتھ میں قدرت اور طاقت ہے۔ کوئی بھی تیرا مقابلہ نہیں کر سکتا۔

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

اے ہمارے خدا، تُو نے اِس ملک کے پرانے باشندوں کو اپنی قوم اسرائیل کے آگے سے نکال دیا۔ ابراہیم تیرا دوست تھا، اور اُس کی اولاد کو تُو نے یہ ملک ہمیشہ کے لئے دے دیا۔

And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

اِس میں تیری قوم آباد ہوئی۔ تیرے نام کی تعظیم میں مقدِس بنا کر اُنہوں نے کہا،

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

’جب بھی آفت ہم پر آئے تو ہم یہاں تیرے حضور آ سکیں گے، چاہے جنگ، وبا، کال یا کوئی اَور سزا ہو۔ اگر ہم اُس وقت اِس گھر کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر مدد کے لئے تجھے پکاریں تو تُو ہماری سن کر ہمیں بچائے گا، کیونکہ اِس عمارت پر تیرے ہی نام کا ٹھپا لگا ہے۔‘

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

اب عمون، موآب اور پہاڑی ملک سعیر کی حرکتوں کو دیکھ! جب اسرائیل مصر سے نکلا تو تُو نے اُسے اِن قوموں پر حملہ کرنے اور اِن کے علاقے میں سے گزرنے کی اجازت نہ دی۔ اسرائیل کو متبادل راستہ اختیار کرنا پڑا، کیونکہ اُسے اِنہیں ہلاک کرنے کی اجازت نہ ملی۔

Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

اب دھیان دے کہ یہ بدلے میں کیا کر رہے ہیں۔ یہ ہمیں اُس موروثی زمین سے نکالنا چاہتے ہیں جو تُو نے ہمیں دی تھی۔

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

اے ہمارے خدا، کیا تُو اُن کی عدالت نہیں کرے گا؟ ہم تو اِس بڑی فوج کے مقابلے میں بےبس ہیں۔ اِس کے حملے سے بچنے کا راستہ ہمیں نظر نہیں آتا، لیکن ہماری آنکھیں مدد کے لئے تجھ پر لگی ہیں۔“

And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

یہوداہ کے تمام مرد، عورتیں اور بچے وہاں رب کے حضور کھڑے رہے۔

Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

تب رب کا روح ایک لاوی بنام یحزی ایل پر نازل ہوا جب وہ جماعت کے درمیان کھڑا تھا۔ یہ آدمی آسف کے خاندان کا تھا، اور اُس کا پورا نام یحزی ایل بن زکریاہ بن بِنایاہ بن یعی ایل بن متنیاہ تھا۔

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

اُس نے کہا، ”یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے لوگو، میری بات سنیں! اے بادشاہ، آپ بھی اِس پر دھیان دیں۔ رب فرماتا ہے کہ ڈرو مت، اور اِس بڑی فوج کو دیکھ کر مت گھبرانا۔ کیونکہ یہ جنگ تمہارا نہیں بلکہ میرا معاملہ ہے۔

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

کل اُن کے مقابلے کے لئے نکلو۔ اُس وقت وہ درۂ صیص سے ہو کر تمہاری طرف بڑھ رہے ہوں گے۔ تمہارا اُن سے مقابلہ اُس وادی کے سرے پر ہو گا جہاں یروایل کا ریگستان شروع ہوتا ہے۔

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

لیکن تمہیں لڑنے کی ضرورت نہیں ہو گی۔ بس دشمن کے آمنے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر رُک جاؤ اور دیکھو کہ رب کس طرح تمہیں چھٹکارا دے گا۔ لہٰذا مت ڈرو، اے یہوداہ اور یروشلم، اور دہشت مت کھاؤ۔ کل اُن کا سامنا کرنے کے لئے نکلو، کیونکہ رب تمہارے ساتھ ہو گا۔“

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

یہ سن کر یہوسفط منہ کے بل جھک گیا۔ یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے تمام لوگوں نے بھی اوندھے منہ جھک کر رب کی پرستش کی۔

And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

پھر قِہات اور قورح کے خاندانوں کے کچھ لاوی کھڑے ہو کر بلند آواز سے رب اسرائیل کے خدا کی حمد و ثنا کرنے لگے۔

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

اگلے دن صبح سویرے یہوداہ کی فوج تقوع کے ریگستان کے لئے روانہ ہوئی۔ نکلتے وقت یہوسفط نے اُن کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر کہا، ”یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے مردو، میری بات سنیں! رب اپنے خدا پر بھروسا رکھیں تو آپ قائم رہیں گے۔ اُس کے نبیوں کی باتوں کا یقین کریں تو آپ کو کامیابی حاصل ہو گی۔“

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

لوگوں سے مشورہ کر کے یہوسفط نے کچھ مردوں کو رب کی تعظیم میں گیت گانے کے لئے مقرر کیا۔ مُقدّس لباس پہنے ہوئے وہ فوج کے آگے آگے چل کر حمد و ثنا کا یہ گیت گاتے رہے، ”رب کی ستائش کرو، کیونکہ اُس کی شفقت ابدی ہے۔“

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

اُس وقت رب حملہ آور فوج کے مخالفوں کو کھڑا کر چکا تھا۔ اب جب یہوداہ کے مرد حمد کے گیت گانے لگے تو وہ تاک میں سے نکل کر بڑھتی ہوئی فوج پر ٹوٹ پڑے اور اُسے شکست دی۔

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

پھر عمونیوں اور موآبیوں نے مل کر پہاڑی ملک سعیر کے مردوں پر حملہ کیا تاکہ اُنہیں مکمل طور پر ختم کر دیں۔ جب یہ ہلاک ہوئے تو عمونی اور موآبی ایک دوسرے کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتارنے لگے۔

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

یہوداہ کے فوجیوں کو اِس کا علم نہیں تھا۔ چلتے چلتے وہ اُس مقام تک پہنچ گئے جہاں سے ریگستان نظر آتا ہے۔ وہاں وہ دشمن کو تلاش کرنے لگے، لیکن لاشیں ہی لاشیں زمین پر بکھری نظر آئیں۔ ایک بھی دشمن نہیں بچا تھا۔

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

یہوسفط اور اُس کے لوگوں کے لئے صرف دشمن کو لُوٹنے کا کام باقی رہ گیا تھا۔ کثرت کے جانور، قسم قسم کا سامان، کپڑے اور کئی قیمتی چیزیں تھیں۔ اِتنا سامان تھا کہ وہ اُسے ایک وقت میں اُٹھا کر اپنے ساتھ لے جا نہیں سکتے تھے۔ سارا مال جمع کرنے میں تین دن لگے۔

And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

چوتھے دن وہ قریب کی ایک وادی میں جمع ہوئے تاکہ رب کی تعریف کریں۔ اُس وقت سے وادی کا نام ’تعریف کی وادی‘ پڑ گیا۔

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

اِس کے بعد یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے تمام مرد یہوسفط کی راہنمائی میں خوشی مناتے ہوئے یروشلم واپس آئے۔ کیونکہ رب نے اُنہیں دشمن کی شکست سے خوشی کا سنہرا موقع عطا کیا تھا۔

And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

ستار، سرود اور تُرم بجاتے ہوئے وہ یروشلم میں داخل ہوئے اور رب کے گھر کے پاس جا پہنچے۔

And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

جب ارد گرد کے ممالک نے سنا کہ کس طرح رب اسرائیل کے دشمنوں سے لڑا ہے تو اُن میں اللہ کی دہشت پھیل گئی۔

So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

اُس وقت سے یہوسفط سکون سے حکومت کر سکا، کیونکہ اللہ نے اُسے چاروں طرف کے ممالک کے حملوں سے محفوظ رکھا تھا۔

And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

یہوسفط 35 سال کی عمر میں بادشاہ بنا، اور وہ یروشلم میں رہ کر 25 سال حکومت کرتا رہا۔ اُس کی ماں عزوبہ بنت سِلحی تھی۔

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

وہ اپنے باپ آسا کے نمونے پر چلتا اور وہ کچھ کرتا رہا جو رب کو پسند تھا۔

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

لیکن اُس نے بھی اونچے مقاموں کے مندروں کو ختم نہ کیا، اور لوگوں کے دل اپنے باپ دادا کے خدا کی طرف مائل نہ ہوئے۔

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

باقی جو کچھ یہوسفط کی حکومت کے دوران ہوا وہ شروع سے لے کر آخر تک یاہو بن حنانی کی تاریخ میں بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ بعد میں سب کچھ ’شاہانِ اسرائیل کی تاریخ‘ کی کتاب میں درج کیا گیا۔

And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

بعد میں یہوداہ کے بادشاہ یہوسفط نے اسرائیل کے بادشاہ اخزیاہ سے اتحاد کیا، گو اُس کا رویہ بےدینی کا تھا۔

And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion–geber.

دونوں نے مل کر تجارتی جہازوں کا ایسا بیڑا بنوایا جو ترسیس تک پہنچ سکے۔ جب یہ جہاز بندرگاہ عصیون جابر میں تیار ہوئے

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

تو مریسہ کا رہنے والا اِلی عزر بن دوداواہو نے یہوسفط کے خلاف پیش گوئی کی، ”چونکہ آپ اخزیاہ کے ساتھ متحد ہو گئے ہیں اِس لئے رب آپ کا کام تباہ کر دے گا!“ اور واقعی، یہ جہاز کبھی اپنی منزلِ مقصود ترسیس تک پہنچ نہ سکے، کیونکہ وہ پہلے ہی ٹکڑے ٹکڑے ہو گئے۔
