I Samuel 20

And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?

اب داؤد رامہ کے نیوت سے بھی بھاگ گیا۔ چپکے سے وہ یونتن کے پاس آیا اور پوچھا، ”مجھ سے کیا غلطی ہوئی ہے؟ میرا کیا قصور ہے؟ مجھ سے آپ کے باپ کے خلاف کیا جرم سرزد ہوا ہے کہ وہ مجھے قتل کرنا چاہتے ہیں؟“

And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.

یونتن نے اعتراض کیا، ”یہ کبھی نہیں ہو سکتا! آپ نہیں مریں گے۔ میرا باپ تو مجھے ہمیشہ سب کچھ بتا دیتا ہے، خواہ بات بڑی ہو یا چھوٹی۔ تو پھر وہ ایسا کوئی منصوبہ مجھ سے کیوں چھپائے؟ آپ کی یہ بات سراسر غلط ہے۔“

And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

لیکن داؤد نے قَسم کھا کر اصرار کیا، ”ظاہر ہے کہ آپ کو اِس کے بارے میں علم نہیں۔ آپ کے باپ کو صاف معلوم ہے کہ مَیں آپ کو پسند ہوں۔ وہ تو سوچتے ہوں گے، ’یونتن کو اِس بات کا علم نہ ہو، ورنہ وہ دُکھ محسوس کرے گا۔‘ لیکن رب کی اور آپ کی جان کی قَسم، مَیں بڑے خطرے میں ہوں، اور موت سے بچنا مشکل ہی ہے۔“

Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.

یونتن نے کہا، ”مجھے بتائیں کہ مَیں کیا کروں تو مَیں اُسے کروں گا۔“

And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.

تب داؤد نے اپنا منصوبہ پیش کیا۔ ”کل نئے چاند کی عید ہے، اور بادشاہ توقع کریں گے کہ مَیں اُن کی ضیافت میں شریک ہوں۔ لیکن اِس مرتبہ مجھے پرسوں شام تک باہر کھلے میدان میں چھپا رہنے کی اجازت دیں۔

If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth–lehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

اگر آپ کے باپ میرا پتا کریں تو اُنہیں کہہ دینا، ’داؤد نے بڑے زور سے مجھ سے اپنے شہر بیت لحم کو جانے کی اجازت مانگی۔ اُسے بڑی جلدی تھی، کیونکہ اُس کا پورا خاندان اپنی سالانہ قربانی چڑھانا چاہتا ہے۔‘

If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

اگر آپ کے باپ جواب دیں کہ ٹھیک ہے تو پھر معلوم ہو گا کہ خطرہ ٹل گیا ہے۔ لیکن اگر وہ بڑے غصے میں آ جائیں تو یقین جانیں کہ وہ مجھے نقصان پہنچانے کا ارادہ رکھتے ہیں۔

Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

براہِ کرم مجھ پر مہربانی کر کے یاد رکھیں کہ آپ نے رب کے سامنے اپنے خادم سے عہد باندھا ہے۔ اگر مَیں واقعی قصوروار ٹھہروں تو آپ خود مجھے مار ڈالیں۔ لیکن کسی صورت میں بھی مجھے اپنے باپ کے حوالے نہ کریں۔“

And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

یونتن نے جواب دیا، ”فکر نہ کریں، مَیں کبھی ایسا نہیں کروں گا۔ جب بھی مجھے اشارہ مل جائے کہ میرا باپ آپ کو قتل کرنے کا ارادہ رکھتا ہے تو مَیں ضرور آپ کو فوراً اطلاع دوں گا۔“

Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

داؤد نے پوچھا، ”اگر آپ کے باپ غصے میں جواب دیں تو کون مجھے خبر پہنچائے گا؟“

And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

یونتن نے جواب میں کہا، ”آئیں ہم نکل کر کھلے میدان میں جائیں۔“ دونوں نکلے

And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;

تو یونتن نے داؤد سے کہا، ”رب اسرائیل کے خدا کی قَسم، پرسوں اِس وقت تک مَیں اپنے باپ سے بات معلوم کر لوں گا۔ اگر وہ آپ کے بارے میں اچھی سوچ رکھے اور مَیں آپ کو اطلاع نہ دوں

The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

تو رب مجھے سخت سزا دے۔ لیکن اگر مجھے پتا چلے کہ میرا باپ آپ کو مار دینے پر تُلا ہوا ہے تو مَیں آپ کو اِس کی اطلاع بھی دوں گا۔ اِس صورت میں مَیں آپ کو نہیں روکوں گا بلکہ آپ کو سلامتی سے جانے دوں گا۔ رب اُسی طرح آپ کے ساتھ ہو جس طرح وہ پہلے میرے باپ کے ساتھ تھا۔

And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:

لیکن درخواست ہے کہ میرے جیتے جی مجھ پر رب کی سی مہربانی کریں تاکہ مَیں مر نہ جاؤں۔

But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

میرے خاندان پر بھی ہمیشہ تک مہربانی کریں۔ وہ کبھی بھی آپ کی مہربانی سے محروم نہ ہو جائے، اُس وقت بھی نہیں جب رب نے آپ کے تمام دشمنوں کو رُوئے زمین پر سے مٹا دیا ہو گا۔“

So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.

چنانچہ یونتن نے داؤد سے عہد باندھ کر کہا، ”رب داؤد کے دشمنوں سے بدلہ لے۔“

And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

وہ بولا، ”قَسم کھائیں کہ آپ یہ عہد اُتنے پختہ ارادے سے قائم رکھیں گے جتنی آپ مجھ سے محبت رکھتے ہیں۔“ کیونکہ یونتن داؤد کو اپنی جان کے برابر عزیز رکھتا تھا۔

Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

پھر یونتن نے اپنا منصوبہ پیش کیا۔ ”کل تو نئے چاند کی عید ہے۔ جلدی سے پتا چلے گا کہ آپ نہیں آئے، کیونکہ آپ کی کرسی خالی رہے گی۔

And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.

اِس لئے پرسوں شام کے وقت کھلے میدان میں وہاں چلے جائیں جہاں پہلے چھپ گئے تھے۔ پتھر کے ڈھیر کے قریب بیٹھ جائیں۔

And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.

اُس وقت مَیں گھر سے نکل کر تین تیر پتھر کے ڈھیر کی طرف چلاؤں گا گویا مَیں کسی چیز کو نشانہ بنا کر مشق کر رہا ہوں۔

And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.

پھر مَیں لڑکے کو تیروں کو لے آنے کے لئے بھیج دوں گا۔ اگر مَیں اُسے بتا دوں، ’تیر اُرلی طرف پڑے ہیں، اُنہیں جا کر لے آؤ‘ تو آپ خوف کھائے بغیر چھپنے کی جگہ سے نکل کر میرے پاس آ سکیں گے۔ رب کی حیات کی قَسم، اِس صورت میں کوئی خطرہ نہیں ہو گا۔

But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.

لیکن اگر مَیں لڑکے کو بتا دوں، ’تیر پرلی طرف پڑے ہیں‘ تو آپ کو فوراً ہجرت کرنی پڑے گی۔ اِس صورت میں رب خود آپ کو یہاں سے بھیج رہا ہو گا۔

And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.

لیکن جو باتیں ہم نے آج آپس میں کی ہیں رب خود ہمیشہ تک اِن کا گواہ رہے۔“

So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat.

چنانچہ داؤد کھلے میدان میں چھپ گیا۔ نئے چاند کی عید آئی تو بادشاہ ضیافت کے لئے بیٹھ گیا۔

And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.

معمول کے مطابق وہ دیوار کے پاس بیٹھ گیا۔ ابنیر اُس کے ساتھ بیٹھا تھا اور یونتن اُس کے مقابل۔ لیکن داؤد کی جگہ خالی رہی۔

Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.

اُس دن ساؤل نے بات نہ چھیڑی، کیونکہ اُس نے سوچا، ”داؤد کسی وجہ سے ناپاک ہو گیا ہو گا، اِس لئے نہیں آیا۔“

And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?

لیکن اگلے دن جب داؤد کی جگہ پھر خالی رہی تو ساؤل نے یونتن سے پوچھا، ”یسّی کا بیٹا نہ تو کل، نہ آج ضیافت میں شریک ہوا ہے۔ کیا وجہ ہے؟“

And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth–lehem:

یونتن نے جواب دیا، ”داؤد نے بڑے زور سے مجھ سے بیت لحم جانے کی اجازت مانگی۔

And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table.

اُس نے کہا، ’مہربانی کر کے مجھے جانے دیں، کیونکہ میرا خاندان ایک خاص قربانی چڑھا رہا ہے، اور میرے بھائی نے مجھے آنے کا حکم دیا ہے۔ اگر آپ کو منظور ہو تو براہِ کرم مجھے اپنے بھائیوں کے پاس جانے کی اجازت دیں۔‘ یہی وجہ ہے کہ وہ بادشاہ کی ضیافت میں شریک نہیں ہوا۔“

Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness?

یہ سن کر ساؤل آپے سے باہر ہو گیا۔ وہ گرجا، ”حرام زادے! مجھے خوب معلوم ہے کہ تُو نے داؤد کا ساتھ دیا ہے۔ شرم کی بات ہے، تیرے لئے اور تیری ماں کے لئے۔

For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.

جب تک یسّی کا بیٹا زندہ ہے تب تک نہ تُو اور نہ تیری بادشاہت قائم رہے گی۔ اب جا، اُسے لے آ، کیونکہ اُسے مرنا ہی ہے۔“

And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?

یونتن نے کہا، ”کیوں؟ اُس نے کیا کِیا جو سزائے موت کے لائق ہے؟“

And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.

جواب میں ساؤل نے اپنا نیزہ زور سے یونتن کی طرف پھینک دیا تاکہ اُسے مار ڈالے۔ یہ دیکھ کر یونتن نے جان لیا کہ ساؤل داؤد کو قتل کرنے کا پختہ ارادہ رکھتا ہے۔

So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

بڑے غصے کے عالم میں وہ کھڑا ہوا اور چلا گیا۔ اُس دن اُس نے کھانا کھانے سے انکار کیا۔ اُسے بہت دُکھ تھا کہ میرا باپ داؤد کی اِتنی بےعزتی کر رہا ہے۔

And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.

اگلے دن یونتن صبح کے وقت گھر سے نکل کر کھلے میدان میں اُس جگہ آ گیا جہاں داؤد سے ملنا تھا۔ ایک لڑکا اُس کے ساتھ تھا۔

And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.

اُس نے لڑکے کو حکم دیا، ”چلو، اُس طرف بھاگنا شروع کرو جس طرف مَیں تیروں کو چلاؤں گا تاکہ تجھے معلوم ہو کہ وہ کہاں ہیں۔“ چنانچہ لڑکا دوڑنے لگا، اور یونتن نے تیر اِتنے زور سے چلایا کہ وہ اُس سے آگے کہیں دُور جا گرا۔

And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee?

جب لڑکا تیر کے قریب پہنچ گیا تو یونتن نے آواز دی، ”تیر پرلی طرف ہے۔

And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.

جلدی کرو، بھاگ کر آگے نکلو اور نہ رُکو!“ پھر لڑکا تیر کو اُٹھا کر اپنے مالک کے پاس واپس آ گیا۔

But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

وہ نہیں جانتا تھا کہ اِس کے پیچھے کیا مقصد ہے۔ صرف یونتن اور داؤد کو علم تھا۔

And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city.

پھر یونتن نے کمان اور تیروں کو لڑکے کے سپرد کر کے اُسے حکم دیا، ”جاؤ، سامان لے کر شہر میں واپس چلے جاؤ۔“

And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

لڑکا چلا گیا تو داؤد پتھر کے ڈھیر کے جنوب سے نکل کر یونتن کے پاس آیا۔ تین مرتبہ وہ یونتن کے سامنے منہ کے بل جھک گیا۔ ایک دوسرے کو چوم کر دونوں خوب روئے، خاص کر داؤد۔

And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.

پھر یونتن بولا، ”سلامتی سے جائیں! اور کبھی وہ وعدے نہ بھولیں جو ہم نے رب کی قَسم کھا کر ایک دوسرے سے کئے ہیں۔ یہ عہد آپ کے اور میرے اور آپ کی اور میری اولاد کے درمیان ہمیشہ قائم رہے۔ رب خود ہمارا گواہ ہے۔“ پھر داؤد روانہ ہوا، اور یونتن شہر کو واپس چلا گیا۔
