I Samuel 21

Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

داؤد نوب میں اخی مَلِک امام کے پاس گیا۔ اخی مَلِک کانپتے ہوئے اُس سے ملنے کے لئے آیا اور پوچھا، ”آپ اکیلے کیوں آئے ہیں؟ کوئی آپ کے ساتھ نہیں۔“

And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

داؤد نے جواب دیا، ”بادشاہ نے مجھے ایک خاص ذمہ داری دی ہے جس کا ذکر تک کرنا منع ہے۔ کسی کو بھی اِس کے بارے میں جاننا نہیں چاہئے۔ مَیں نے اپنے آدمیوں کو حکم دیا ہے کہ فلاں فلاں جگہ پر میرا انتظار کریں۔

Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.

اب مجھے ذرا بتائیں کہ کھانے کے لئے کیا مل سکتا ہے؟ مجھے پانچ روٹیاں دے دیں، یا جو کچھ بھی آپ کے پاس ہے۔“

And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

امام نے جواب دیا، ”میرے پاس عام روٹی نہیں ہے۔ مَیں آپ کو صرف رب کے لئے مخصوص شدہ روٹی دے سکتا ہوں۔ شرط یہ ہے کہ آپ کے آدمی پچھلے دنوں میں عورتوں سے ہم بستر نہ ہوئے ہوں۔“

And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

داؤد نے اُسے تسلی دے کر کہا، ”فکر نہ کریں۔ پہلے کی طرح ہمیں اِس مہم کے دوران بھی عورتوں سے دُور رہنا پڑا ہے۔ میرے فوجی عام مہموں کے لئے بھی اپنے آپ کو پاک رکھتے ہیں، تو اِس دفعہ وہ کہیں زیادہ پاک صاف ہیں۔“

So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

پھر امام نے داؤد کو مخصوص شدہ روٹیاں دیں یعنی وہ روٹیاں جو ملاقات کے خیمے میں رب کے حضور رکھی جاتی تھیں اور اُسی دن تازہ روٹیوں سے تبدیل ہوئی تھیں۔

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

اُس وقت ساؤل کے چرواہوں کا ادومی انچارج دوئیگ وہاں تھا۔ وہ کسی مجبوری کے باعث رب کے حضور ٹھہرا ہوا تھا۔ اُس کی موجودگی میں

And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.

داؤد نے اخی مَلِک سے پوچھا، ”کیا آپ کے پاس کوئی نیزہ یا تلوار ہے؟ مجھے بادشاہ کی مہم کے لئے اِتنی جلدی سے نکلنا پڑا کہ اپنی تلوار یا کوئی اَور ہتھیار ساتھ لانے کے لئے فرصت نہ ملی۔“

And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

اخی مَلِک نے جواب دیا، ”جی ہے۔ وادیِ ایلہ میں آپ کے ہاتھوں مارے گئے فلستی مرد جالوت کی تلوار میرے پاس ہے۔ وہ ایک کپڑے میں لپٹی میرے بالاپوش کے پیچھے پڑی ہے۔ اگر آپ اُسے اپنے ساتھ لے جانا چاہیں تو لے جائیں۔ میرے پاس کوئی اَور ہتھیار نہیں ہے۔“ داؤد نے کہا، ”اِس قسم کی تلوار کہیں اَور نہیں ملتی۔ مجھے دے دیں۔“

And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

اُسی دن داؤد آگے نکلا تاکہ ساؤل سے بچ سکے۔ اسرائیل کو چھوڑ کر وہ فلستی شہر جات کے بادشاہ اَکیس کے پاس گیا۔

And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

لیکن اَکیس کے ملازموں نے بادشاہ کو آگاہ کیا، ”کیا یہ ملک کا بادشاہ داؤد نہیں ہے؟ اِسی کے بارے میں اسرائیلی ناچ کر گیت گاتے ہیں، ’ساؤل نے ہزار ہلاک کئے جبکہ داؤد نے دس ہزار‘۔“

And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

یہ سن کر داؤد گھبرا گیا اور جات کے بادشاہ اَکیس سے بہت ڈرنے لگا۔

And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

اچانک وہ پاگل آدمی کا روپ بھر کر اُن کے درمیان عجیب عجیب حرکتیں کرنے لگا۔ شہر کے دروازے کے پاس جا کر اُس نے اُس پر بےتُکے سے نشان لگائے اور اپنی داڑھی پر رال ٹپکنے دی۔

Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

یہ دیکھ کر اَکیس نے اپنے ملازموں کو جھڑکا، ”تم اِس آدمی کو میرے پاس کیوں لے آئے ہو؟ تم خود دیکھ سکتے ہو کہ یہ پاگل ہے۔

Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

کیا میرے پاس پاگلوں کی کمی ہے کہ تم اِس کو میرے سامنے لے آئے ہو تاکہ اِس طرح کی حرکتیں کرے؟ کیا مجھے ایسے مہمان کی ضرورت ہے؟“
