I Samuel 2

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

وہاں حنّہ نے یہ گیت گایا، ”میرا دل رب کی خوشی مناتا ہے، کیونکہ اُس نے مجھے قوت عطا کی ہے۔ میرا منہ دلیری سے اپنے دشمنوں کے خلاف بات کرتا ہے، کیونکہ مَیں تیری نجات کے باعث باغ باغ ہوں۔

There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

رب جیسا قدوس کوئی نہیں ہے، تیرے سوا کوئی نہیں ہے۔ ہمارے خدا جیسی کوئی چٹان نہیں ہے۔

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

ڈینگیں مارنے سے باز آؤ! گستاخ باتیں مت بکو! کیونکہ رب ایسا خدا ہے جو سب کچھ جانتا ہے، وہ تمام اعمال کو تول کر پرکھتا ہے۔

The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

اب بڑوں کی کمانیں ٹوٹ گئی ہیں جبکہ گرنے والے قوت سے کمربستہ ہو گئے ہیں۔

They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

جو پہلے سیر تھے وہ روٹی ملنے کے لئے مزدوری کرتے ہیں جبکہ جو پہلے بھوکے تھے وہ سیر ہو گئے ہیں۔ بےاولاد عورت کے سات بچے پیدا ہوئے ہیں جبکہ وافر بچوں کی ماں مُرجھا رہی ہے۔

The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

رب ایک کو مرنے دیتا اور دوسرے کو زندہ ہونے دیتا ہے۔ وہ ایک کو پاتال میں اُترنے دیتا اور دوسرے کو وہاں سے نکل آنے دیتا ہے۔

The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

رب ہی غریب اور امیر بنا دیتا ہے، وہی زیر کرتا اور وہی سرفراز کرتا ہے۔

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

وہ خاک میں دبے آدمی کو کھڑا کرتا ہے اور راکھ میں لیٹے ضرورت مند کو سرفراز کرتا ہے، پھر اُنہیں رئیسوں کے ساتھ عزت کی کرسی پر بٹھا دیتا ہے۔ کیونکہ دنیا کی بنیادیں رب کی ہیں، اور اُسی نے اُن پر زمین رکھی ہے۔

He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

وہ اپنے وفادار پیروکاروں کے پاؤں محفوظ رکھے گا جبکہ شریر تاریکی میں چپ ہو جائیں گے۔ کیونکہ انسان اپنی طاقت سے کامیاب نہیں ہوتا۔

The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

جو رب سے لڑنے کی جرٲت کریں وہ پاش پاش ہو جائیں گے۔ رب آسمان سے اُن کے خلاف گرج کر دنیا کی انتہا تک سب کی عدالت کرے گا۔ وہ اپنے بادشاہ کو تقویت اور اپنے مسح کئے ہوئے خادم کو قوت عطا کرے گا۔“

And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

پھر اِلقانہ اور حنّہ رامہ میں اپنے گھر واپس چلے گئے۔ لیکن اُن کا بیٹا عیلی امام کے پاس رہا اور مقدِس میں رب کی خدمت کرنے لگا۔

Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

لیکن عیلی کے بیٹے بدمعاش تھے۔ نہ وہ رب کو جانتے تھے،

And the priests' custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

نہ امام کی حیثیت سے اپنے فرائض صحیح طور پر ادا کرتے تھے۔ کیونکہ جب بھی کوئی آدمی اپنی قربانی پیش کر کے رفاقتی کھانے کے لئے گوشت اُبالتا تو عیلی کے بیٹے اپنے نوکر کو وہاں بھیج دیتے۔ یہ نوکر سہ شاخہ کانٹا

And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

دیگ میں ڈال کر گوشت کا ہر وہ ٹکڑا اپنے مالکوں کے پاس لے جاتا جو کانٹے سے لگ جاتا۔ یہی اُن کا تمام اسرائیلیوں کے ساتھ سلوک تھا جو سَیلا میں قربانیاں چڑھانے آتے تھے۔

Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

نہ صرف یہ بلکہ کئی بار نوکر اُس وقت بھی آ جاتا جب جانور کی چربی ابھی قربان گاہ پر جلانی ہوتی تھی۔ پھر وہ تقاضا کرتا، ”مجھے امام کے لئے کچا گوشت دے دو! اُسے اُبلا گوشت منظور نہیں بلکہ صرف کچا گوشت، کیونکہ وہ اُسے بھوننا چاہتا ہے۔“

And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

قربانی پیش کرنے والا اعتراض کرتا، ”پہلے تو رب کے لئے چربی جلانا ہے، اِس کے بعد ہی جو جی چاہے لے لیں۔“ پھر نوکر بدتمیزی کرتا، ”نہیں، اُسے ابھی دے دو، ورنہ مَیں زبردستی لے لوں گا۔“

Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

اِن جوان اماموں کا یہ گناہ رب کی نظر میں نہایت سنگین تھا، کیونکہ وہ رب کی قربانیاں حقیر جانتے تھے۔

But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

لیکن چھوٹا سموایل رب کے حضور خدمت کرتا رہا۔ اُسے بھی دوسرے اماموں کی طرح کتان کا بالاپوش دیا گیا تھا۔

Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

ہر سال جب اُس کی ماں خاوند کے ساتھ قربانی پیش کرنے کے لئے سَیلا آتی تو وہ نیا چوغہ سی کر اُسے دے دیتی۔

And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

اور روانہ ہونے سے پہلے عیلی سموایل کے ماں باپ کو برکت دے کر اِلقانہ سے کہتا، ”حنّہ نے رب سے بچہ مانگ لیا اور جب ملا تو اُسے رب کو واپس کر دیا۔ اب رب آپ کو اِس بچے کی جگہ مزید بچے دے۔“ اِس کے بعد وہ اپنے گھر چلے جاتے۔

And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

اور واقعی، رب نے حنّہ کو مزید تین بیٹے اور دو بیٹیاں عطا کیں۔ یہ بچے گھر میں رہے، لیکن سموایل رب کے حضور خدمت کرتے کرتے جوان ہو گیا۔

Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

عیلی اُس وقت بہت بوڑھا ہو چکا تھا۔ بیٹوں کا تمام اسرائیل کے ساتھ بُرا سلوک اُس کے کانوں تک پہنچ گیا تھا، بلکہ یہ بھی کہ بیٹے اُن عورتوں سے ناجائز تعلقات رکھتے ہیں جو ملاقات کے خیمے کے دروازے پر خدمت کرتی ہیں۔

And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

اُس نے اُنہیں سمجھایا بھی تھا، ”آپ ایسی حرکتیں کیوں کر رہے ہیں؟ مجھے تمام لوگوں سے آپ کے شریر کاموں کی خبریں ملتی رہتی ہیں۔

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD'S people to transgress.

بیٹو، ایسا مت کرنا! جو باتیں آپ کے بارے میں رب کی قوم میں پھیل گئی ہیں وہ اچھی نہیں۔

If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

دیکھیں، اگر انسان کسی دوسرے انسان کا گناہ کرے تو ہو سکتا ہے اللہ دونوں کا درمیانی بن کر قصوروار شخص پر رحم کرے۔ لیکن اگر کوئی رب کا گناہ کرے تو پھر کون اُس کا درمیانی بن کر اُسے بچائے گا؟“ لیکن عیلی کے بیٹوں نے باپ کی نہ سنی، کیونکہ رب کی مرضی تھی کہ اُنہیں سزائے موت مل جائے۔

And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

لیکن سموایل اُن سے فرق تھا۔ جتنا وہ بڑا ہوتا گیا اُتنی اُس کی رب اور انسان کے سامنے قبولیت بڑھتی گئی۔

And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

ایک دن ایک نبی عیلی کے پاس آیا اور کہا، ”رب فرماتا ہے، ’کیا جب تیرا باپ ہارون اور اُس کا گھرانا مصر کے بادشاہ کے غلام تھے تو مَیں نے اپنے آپ کو اُس پر ظاہر نہ کیا؟

And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

گو اسرائیل کے بارہ قبیلے تھے لیکن مَیں نے مقرر کیا کہ اُسی کے گھرانے کے مرد میرے امام بن کر قربان گاہ کے سامنے خدمت کریں، بخور جلائیں اور میرے حضور امام کا بالاپوش پہنیں۔ ساتھ ساتھ مَیں نے اُنہیں قربان گاہ پر جلنے والی قربانیوں کا ایک حصہ ملنے کا حق دے دیا۔

Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

تو پھر تم لوگ ذبح اور غلہ کی وہ قربانیاں حقیر کیوں جانتے ہو جو مجھے ہی پیش کی جاتی ہیں اور جو مَیں نے اپنی سکونت گاہ کے لئے مقرر کی تھیں؟ عیلی، تُو اپنے بیٹوں کا مجھ سے زیادہ احترام کرتا ہے۔ تم تو میری قوم اسرائیل کی ہر قربانی کے بہترین حصے کھا کھا کر موٹے ہو گئے ہو۔‘

Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

چنانچہ رب جو اسرائیل کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ’وعدہ تو مَیں نے کیا تھا کہ لاوی کے قبیلے کا تیرا گھرانا ہمیشہ ہی امام کی خدمت سرانجام دے گا۔ لیکن اب مَیں اعلان کرتا ہوں کہ ایسا کبھی نہیں ہو گا! کیونکہ جو میرا احترام کرتے ہیں اُن کا مَیں احترام کروں گا، لیکن جو مجھے حقیر جانتے ہیں اُنہیں حقیر جانا جائے گا۔

Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

اِس لئے سن! ایسے دن آ رہے ہیں جب مَیں تیری اور تیرے گھرانے کی طاقت یوں توڑ ڈالوں گا کہ گھر کا کوئی بھی بزرگ نہیں پایا جائے گا۔

And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

اور تُو مقدِس میں مصیبت دیکھے گا حالانکہ مَیں اسرائیل کے ساتھ بھلائی کرتا رہوں گا۔ تیرے گھر میں کبھی بھی بزرگ نہیں پایا جائے گا۔

And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

مَیں تم میں سے ہر ایک کو تو اپنی خدمت سے نکال کر ہلاک نہیں کروں گا جب تیری آنکھیں دُھندلی سی پڑ جائیں گی اور تیری جان ہلکان ہو جائے گی۔ لیکن تیری تمام اولاد غیرطبعی موت مرے گی۔

And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

تیرے بیٹے حُفنی اور فینحاس دونوں ایک ہی دن ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔ اِس نشان سے تجھے یقین آئے گا کہ جو کچھ مَیں نے فرمایا ہے وہ سچ ہے۔

And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

تب مَیں اپنے لئے ایک امام کھڑا کروں گا جو وفادار رہے گا۔ جو بھی میرا دل اور میری جان چاہے گی وہی وہ کرے گا۔ مَیں اُس کے گھر کی مضبوط بنیادیں رکھوں گا، اور وہ ہمیشہ تک میرے مسح کئے ہوئے خادم کے حضور آتا جاتا رہے گا۔

And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

اُس وقت تیرے گھر کے بچے ہوئے تمام افراد اُس امام کے سامنے جھک جائیں گے اور پیسے اور روٹی مانگ کر التماس کریں گے، ’مجھے امام کی کوئی نہ کوئی ذمہ داری دیں تاکہ روٹی کا ٹکڑا مل جائے‘۔“
