I Samuel 15

Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

ایک دن سموایل نے ساؤل کے پاس آ کر اُس سے بات کی، ”رب ہی نے مجھے آپ کو مسح کر کے اسرائیل پر مقرر کرنے کا حکم دیا تھا۔ اب رب کا پیغام سن لیں!

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ’مَیں عمالیقیوں کا میری قوم کے ساتھ سلوک نہیں بھول سکتا۔ اُس وقت جب اسرائیلی مصر سے نکل کر کنعان کی طرف سفر کر رہے تھے تو عمالیقیوں نے راستہ بند کر دیا تھا۔

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

اب وقت آ گیا ہے کہ تُو اُن پر حملہ کرے۔ سب کچھ تباہ کر کے میرے حوالے کر دے۔ کچھ بھی بچنے نہ دے، بلکہ تمام مردوں، عورتوں، بچوں شیرخواروں سمیت، گائےبَیلوں، بھیڑبکریوں، اونٹوں اور گدھوں کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتار دے‘۔“

And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

ساؤل نے اپنے فوجیوں کو بُلا کر طلائم میں اُن کا جائزہ لیا۔ کُل 2,00,000 پیادے فوجی تھے، نیز یہوداہ کے 10,000 افراد۔

And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

عمالیقیوں کے شہر کے پاس پہنچ کر ساؤل وادی میں تاک میں بیٹھ گیا۔

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

لیکن پہلے اُس نے قینیوں کو خبر بھیجی، ”عمالیقیوں سے الگ ہو کر اُن کے پاس سے چلے جائیں، ورنہ آپ اُن کے ساتھ ہلاک ہو جائیں گے۔ کیونکہ جب اسرائیلی مصر سے نکل کر ریگستان میں سفر کر رہے تھے تو آپ نے اُن پر مہربانی کی تھی۔“ یہ خبر ملتے ہی قینی عمالیقیوں سے الگ ہو کر چلے گئے۔

And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

تب ساؤل نے عمالیقیوں پر حملہ کر کے اُنہیں حویلہ سے لے کر مصر کی مشرقی سرحد شُور تک شکست دی۔

And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

پوری قوم کو تلوار سے مارا گیا، صرف اُن کا بادشاہ اجاج زندہ پکڑا گیا۔

But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

ساؤل اور اُس کے فوجیوں نے اُسے زندہ چھوڑ دیا۔ اِسی طرح سب سے اچھی بھیڑبکریوں، گائےبَیلوں، موٹے تازے بچھڑوں اور چیدہ بھیڑ کے بچوں کو بھی چھوڑ دیا گیا۔ جو بھی اچھا تھا بچ گیا، کیونکہ اسرائیلیوں کا دل نہیں کرتا تھا کہ تندرست اور موٹے تازے جانوروں کو ہلاک کریں۔ اُنہوں نے صرف اُن تمام کمزور جانوروں کو ختم کیا جن کی قدر و قیمت نہ تھی۔

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

پھر رب سموایل سے ہم کلام ہوا،

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

”مجھے دُکھ ہے کہ مَیں نے ساؤل کو بادشاہ بنا لیا ہے، کیونکہ اُس نے مجھ سے دُور ہو کر میرا حکم نہیں مانا۔“ سموایل کو اِتنا غصہ آیا کہ وہ پوری رات بلند آواز سے رب سے فریاد کرتا رہا۔

And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

اگلے دن وہ اُٹھ کر ساؤل سے ملنے گیا۔ کسی نے اُسے بتایا، ”ساؤل کرمل چلا گیا۔ وہاں اپنے لئے یادگار کھڑا کر کے وہ آگے جِلجال چلا گیا ہے۔“

And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

جب سموایل جِلجال پہنچا تو ساؤل نے کہا، ”مبارک ہو! مَیں نے رب کا حکم پورا کر دیا ہے۔“

And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

سموایل نے پوچھا، ”جانوروں کا یہ شور کہاں سے آ رہا ہے؟ بھیڑبکریاں ممیا رہی اور گائےبَیل ڈکرا رہے ہیں۔“

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

ساؤل نے جواب دیا، ”یہ عمالیقیوں کے ہاں سے لائے گئے ہیں۔ فوجیوں نے سب سے اچھے گائےبَیلوں اور بھیڑبکریوں کو زندہ چھوڑ دیا تاکہ اُنہیں رب آپ کے خدا کے حضور قربان کریں۔ لیکن ہم نے باقی سب کو رب کے حوالے کر کے مار دیا۔“

Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

سموایل بولا، ”خاموش! پہلے وہ بات سن لیں جو رب نے مجھے پچھلی رات فرمائی۔“ ساؤل نے جواب دیا، ”بتائیں۔“

And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

سموایل نے کہا، ”جب آپ تمام قوم کے راہنما بن گئے تو احساسِ کمتری کا شکار تھے۔ توبھی رب نے آپ کو مسح کر کے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنا دیا۔

And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

اور اُس نے آپ کو بھیج کر حکم دیا، ’جا اور عمالیقیوں کو پورے طور پر ہلاک کر کے میرے حوالے کر۔ اُس وقت تک اِن شریر لوگوں سے لڑتا رہ جب تک وہ سب کے سب مٹ نہ جائیں۔‘

Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

اب مجھے بتائیں کہ آپ نے رب کی کیوں نہ سنی؟ آپ لُوٹے ہوئے مال پر کیوں ٹوٹ پڑے؟ یہ تو رب کے نزدیک گناہ ہے۔“

And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

ساؤل نے اعتراض کیا، ”لیکن مَیں نے ضرور رب کی سنی۔ جس مقصد کے لئے رب نے مجھے بھیجا وہ مَیں نے پورا کر دیا ہے، کیونکہ مَیں عمالیق کے بادشاہ اجاج کو گرفتار کر کے یہاں لے آیا اور باقی سب کو موت کے گھاٹ اُتار کر رب کے حوالے کر دیا۔

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

میرے فوجی لُوٹے ہوئے مال میں سے صرف سب سے اچھی بھیڑبکریاں اور گائےبَیل چن کر لے آئے، کیونکہ وہ اُنہیں یہاں جِلجال میں رب آپ کے خدا کے حضور قربان کرنا چاہتے تھے۔“

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

لیکن سموایل نے جواب دیا، ”رب کو کیا بات زیادہ پسند ہے، آپ کی بھسم ہونے والی اور ذبح کی قربانیاں یا یہ کہ آپ اُس کی سنتے ہیں؟ سننا قربانی سے کہیں بہتر اور دھیان دینا مینڈھے کی چربی سے کہیں عمدہ ہے۔

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

سرکشی غیب دانی کے گناہ کے برابر ہے اور غرور بُت پرستی کے گناہ سے کم نہیں ہوتا۔ آپ نے رب کا حکم رد کیا ہے، اِس لئے اُس نے آپ کو رد کر کے بادشاہ کا عُہدہ آپ سے چھین لیا ہے۔“

And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

تب ساؤل نے اقرار کیا، ”مجھ سے گناہ ہوا ہے۔ مَیں نے آپ کی ہدایت اور رب کے حکم کی خلاف ورزی کی ہے۔ مَیں نے لوگوں سے ڈر کر اُن کی بات مان لی۔

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

لیکن اب مہربانی کر کے مجھے معاف کریں اور میرے ساتھ واپس آئیں تاکہ مَیں آپ کی موجودگی میں رب کی پرستش کر سکوں۔“

And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

لیکن سموایل نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں آپ کے ساتھ واپس نہیں چلوں گا۔ آپ نے رب کا کلام رد کیا ہے، اِس لئے رب نے آپ کو رد کر کے بادشاہ کا عُہدہ آپ سے چھین لیا ہے۔“

And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

سموایل مُڑ کر وہاں سے چلنے لگا، لیکن ساؤل نے اُس کے چوغے کا دامن اِتنے زور سے پکڑ لیا کہ وہ پھٹ کر اُس کے ہاتھ میں رہ گیا۔

And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

سموایل بولا، ”جس طرح کپڑا پھٹ کر آپ کے ہاتھ میں رہ گیا بالکل اُسی طرح رب نے آج ہی اسرائیل پر آپ کا اختیار آپ سے چھین کر کسی اَور کو دے دیا ہے، ایسے شخص کو جو آپ سے کہیں بہتر ہے۔

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

جو اسرائیل کی شان و شوکت ہے وہ نہ جھوٹ بولتا، نہ کبھی اپنی سوچ کو بدلتا ہے، کیونکہ وہ انسان نہیں کہ ایک بات کہہ کر بعد میں اُسے بدلے۔“

Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

ساؤل نے دوبارہ منت کی، ”بےشک مَیں نے گناہ کیا ہے۔ لیکن براہِ کرم کم از کم میری قوم کے بزرگوں اور اسرائیل کے سامنے تو میری عزت کریں۔ میرے ساتھ واپس آئیں تاکہ مَیں آپ کی موجودگی میں رب آپ کے خدا کی پرستش کر سکوں۔“

So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

تب سموایل مان گیا اور ساؤل کے ساتھ دوسروں کے پاس واپس آیا۔ ساؤل نے رب کی پرستش کی،

Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

پھر سموایل نے اعلان کیا، ”عمالیق کے بادشاہ اجاج کو میرے پاس لے آؤ!“ اجاج اطمینان سے سموایل کے پاس آیا، کیونکہ اُس نے سوچا، ”بےشک موت کا خطرہ ٹل گیا ہے۔“

And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

لیکن سموایل بولا، ”تیری تلوار سے بےشمار مائیں اپنے بچوں سے محروم ہو گئی ہیں۔ اب تیری ماں بھی بےاولاد ہو جائے گی۔“ یہ کہہ کر سموایل نے وہیں جِلجال میں رب کے حضور اجاج کو تلوار سے ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا۔

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

پھر وہ رامہ واپس چلا گیا، اور ساؤل اپنے گھر گیا جو جِبعہ میں تھا۔

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

اِس کے بعد سموایل جیتے جی ساؤل سے کبھی نہ ملا، کیونکہ وہ ساؤل کا ماتم کرتا رہا۔ لیکن رب کو دُکھ تھا کہ مَیں نے ساؤل کو اسرائیل پر کیوں مقرر کیا۔
