I Samuel 14

Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.

ایک دن یونتن نے اپنے جوان سلاح بردار سے کہا، ”آؤ، ہم پرلی طرف جائیں جہاں فلستی فوج کی چوکی ہے۔“ لیکن اُس نے اپنے باپ کو اطلاع نہ دی۔

And Saul tarried in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;

ساؤل اُس وقت انار کے درخت کے سائے میں بیٹھا تھا جو جِبعہ کے قریب کے مجرون میں تھا۔ 600 مرد اُس کے پاس تھے۔

And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, I–chabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

اخیاہ امام بھی ساتھ تھا جو امام کا بالاپوش پہنے ہوئے تھا۔ اخیاہ یکبود کے بھائی اخی طوب کا بیٹا تھا۔ اُس کا دادا فینحاس اور پردادا عیلی تھا، جو پرانے زمانے میں سَیلا میں رب کا امام تھا۔ کسی کو بھی معلوم نہ تھا کہ یونتن چلا گیا ہے۔

And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

فلستی چوکی تک پہنچنے کے لئے یونتن نے ایک تنگ راستہ اختیار کیا جو دو کڑاڑوں کے درمیان سے گزرتا تھا۔ پہلے کا نام بوصیص تھا، اور وہ شمال میں مِکماس کے مقابل تھا۔ دوسرے کا نام سنہ تھا، اور وہ جنوب میں جِبع کے مقابل تھا۔

The forefront of the one was situate northward over against Michmash, and the other southward over against Gibeah.

فلستی چوکی تک پہنچنے کے لئے یونتن نے ایک تنگ راستہ اختیار کیا جو دو کڑاڑوں کے درمیان سے گزرتا تھا۔ پہلے کا نام بوصیص تھا، اور وہ شمال میں مِکماس کے مقابل تھا۔ دوسرے کا نام سنہ تھا، اور وہ جنوب میں جِبع کے مقابل تھا۔

And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

یونتن نے اپنے جوان سلاح بردار سے کہا، ”آؤ، ہم پرلی طرف جائیں جہاں اِن نامختونوں کی چوکی ہے۔ شاید رب ہماری مدد کرے، کیونکہ اُس کے نزدیک کوئی فرق نہیں کہ ہم زیادہ ہوں یا کم۔“

And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.

اُس کا سلاح بردار بولا، ”جو کچھ آپ ٹھیک سمجھتے ہیں، وہی کریں۔ ضرور جائیں۔ جو کچھ بھی آپ کہیں گے، مَیں حاضر ہوں۔“

Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.

یونتن بولا، ”ٹھیک ہے۔ پھر ہم یوں دشمنوں کی طرف بڑھتے جائیں گے، کہ ہم اُنہیں صاف نظر آئیں۔

If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.

اگر وہ ہمیں دیکھ کر پکاریں، ’رُک جاؤ، ورنہ ہم تمہیں مار دیں گے!‘ تو ہم اپنے منصوبے سے باز آ کر اُن کے پاس نہیں جائیں گے۔

But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.

لیکن اگر وہ پکاریں، ’آؤ، ہمارے پاس آ جاؤ!‘ تو ہم ضرور اُن کے پاس چڑھ جائیں گے۔ کیونکہ یہ اِس کا نشان ہو گا کہ رب اُنہیں ہمارے قبضے میں کر دے گا۔“

And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

چنانچہ وہ چلتے چلتے فلستی چوکی کو نظر آئے۔ فلستی شور مچانے لگے، ”دیکھو، اسرائیلی اپنے چھپنے کے بلوں سے نکل رہے ہیں!“

And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.

چوکی کے فوجیوں نے دونوں کو چیلنج کیا، ”آؤ، ہمارے پاس آؤ تو ہم تمہیں سبق سکھائیں گے۔“ یہ سن کر یونتن نے اپنے سلاح بردار کو آواز دی، ”آؤ، میرے پیچھے چلو! رب نے اُنہیں اسرائیل کے حوالے کر دیا ہے۔“

And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him.

دونوں اپنے ہاتھوں اور پیروں کے بل چڑھتے چڑھتے چوکی تک جا پہنچے۔ جب یونتن آگے آگے چل کر فلستیوں کے پاس پہنچ گیا تو وہ اُس کے سامنے گرتے گئے۔ ساتھ ساتھ سلاح بردار پیچھے سے لوگوں کو مارتا گیا۔

And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

اِس پہلے حملے کے دوران اُنہوں نے تقریباً 20 آدمیوں کو مار ڈالا۔ اُن کی لاشیں آدھ ایکڑ زمین پر بکھری پڑی تھیں۔

And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.

اچانک پوری فوج میں دہشت پھیل گئی، نہ صرف لشکرگاہ بلکہ کھلے میدان میں بھی۔ چوکی کے مرد اور لُوٹنے والے دستے بھی تھرتھرانے لگے۔ ساتھ ساتھ زلزلہ آیا۔ رب نے تمام فلستی فوجیوں کے دلوں میں دہشت پیدا کی۔

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.

ساؤل کے جو پہرے دار جِبعہ سے دشمن کی حرکتوں پر غور کر رہے تھے اُنہوں نے اچانک دیکھا کہ فلستی فوج میں ہل چل مچ گئی ہے، افرا تفری کبھی اِس طرف، کبھی اُس طرف بڑھ رہی ہے۔

Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

ساؤل نے فوراً حکم دیا، ”فوجیوں کو گن کر معلوم کرو کہ کون چلا گیا ہے۔“ معلوم ہوا کہ یونتن اور اُس کا سلاح بردار موجود نہیں ہیں۔

And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.

ساؤل نے اخیاہ کو حکم دیا، ”عہد کا صندوق لے آئیں۔“ کیونکہ وہ اُن دنوں میں اسرائیلی کیمپ میں تھا۔

And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.

لیکن ساؤل ابھی اخیاہ سے بات کر رہا تھا کہ فلستی لشکرگاہ میں ہنگامہ اور شور بہت زیادہ بڑھ گیا۔ ساؤل نے امام سے کہا، ”کوئی بات نہیں، رہنے دیں۔“

And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.

وہ اپنے 600 افراد کو لے کر فوراً دشمن پر ٹوٹ پڑا۔ جب اُن تک پہنچ گئے تو معلوم ہوا کہ فلستی ایک دوسرے کو قتل کر رہے ہیں، اور ہر طرف ہنگامہ ہی ہنگامہ ہے۔

Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.

فلستیوں نے کافی اسرائیلیوں کو اپنی فوج میں شامل کر لیا تھا۔ اب یہ لوگ فلستیوں کو چھوڑ کر ساؤل اور یونتن کے پیچھے ہو لئے۔

Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.

اِن کے علاوہ جو اسرائیلی افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے میں اِدھر اُدھر چھپ گئے تھے، جب اُنہیں خبر ملی کہ فلستی بھاگ رہے ہیں تو وہ بھی اُن کا تعاقب کرنے لگے۔

So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Beth–aven.

لڑتے لڑتے میدانِ جنگ بیت آون تک پھیل گیا۔ اِس طرح رب نے اُس دن اسرائیلیوں کو بچا لیا۔

And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

اُس دن اسرائیلی سخت لڑائی کے باعث بڑی مصیبت میں تھے۔ اِس لئے ساؤل نے قَسم کھا کر کہا، ”اُس پر لعنت جو شام سے پہلے کھانا کھائے۔ پہلے مَیں اپنے دشمن سے انتقام لوں گا، پھر ہی سب کھا پی سکتے ہیں۔“ اِس وجہ سے کسی نے روٹی کو ہاتھ تک نہ لگایا۔

And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.

پوری فوج جنگل میں داخل ہوئی تو وہاں زمین پر شہد کے چھتے تھے۔

And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.

تمام لوگ جب اُن کے پاس سے گزرے تو دیکھا کہ اُن سے شہد ٹپک رہا ہے۔ لیکن کسی نے تھوڑا بھی لے کر کھانے کی جرٲت نہ کی، کیونکہ سب ساؤل کی لعنت سے ڈرتے تھے۔

But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.

یونتن کو لعنت کا علم نہ تھا، اِس لئے اُس نے اپنی لاٹھی کا سرا کسی چھتے میں ڈال کر اُسے چاٹ لیا۔ اُس کی آنکھیں فوراً چمک اُٹھیں، اور وہ تازہ دم ہو گیا۔

Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint.

کسی نے دیکھ کر یونتن کو بتایا، ”آپ کے باپ نے فوج سے قَسم کھلا کر اعلان کیا ہے کہ اُس پر لعنت جو اِس دن کچھ کھائے۔ اِسی وجہ سے ہم سب اِتنے نڈھال ہو گئے ہیں۔“

Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

یونتن نے جواب دیا، ”میرے باپ نے ملک کو مصیبت میں ڈال دیا ہے! دیکھو، اِس تھوڑے سے شہد کو چکھنے سے میری آنکھیں کتنی چمک اُٹھیں اور مَیں کتنا تازہ دم ہو گیا۔

How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?

بہتر ہوتا کہ ہمارے لوگ دشمن سے لُوٹے ہوئے مال میں سے کچھ نہ کچھ کھا لیتے۔ لیکن اِس حالت میں ہم فلستیوں کو کس طرح زیادہ نقصان پہنچا سکتے ہیں؟“

And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.

اُس دن اسرائیلی فلستیوں کو مِکماس سے مار مار کر ایالون تک پہنچ گئے۔ لیکن شام کے وقت وہ نہایت نڈھال ہو گئے تھے۔

And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.

پھر وہ لُوٹے ہوئے ریوڑوں پر ٹوٹ پڑے۔ اُنہوں نے جلدی جلدی بھیڑبکریوں، گائےبَیلوں اور بچھڑوں کو ذبح کیا۔ بھوک کی شدت کی وجہ سے اُنہوں نے خون کو صحیح طور سے نکلنے نہ دیا بلکہ جانوروں کو زمین پر چھوڑ کر گوشت کو خون سمیت کھانے لگے۔

Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.

کسی نے ساؤل کو اطلاع دی، ”دیکھیں، لوگ رب کا گناہ کر رہے ہیں، کیونکہ وہ گوشت کھا رہے ہیں جس میں اب تک خون ہے۔“ یہ سن کر ساؤل پکار اُٹھا، ”آپ رب سے وفادار نہیں رہے!“ پھر اُس نے ساتھ والے آدمیوں کو حکم دیا، ”کوئی بڑا پتھر لُڑھکا کر اِدھر لے آئیں!

And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.

پھر تمام آدمیوں کے پاس جا کر اُنہیں بتا دینا، ’اپنے جانوروں کو میرے پاس لے آئیں تاکہ اُنہیں پتھر پر ذبح کر کے کھائیں۔ ورنہ آپ خون آلودہ گوشت کھا کر رب کا گناہ کریں گے‘۔“ سب مان گئے۔ اُس شام وہ ساؤل کے پاس آئے اور اپنے جانوروں کو پتھر پر ذبح کیا۔

And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.

وہاں ساؤل نے پہلی دفعہ رب کی تعظیم میں قربان گاہ بنائی۔

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

پھر اُس نے اعلان کیا، ”آئیں، ہم ابھی اِسی رات فلستیوں کا تعاقب کر کے اُن میں لُوٹ مار کا سلسلہ جاری رکھیں تاکہ ایک بھی نہ بچے۔“ فوجیوں نے جواب دیا، ”ٹھیک ہے، وہ کچھ کریں جو آپ کو مناسب لگے۔“ لیکن امام بولا، ”پہلے ہم اللہ سے ہدایت لیں۔“

And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.

چنانچہ ساؤل نے اللہ سے پوچھا، ”کیا ہم فلستیوں کا تعاقب جاری رکھیں؟ کیا تُو اُنہیں اسرائیل کے حوالے کر دے گا؟“ لیکن اِس مرتبہ اللہ نے جواب نہ دیا۔

And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.

یہ دیکھ کر ساؤل نے فوج کے تمام راہنماؤں کو بُلا کر کہا، ”کسی نے گناہ کیا ہے۔ معلوم کرنے کی کوشش کریں کہ کون قصوروار ہے۔

For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

رب کی حیات کی قَسم جو اسرائیل کا نجات دہندہ ہے، قصوروار کو فوراً سزائے موت دی جائے گی، خواہ وہ میرا بیٹا یونتن کیوں نہ ہو۔“ لیکن سب خاموش رہے۔

Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.

تب ساؤل نے دوبارہ اعلان کیا، ”پوری فوج ایک طرف کھڑی ہو جائے اور یونتن اور مَیں دوسری طرف۔“ لوگوں نے جواب دیا، ”جو آپ کو مناسب لگے وہ کریں۔“

Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.

پھر ساؤل نے رب اسرائیل کے خدا سے دعا کی، ”اے رب، ہمیں دکھا کہ کون قصوروار ہے!“ جب قرعہ ڈالا گیا تو یونتن اور ساؤل کے گروہ کو قصوروار قرار دیا گیا اور باقی فوج کو بےقصور۔

And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

پھر ساؤل نے حکم دیا، ”اب قرعہ ڈال کر پتا کریں کہ مَیں قصوروار ہوں یا یونتن۔“ جب قرعہ ڈالا گیا تو یونتن قصوروار ٹھہرا۔

Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.

ساؤل نے پوچھا، ”بتائیں، آپ نے کیا کِیا؟“ یونتن نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں نے صرف تھوڑا سا شہد چکھ لیا جو میری لاٹھی کے سرے پر لگا تھا۔ لیکن مَیں مرنے کے لئے تیار ہوں۔“

And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.

ساؤل نے کہا، ”یونتن، اللہ مجھے سخت سزا دے اگر مَیں آپ کو اِس کے لئے سزائے موت نہ دوں۔“

And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.

لیکن فوجیوں نے اعتراض کیا، ”یہ کیسی بات ہے؟ یونتن ہی نے اپنے زبردست حملے سے اسرائیل کو آج بچا لیا ہے۔ اُسے کس طرح سزائے موت دی جا سکتی ہے؟ کبھی نہیں! اللہ کی حیات کی قَسم، اُس کا ایک بال بھی بیکا نہیں ہو گا، کیونکہ آج اُس نے اللہ کی مدد سے فتح پائی ہے۔“ یوں فوجیوں نے یونتن کو موت سے بچا لیا۔

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.

تب ساؤل نے فلستیوں کا تعاقب کرنا چھوڑ دیا اور اپنے گھر چلا گیا۔ فلستی بھی اپنے ملک میں واپس چلے گئے۔

So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.

جب ساؤل تخت نشین ہوا تو وہ ملک کے ارد گرد کے تمام دشمنوں سے لڑا۔ اِن میں موآب، عمون، ادوم، ضوباہ کے بادشاہ اور فلستی شامل تھے۔ اور جہاں بھی جنگ چھڑی وہاں اُس نے فتح پائی۔

And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

وہ نہایت بہادر تھا۔ اُس نے عمالیقیوں کو بھی شکست دی اور یوں اسرائیل کو اُن تمام دشمنوں سے بچا لیا جو بار بار ملک کی لُوٹ مار کرتے تھے۔

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi–shua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

ساؤل کے تین بیٹے تھے، یونتن، اِسوی اور ملکی شوع۔ اُس کی بڑی بیٹی میرب اور چھوٹی بیٹی میکل تھی۔

And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

بیوی کا نام اخی نوعم بنت اخی معض تھا۔ ساؤل کی فوج کا کمانڈر ابنیر تھا، جو ساؤل کے چچا نیر کا بیٹا تھا۔

And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

ساؤل کا باپ قیس اور ابنیر کا باپ نیر سگے بھائی تھے جن کا باپ ابی ایل تھا۔

And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any strong man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.

ساؤل کے جیتے جی فلستیوں سے سخت جنگ جاری رہی۔ اِس لئے جب بھی کوئی بہادر اور لڑنے کے قابل آدمی نظر آیا تو ساؤل نے اُسے اپنی فوج میں بھرتی کر لیا۔
