Hebrews 11

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

İman, umut edilenlere güvenmek, görünmeyen şeylerin varlığından emin olmaktır.

For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Atalarımız bununla Tanrı’nın beğenisini kazandılar.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

[] Evrenin Tanrı’nın buyruğuyla yaratıldığını, böylece görülenlerin görünmeyenlerden oluştuğunu iman sayesinde anlıyoruz.

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

[] Habil’in Tanrı’ya Kayin’den daha iyi bir kurban sunması iman sayesinde oldu. İmanı sayesinde doğru biri olarak Tanrı’nın beğenisini kazandı. Çünkü Tanrı onun sunduğu adakları kabul etti. Nitekim Habil ölmüş olduğu halde, iman sayesinde hâlâ konuşmaktadır.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

[] İman sayesinde Hanok ölümü tatmamak üzere yukarı alındı. Kimse onu bulamadı, çünkü Tanrı onu yukarı almıştı. Yukarı alınmadan önce Tanrı’yı hoşnut eden biri olduğuna tanıklık edildi.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

İman olmadan Tanrı’yı hoşnut etmek olanaksızdır. Tanrı’ya yaklaşan, O’nun var olduğuna ve kendisini arayanları ödüllendireceğine iman etmelidir.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

[] İman sayesinde Nuh, henüz olmamış olaylarla ilgili olarak Tanrı tarafından uyarılınca, Tanrı korkusuyla ev halkının kurtuluşu için bir gemi yaptı. Bununla dünyayı yargıladı ve imana dayanan doğruluğun mirasçısı oldu.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

[] İman sayesinde İbrahim miras alacağı yere gitmesi için çağrılınca, Tanrı’nın sözünü dinledi ve nereye gideceğini bilmeden yola çıktı.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

[] İman sayesinde bir yabancı olarak vaat edilen ülkeye yerleşti. Aynı vaadin ortak mirasçıları olan İshak ve Yakup’la birlikte çadırlarda yaşadı.

For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Çünkü mimarı ve kurucusu Tanrı olan temelli kenti bekliyordu.

Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

[] İbrahim, yaşı geçmiş ve karısı Sara kısır olduğu halde, imanı sayesinde vaat edeni güvenilir saydığından çocuk sahibi olmak için güç buldu.

Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

[] Böylece tek bir adamdan, üstelik ölüden farksız birinden gökteki yıldızlar, deniz kıyısındaki kum kadar sayısız torun meydana geldi.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

[] Bu kişilerin hepsi imanlı olarak öldüler. Vaat edilenlere kavuşamadılarsa da bunları uzaktan görüp selamladılar, yeryüzünde yabancı ve konuk olduklarını açıkça kabul ettiler.

For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

Böyle konuşanlar bir vatan aradıklarını gösteriyorlar.

And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

Ayrıldıkları ülkeyi düşünselerdi, geri dönmeye fırsatları olurdu.

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Ama onlar daha iyisini, yani göksel olanı arzu ediyorlardı. Bunun içindir ki, Tanrı onların Tanrısı olarak anılmaktan utanmıyor. Çünkü onlara bir kent hazırladı.

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

[] İbrahim sınandığı zaman imanla İshak’ı kurban olarak sundu. Vaatleri almış olan İbrahim biricik oğlunu kurban etmek üzereydi.

Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

[] Oysa Tanrı ona, “Senin soyun İshak’la sürecek” demişti.

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

İbrahim Tanrı’nın ölüleri bile diriltebileceğini düşündü; nitekim İshak’ı simgesel şekilde ölümden geri aldı.

By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

[] İman sayesinde İshak gelecek olaylarla ilgili olarak Yakup’la Esav’ı kutsadı.

By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

[] Yakup ölürken iman sayesinde Yusuf’un iki oğlunu da kutsadı, değneğinin ucuna yaslanarak Tanrı’ya tapındı.

By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

[] Yusuf ölürken iman sayesinde İsrailoğulları’nın Mısır’dan çıkacağını anımsattı ve kemiklerine ilişkin buyruk verdi.

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

[] Musa doğduğunda annesiyle babası onu imanla üç ay gizlediler. Çünkü çocuğun güzel olduğunu gördüler ve kralın fermanından korkmadılar.

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

[] Musa büyüyünce iman sayesinde firavunun kızının oğlu olarak tanınmayı reddetti.

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

Bir süre için günahın sefasını sürmektense, Tanrı’nın halkıyla birlikte baskı görmeyi yeğledi.

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

Mesih uğruna aşağılanmayı Mısır hazinelerinden daha büyük zenginlik saydı. Çünkü alacağı ödülü düşünüyordu.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

[] Kralın öfkesinden korkmadan imanla Mısır’dan ayrıldı. Görünmez Olan’ı görür gibi dayandı.

Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

[] İlk doğanları öldüren melek İsrailliler’e dokunmasın diye Musa imanla, Fısıh kurbanının kesilmesini ve kanının kapılara sürülmesini sağladı.

By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

[] İman sayesinde İsrailliler karadan geçer gibi Kamış Denizi’nden geçtiler. Mısırlılar bunu deneyince boğuldular.

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

[] İsrailliler yedi gün boyunca Eriha surları çevresinde dolandılar; sonunda imanları sayesinde surlar yıkıldı.

By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

Fahişe Rahav casusları dostça karşıladığı için imanı sayesinde söz dinlemeyenlerle birlikte öldürülmedi.

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

[] [] [] [] [] [] Daha ne diyeyim? Gidyon, Barak, Şimşon, Yiftah, Davut, Samuel ve peygamberlerle ilgili olanları anlatsam, zaman yetmeyecek.

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

[] Bunlar iman sayesinde ülkeler ele geçirdiler, adaleti sağladılar, vaat edilenlere kavuştular, aslanların ağzını kapadılar.

Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

[] Kızgın ateşi söndürdüler, kılıcın ağzından kaçıp kurtuldular. Güçsüzlükte kuvvet buldular, savaşta güçlendiler, yabancı orduları bozguna uğrattılar.

Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

[] Kadınlar dirilen ölülerini geri aldılar. Başkalarıysa salıverilmeyi reddederek dirilip daha iyi bir yaşama kavuşma umuduyla işkencelere katlandılar.

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

[] Daha başkaları alaya alınıp kamçılandı, hatta zincire vurulup hapsedildi.

They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

[] Taşlandılar, testereyle biçildiler, kılıçtan geçirilip öldürüldüler. Koyun postu, keçi derisi içinde dolaştılar, yoksulluk çektiler, sıkıntılara uğradılar, baskı gördüler.

(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Dünya onlara layık değildi. Çöllerde, dağlarda, mağaralarda, yeraltı oyuklarında dolanıp durdular.

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

İmanları sayesinde bunların hepsi Tanrı’nın beğenisini kazandıkları halde, hiçbiri vaat edilene kavuşmadı.

God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Bizden ayrı olarak yetkinliğe ermesinler diye, Tanrı bizim için daha iyi bir şey hazırlamıştı.
