Jeremiah 5

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

 Gån omkring på gatorna i Jerusalem,      och sen till och given akt;  söken på dess torg      om I finnen någon,  om där är någon som gör rätt      och beflitar sig om sanning;  då vill jag förlåta staden.1 Mos. 18,23 f.

And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

 Men säga de än: »Så sant HERREN lever»,      så svärja de dock falskt.

O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

 HERRE, är det ej sanning dina ögon söka?  Du slog dem,      men de kände ingen sveda.  Du förgjorde dem,      men de ville ej taga emot tuktan.  De gjorde sina pannor hårdare än sten,      de ville icke omvända sig.Jes. 1,5. 9,13. Jer. 2,30. 17,23.

Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

 Då tänkte jag:  »Detta är allenast de ringa i folket;      de äro dåraktiga,  ty de känna icke HERRENS väg,      sin Guds rätt.

I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

 Jag vill nu gå till de stora      och tala med dem;  de måste ju känna HERRENS väg,      sin Guds rätt.»  Men ock dessa hade alla brutit sönder oket      och slitit av banden.Ps. 2,8.

Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

 Därför bliva de slagna av lejonet från skogen  och fördärvade av vargen från hedmarken;  pantern lurar vid deras städer,  och envar som vågar sig ut därifrån bliver ihjälriven.  Ty många äro deras överträdelser  och talrika deras avfällighetssynder.Jer. 4,7. Hos. 13,7.

How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

Huru skulle jag då kunna förlåta dig? Dina barn hava ju övergivit mig och svurit vid gudar som icke äro gudar. Jag gav dem allt till fyllest, men de blevo mig otrogna och samlade sig i skaror till skökohuset.

They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

De likna välfödda, ystra hästar; de vrenskas var och en efter sin nästas hustru.Hes. 22,10.

Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

Skulle jag icke för sådant hemsöka dem? säger HERREN. Och skulle icke min själ hämnas på ett sådant folk som detta är?Jer. 9,9.

Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD'S.

Stormen då hennes murar och för stören dem, dock utan att alldeles göra ände på henne. Riven bort hennes vinrankor, de äro ju icke HERRENS.Jer. 2,21.

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

Ty både Israels hus och Juda hus hava varit mycket trolösa mot mig, säger HERREN.

They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

De hava förnekat HERREN och sagt: »Han betyder intet. Olycka skall icke komma över oss, svärd och hunger skola vi icke se.5 Mos. 29,19. Jes. 28,15.

And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

Men profeterna skola försvinna såsom en vind, och han som säges tala är icke i dem; dem själva skall det så gå.»

Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Därför säger HERREN, härskarornas Gud: Eftersom I fören ett sådant tal, se, därför skall jag göra mina ord i din mun till en eld, och detta folk till ved, och elden skall förtära dem.

Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

Se, jag skall låta komma över eder, I av Israels hus, ett folk ifrån fjärran land, säger HERREN, ett starkt folk, ett urgammalt folk, ett folk vars tungomål du icke känner, och vars tal du icke förstår.5 Mos. 28,49 f. Jes. 5,26 f. Jer. 1,15. 6,1, 22.

Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

Deras koger är en öppen grav; de äro allasammans hjältar.

And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

De skola förtära din skörd och ditt bröd, de skola förtära dina söner och döttrar, de skola förtära dina får och fäkreatur, de skola förtära dina vinträd och fikonträd. Dina befästa städer, som du förlitar dig på, dem skola de förstöra med svärd.3 Mos. 26,16. 5 Mos. 28,31 f.

Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.

Dock vill jag på den tiden, säger HERREN, icke alldeles göra ände på eder.Jer. 4,27.

And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

Och om I då frågen: »Varför har HERREN, vår Gud, gjort oss allt detta?», så skall du svara dem: »Såsom I haven övergivit mig och tjänat främmande gudar i edert eget land, så skolen I nu få tjäna främlingar i ett land som icke är edert.»5 Mos. 29,24 f. Jer. 16,10 f.

Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

Förkunnen detta i Jakobs hus, kungören det i Juda och sägen:

Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

Hör detta, du dåraktiga och oförståndiga folk, I som haven ögon, men icke sen, I som haven öron, men icke hören.Jes. 6,9 f. 42,18 f.

Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

Skullen I icke frukta mig, säger HERREN, skullen I icke bäva för mig, for mig som har satt stranden till en damm for havet, till en evärdlig gräns, som det icke kan överskrida, så att dess böljor, huru de än svalla, ändå intet förmå, och huru de än brusa, likväl icke kunna överskrida den?Job 26,10. 38,8 f. Ps. 104,9.

But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

Men detta folk har ett gensträvigt och upproriskt hjärta; de hava avfallit och gått sin väg.

Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

De sade icke i sina hjärtan: »Låtom oss frukta HERREN, vår Gud, honom som giver regn i rätt tid, både höst och vår, och som ständigt beskär oss de bestämda skördeveckorna.»5 Mos. 11,14. Apg. 14,17.

Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

Edra missgärningar hava nu fört dessa i olag, och edra synder hava förhållit för eder detta goda.

For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

Ty bland mitt folk finnas ogudaktiga människor: de ligga i försåt, likasom fågelfängaren ligger på lur, de sätta ut giller till att fånga människor.

As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

Såsom när en bur är full av fåglar, så äro deras hus fulla av svek. Därigenom hava de blivit så stora och rika; de hava blivit feta och skinande.

They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

För sina ogärningar veta de icke av någon gräns, de hålla icke rätten vid makt, icke den faderlöses rätt, till att främja den; och i den fattiges sak fälla de icke rätt dom.Jes. 1,23. Sak. 7,10.

Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

Skulle jag icke för sådant hemsöka dem? säger HERREN. Skulle icke min själ hämnas på ett sådant folk som detta är?

A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

Förfärliga och gruvliga ting ske i landet.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

Profeterna profetera lögn, och prästerna styra efter deras råd; och mitt folk vill så hava det. Men vad skolen I göra, när änden på detta kommer?Jes. 10,3. Jer. 23,25 f. Hes. 13,6. Matt. 23,1 f.
