Psalms 8

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Herre, vår Herre, hvor herlig ditt navn er over all jorden, du som har utbredt din prakt over himmelen!

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

Av barns og diebarns munn har du grunnfestet en makt for dine motstanderes skyld, for å stoppe munnen på fienden og den hevngjerrige.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Når jeg ser din himmel, dine fingrers gjerning, månen og stjernene, som du har gjort,

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

hvad er da et menneske, at du kommer ham i hu, og et menneskebarn, at du ser til ham!

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

Og du gjorde ham lite ringere enn Gud, og med ære og herlighet kronte du ham.

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

Du gjorde ham til hersker over dine henders gjerninger, alt la du under hans føtter,

The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

får og okser, alle tilsammen, ja også markens dyr,

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

himmelens fugler og havets fisker, alt som ferdes på havenes stier. Herre, vår Herre, hvor herlig ditt navn er over all jorden!
