Psalms 48

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

Canto. Salmo de’ figliuoli di Core. Grande è l’Eterno e lodato altamente nella città dell’Iddio nostro, sul monte della sua santità.

Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Bello si erge, gioia di tutta la terra, il monte di Sion, dalle parti del settentrione, bella è la città del gran re.

God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

Nei palazzi d’essa Dio s’è fatto conoscere come un’alta fortezza.

For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.

Poiché ecco, i re s’erano adunati, si avanzavano assieme.

They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.

Appena la videro, rimasero attoniti, smarriti, si misero in fuga,

Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

un tremore li colse quivi, una doglia come di donna che partorisce.

Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

Col vento orientale tu spezzi le navi di Tarsis.

As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.

Quel che avevamo udito l’abbiamo veduto nella città dell’Eterno degli eserciti, nella città del nostro Dio. Dio la renderà stabile in perpetuo. Sela.

We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

O Dio, noi abbiam meditato sulla tua benignità dentro al tuo tempio.

According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

O Dio, qual è il tuo nome, tale è la tua lode fino all’estremità della terra; la tua destra è piena di giustizia.

Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

Si rallegri il monte di Sion, festeggino le figliuole di Giuda per i tuoi giudizi!

Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.

Circuite Sion, giratele attorno, contatene le torri,

Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

osservatene i bastioni, considerate i suoi palazzi, onde possiate parlarne alla futura generazione.

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Poiché questo Dio è il nostro Dio in sempiterno; egli sarà la nostra guida fino alla morte.
