II Chronicles 6

Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

Allora Salomone disse: "L’Eterno ha dichiarato che abiterebbe nella oscurità!

But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

E io t’ho costruito una casa per tua abitazione, un luogo ove tu dimorerai in perpetuo!"

And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

Poi il re voltò la faccia, e benedisse tutta la raunanza d’Israele; e tutta la raunanza d’Israele stava in piedi.

And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

E disse: "Benedetto sia l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, il quale di sua propria bocca parlò a Davide mio padre, e con la sua potenza ha adempito quel che avea dichiarato dicendo:

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

Dal giorno che trassi il mio popolo d’Israele dal paese d’Egitto, io non scelsi alcuna città, fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, per edificarvi una casa, ove il mio nome dimorasse; e non scelsi alcun uomo perché fosse principe del mio popolo d’Israele;

But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

ma ho scelto Gerusalemme perché il mio nome vi dimori, e ho scelto Davide per regnare sul mio popolo d’Israele.

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

Or Davide, mio padre, ebbe in cuore di costruire una casa al nome dell’Eterno, dell’Iddio d’Israele;

But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

ma l’Eterno disse a Davide mio padre: Quanto all’aver tu avuto in cuore di costruire una casa al mio nome, hai fatto bene ad aver questo in cuore;

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

però, non sarai tu che edificherai la casa; ma il tuo figliuolo che uscirà dalle tue viscere, sarà quegli che costruirà la casa al mio nome.

The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

E l’Eterno ha adempita la parola che avea pronunziata; ed io son sorto in luogo di Davide mio padre, e mi sono assiso sul trono d’Israele, come l’Eterno aveva annunziato, ed ho costruita la casa al nome dell’Eterno, dell’Iddio d’Israele.

And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.

E quivi ho posto l’arca nella quale è il patto dell’Eterno: il patto ch’egli fermò coi figliuoli d’Israele".

And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

Poi Salomone si pose davanti all’altare dell’Eterno, in presenza di tutta la raunanza d’Israele, e stese le sue mani.

For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,

Egli, infatti, avea fatto costruire una tribuna di rame, lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque cubiti e alta tre cubiti, e l’avea posta in mezzo al cortile; egli vi salì, si mise in ginocchio in presenza di tutta la raunanza d’Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo, e disse:

And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

"O Eterno, Dio d’Israele! Non v’è Dio che sia simile a te, né in cielo né in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano in tua presenza con tutto il cuor loro.

Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

Tu hai mantenuta la promessa da te fatta al tuo servo Davide, mio padre; e ciò che dichiarasti con la tua propria bocca, la tua mano oggi l’adempie.

Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

Ora dunque, o Eterno, Dio d’Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, la promessa che gli facesti, dicendo: Non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che segga nel mio cospetto sul trono d’Israele, purché i tuoi figliuoli veglino sulla loro condotta, e camminino secondo la mia legge, come tu hai camminato in mia presenza.

Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

Ora dunque, o Eterno, Dio d’Israele, s’avveri la parola che dicesti al tuo servo Davide!

But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

Ma è egli proprio vero che Dio abiti cogli uomini sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli de’ cieli non ti posson contenere; quanto meno questa casa che io ho costruita!

Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

Nondimeno, o Eterno, Dio mio, abbi riguardo alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplicazione, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo ti rivolge.

That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

Siano gli occhi tuoi giorno e notte aperti su questa casa, sul luogo nel quale dicesti di voler mettere il tuo nome! Ascolta la preghiera che il tuo servo farà, rivolto a questo luogo!

Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

Ascolta le supplicazioni del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno, rivolti a questo luogo; ascoltali dal luogo della tua dimora, dai cieli; ascolta e perdona!

If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

Quand’uno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo e si esigerà da lui il giuramento per costringerlo a giurare, se quegli viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questa casa,

Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

tu ascoltalo dal cielo, agisci e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole, facendo ricadere sul suo capo i suoi atti, e dichiara giusto l’innocente, trattandolo secondo la sua giustizia.

And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto dal nemico per aver peccato contro di te, se torna a te, se da gloria al tuo nome e ti rivolge preghiere e supplicazioni in questa casa, tu esaudiscilo dal cielo,

Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

perdona al tuo popolo d’Israele il suo peccato, e riconducilo nel paese che desti a lui ed ai suoi padri.

When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà più pioggia a motivo dei loro peccati contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se dànno gloria al tuo nome e si convertono dai loro peccati perché li avrai afflitti,

Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

tu esaudiscili dal cielo, perdona il loro peccato ai tuoi servi al tuo popolo d’Israele, ai quali avrai mostrato la buona strada per cui debbon camminare; e manda la pioggia sulla terra, che hai data come eredità al tuo popolo.

If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

Quando il paese sarà invaso dalla carestia o dalla peste, dalla ruggine o dal carbone, dalle locuste o dai bruci, quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nel suo paese, nelle sue città, quando scoppierà qualsivoglia flagello o epidemia, ogni preghiera,

Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

ogni supplicazione che ti sarà rivolta da un individuo o dall’intero tuo popolo d’Israele, allorché ciascuno avrà riconosciuta la sua piaga e il suo dolore e stenderà le sue mani verso questa casa,

Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

tu esaudiscila dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e perdona; rendi a ciascuno secondo le sue vie, tu che conosci il cuore d’ognuno; poiché tu solo conosci il cuore dei figliuoli degli uomini;

That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

affinché essi ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che tu desti ai padri nostri!

Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

Anche lo straniero, che non è del tuo popolo d’Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a motivo del tuo gran nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso, quando verrà a pregarti in questa casa,

Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

tu esaudiscilo dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e concedi a questo straniero tutto quello che ti domanderà, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo d’Israele, e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questa casa che io ho costruita!

If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

Quando il tuo popolo partirà per muover guerra al suo nemico seguendo la via per la quale tu l’avrai mandato, se t’innalza preghiere rivolto alla città che tu hai scelta, e alla casa che io ho costruita al tuo nome,

Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

esaudisci dal cielo le sue preghiere e le sue supplicazioni, e fagli ragione.

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

Quando peccheranno contro di te poiché non v’è uomo che non pecchi e tu ti sarai mosso a sdegno contro di loro e li avrai abbandonati in balìa del nemico che li menerà in cattività in un paese lontano o vicino,

Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

se, nel paese dove saranno schiavi, rientrano in se stessi, se tornano a te e ti rivolgono supplicazioni nel paese del loro servaggio, e dicono: Abbiam peccato, abbiamo operato iniquamente, siamo stati malvagi,

If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

se tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta l’anima loro nel paese del loro servaggio dove sono stati menati schiavi, e ti pregano, rivolti al loro paese, il paese che tu desti ai loro padri, alla città che tu hai scelta, e alla casa che io ho costruita al tuo nome,

Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

esaudisci dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e le loro supplicazioni, e fa’ loro ragione; perdona al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te!

Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Ora, o Dio mio, siano aperti gli occhi tuoi, e siano attente le tue orecchie alla preghiera fatta in questo luogo!

Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

Ed ora, lèvati, o Eterno, o Dio, vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l’Arca della tua forza! I tuoi sacerdoti, o Eterno, o Dio, siano rivestiti di salvezza, e giubilino nel bene i tuoi fedeli!

O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

O Eterno, o Dio, non respingere la faccia del tuo unto; ricordati delle grazie fatte a Davide, tuo servo!"
