Matthew 2

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Kad se Isus rodio u Betlehemu judejskome u dane Heroda kralja, gle, mudraci se s Istoka pojaviše u Jeruzalemu

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

raspitujući se: "Gdje je taj novorođeni kralj židovski? Vidjesmo gdje izlazi zvijezda njegova pa mu se dođosmo pokloniti."

When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Kada to doču kralj Herod, uznemiri se on i sav Jeruzalem s njime.

And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

Sazva sve glavare svećeničke i pismoznance narodne pa ih ispitivaše gdje se Krist ima roditi.

And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

Oni mu odgovoriše: "U Betlehemu judejskome jer ovako piše prorok:

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

A ti, Betleheme, zemljo Judina! Nipošto nisi najmanji među kneževstvima Judinim jer iz tebe će izaći vladalac koji će pasti narod moj - Izraela!

Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

Tada Herod potajno dozva mudrace i razazna od njih vrijeme kad se pojavila zvijezda.

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

Zatim ih posla u Betlehem: "Pođite, reče, i pomno se raspitajte za dijete. Kad ga nađete, javite mi da i ja pođem te mu se poklonim."

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

Oni saslušavši kralja, pođoše. I gle, zvijezda kojoj vidješe izlazak iđaše pred njima sve dok ne stiže i zaustavi se povrh mjesta gdje bijaše dijete.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Kad ugledaše zvijezdu, obradovaše se radošću veoma velikom.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Uđu u kuću, ugledaju dijete s Marijom, majkom njegovom, padnu ničice i poklone mu se. Otvore zatim svoje blago i prinesu mu darove: zlato, tamjan i smirnu.

And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Upućeni zatim u snu da se ne vraćaju Herodu, otiđoše drugim putem u svoju zemlju.

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

A pošto oni otiđoše, gle, anđeo se Gospodnji u snu javi Josipu: "Ustani, reče, uzmi dijete i majku njegovu te bježi u Egipat i ostani ondje dok ti ne reknem jer će Herod tražiti dijete da ga pogubi.

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

On ustane, uzme noću dijete i majku njegovu te krene u Egipat.

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

I osta ondje do Herodova skončanja - da se ispuni što Gospodin reče po proroku: Iz Egipta dozvah Sina svoga.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

Vidjevši da su ga mudraci izigrali, Herod se silno rasrdi i posla poubijati sve dječake u Betlehemu i po svoj okolici, od dvije godine naniže - prema vremenu što ga razazna od mudraca.

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

Tada se ispuni što je rečeno po proroku Jeremiji:

In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

U Rami se glas čuje, kuknjava i plač gorak: Rahela oplakuje sinove svoje i neće da se utješi jer više ih nema.

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Nakon Herodova skončanja, gle, anđeo se Gospodnji javi u snu Josipu u Egiptu:

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

"Ustani, reče, uzmi dijete i njegovu majku te pođi u zemlju izraelsku jer su umrli oni koji su djetetu o glavi radili."

And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

On ustane, uzme dijete i njegovu majku te uđe u zemlju izraelsku.

But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

Ali saznavši da Arhelaj vlada Judejom namjesto svoga oca Heroda, bojao se poći onamo pa, upućen u snu, ode u kraj galilejski.

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Dođe i nastani se u gradu zvanu Nazaret - da se ispuni što je rečeno po prorocima: Zvat će se Nazarećanin.
