Hebrews 11

ایمان، اطمینانی است به چیزهایی كه به آن امیدواریم و اعتقادی است به چیزهایی كه نمی‌بینیم.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

از راه ایمان بود كه مردم در زمان گذشته مقبول خدا شدند.

For by it the elders obtained a good report.

از راه ایمان، ما پی می‌بریم كه كاینات چگونه با كلام خدا خلقت یافت به طوری که آنچه دیدنی است از آنچه نادیدنی است به وجود آمد.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

و ایمان باعث شد كه قربانی هابیل بیشتر از قربانی قائن مقبول خدا گردد و او با آن ایمان در حضور خدا کاملاً نیک محسوب شد، زیرا خدا هدایای او را قبول فرمود و اگرچه او مرده است، ولی هنوز به وسیلهٔ ایمان خود با ما سخن می‌گوید.

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

از راه ایمان، «خنوخ» بدون چشیدن طعم مرگ به حیات دیگر انتقال یافت. اثری از او یافت نشد، زیرا خدا او را بُرده بود چون پیش از آنكه به حیات دیگر انتقال یابد، كلام خدا دربارهٔ او شهادت داده گفته بود كه او خدا را خشنود كرده است

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

و بدون ایمان محال است كه انسان خدا را خشنود سازد، زیرا هركس به سوی خدا می‌آید، باید ایمان داشته باشد كه او هست و به جویندگان خود پاداش می‌دهد.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

وقتی نوح اخطارهای خدا را دربارهٔ امور آینده كه او هنوز نتوانسته بود ببیند، شنید، از روی ایمان از خدا اطاعت كرد و برای نجات خانوادهٔ خویش كشتی‌ای ساخت. به این وسیله جهان را محكوم کرد و نیكی مطلق را كه از راه ایمان حاصل می‌شود به دست آورد.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

ایمان، باعث شد كه وقتی ابراهیم دستور خدا را دایر بر اینکه او باید به سرزمینی برود كه قرار بود بعدها مالک آن بشود، شنید، اطاعت كرد و بدون آنکه بداند كجا می‌رود، حركت كرد.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

او از روی ایمان مثل یک بیگانه در سرزمینی كه خدا به او وعده داده بود، سرگردان شد و با اسحاق و یعقوب كه در آن وعده با او شریک بودند، در چادر زندگی كرد.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

ابراهیم چنین كرد، چون در انتظار شهری بود با بنیاد استوار كه معمار و سازنده‌اش خداست.

For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

از روی ایمان، ساره با وجود این كه از سن باروری گذشته بود، قدرت تولید نسل یافت، زیرا مطمئن بود كه خدا به قول خود وفا می‌کند

Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

و به این سبب از یک مرد، آن هم مردی تقریباً مرده، نسلهای بی‌شماری مثل ستارگان آسمان و یا شنهای ساحل دریا پدید آمدند.

Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

تمامی این اشخاص در ایمان مردند، بدون اینکه صاحب بركات موعود شوند، امّا انجام وعده‌ها را از دور دیده و با شادی در انتظار آنها بودند و به این حقیقت شهادت دادند كه در این جهان، غریب و بیگانه‌اند.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

آنها كه خود را غریب و بیگانه می‌دانند صریحاً نشان می‌دهند كه هنوز به دنبال وطنی برای خود می‌گردند.

For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

اگر آنها هنوز برای زمینی كه ترک كرده بودند، دلتنگ می‌بودند، فرصت كافی داشتند كه به آنجا بازگردند.

And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

امّا در عوض می‌بینیم كه آنها مشتاق مملكتی بهتر -‌یعنی مملكتی آسمانی- هستند. به این جهت خدا عار ندارد كه خدای آنان خوانده شود، زیرا شهری برای آنان آماده كرده است.

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

از روی ایمان، ابراهیم در وقت آزمایش اسحاق را به عنوان قربانی به خدا تقدیم نمود. آری، این مرد كه وعده‌های خدا را پذیرفته بود، حاضر شد یگانه فرزند خود را به خدا تقدیم نماید،

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

با اینکه خدا به او گفته بود نسل او از اسحاق خواهد بود.

Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

ابراهیم خاطرجمع بود كه خدا قادر است اسحاق را حتّی پس از مرگ زنده گرداند. به عبارت دیگر او را به صورت نمونه‌ای از مردگان باز یافت.

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

ایمان باعث شد كه اسحاق یعقوب و عیسو را بركت دهد و از امور آینده سخن گوید.

By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

ایمان باعث شد كه یعقوب وقتی مشرف به موت بود، هر دو فرزند یوسف را بركت دهد و درحالی‌که بر عصای خود تكیه زده بود، خدا را عبادت نماید.

By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

از راه ایمان، یوسف در پایان عمر خویش دربارهٔ رفتن اسرائیل از مصر سخن گفت و به آنان دستور داد با استخوانهای او چه كنند.

By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

وقتی موسی متولّد شد و والدینش دیدند كه او كودک زیبایی بود، آنها از روی ایمان او را مدّت سه ماه در منزل پنهان كردند و از نافرمانی از دستور پادشاه نترسیدند.

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

ایمان باعث شد كه وقتی موسی به سن بلوغ رسید، از مقام و لقب «پسر دختر فرعون» بودن صرف‌نظر نموده آن را رد كند

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

و تحمّل سختی‌ها با اقوام خدا را به لذّتهای زودگذر گناه ترجیح دهد.

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

ننگ و خاری به‌خاطر مسیح را ثروتی عظیم‌تر از گنجهای مصر دانست، زیرا او به پاداش عالم آینده چشم دوخته بود.

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

ایمان باعث شد كه موسی مصر را ترک كند و از خشم پادشاه نهراسد، زیرا او مانند کسی‌که خدای نادیده را همیشه در جلوی چشمان خود می‌بیند ثابت قدم بود.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

به وسیلهٔ ایمان، موسی فصح را برقرار نمود و خون را پاشید تا فرشتهٔ مرگ، نخستزادگان اسرائیل را نكشد.

Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

از راه ایمان بود كه قوم اسرائیل از دریای سرخ عبور كرد، چنانکه گویی از زمین خشک می‌گذرد، امّا وقتی مصریان سعی كردند از آن بگذرند، غرق شدند.

By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

ایمان باعث شد كه دیوارهای شهر اریحا پس از آنكه قوم اسرائیل هفت روز دور آن رژه رفتند، فرو ریزد.

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

ایمان باعث شد كه راحاب فاحشه برخلاف افراد سركشی كه كشته شدند جان سالم بدر برد، زیرا از جاسوس‌ها با صلح و سلامتی استقبال نمود.

By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

دیگر چه بگویم؟ وقت كافی ندارم كه داستانهای زندگی جدعون، باراق، سامسون، یفتاح، داوود، سموئیل و انبیا را نقل كنم.

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

از راه ایمان، آنها سلطنت‌ها را برانداختند و عدل و داد را برقرار ساختند و آنچه را كه خدا به آنها وعده داده بود، به دست آورند. آنها دهان شیران را بستند.

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

آتش سوزان را خاموش كردند. از دَمِ شمشیر رهایی یافتند. در عین ضعف و ناتوانی قدرت یافتند. در جنگ شجاع گشتند و لشکریان دشمن را تارومار نمودند.

Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

زنها، مردگان خود را زنده یافتند. دیگران تا سرحدّ مرگ، شكنجه دیدند و آزادی را نپذیرفتند تا سرانجام به حیاتی بهتر نایل شوند.

Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

دیگران با سختی‌های بسیار مانند استهزاها، تازیانه‌ها و حتّی زنجیر و زندان آزموده شدند.

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

سنگسار گردیدند و با ارّه دو پاره گشتند و با شمشیر كشته شدند. آنها ملبّس به پوست گوسفند و بُز، آواره و سرگردان بودند و متحمّل فقر و تنگدستی و ظلم و جور می‌شدند.

They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

جهان لیاقت آنها را نداشت. آنها در بیابانها و كوهستان‌ها آواره بودند و در غارها و سوراخهای زمین پنهان می‌شدند.

(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

با اینکه آنها همه به‌خاطر ایمانشان مشهور شدند ولی وعده‌های خدا برای هیچ‌یک از آنها کاملاً انجام نیافته بود،

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

زیرا خدا برای ما نقشهٔ بهتری داشت و آن اینکه آنها بدون ما به كمال نرسند.

God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
