Exodus 1

И ето имената на синовете на Израил, които дойдоха в Египет заедно с Яков; всеки дойде с челядта си:

Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

Рувим, Симеон, Леви и Юда,

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

Исахар, Завулон и Вениамин,

Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

Дан и Нефталим, Гад и Асир.

Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Всичките души, които излязоха от семенниците на Яков, бяха седемдесет души; а Йосиф беше вече в Египет.

And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

И Йосиф умря, и всичките му братя, и цялото онова поколение.

And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

А синовете на Израил бяха плодовити и се умножиха, увеличиха се и твърде много се засилиха, и земята се напълни с тях.

And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

Тогава над Египет се възцари нов цар, който не познаваше Йосиф.

Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

И той каза на народа си: Ето, народът на израилевите синове е по-многоброен и по-силен от нас.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

Елате, да действаме разсъдливо срещу тях, за да не се умножават, да не би в случай на война да се съединят и те с враговете ни, да воюват против нас и да си отидат от земята.

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

Затова поставиха над тях надзиратели, които да ги потискат с тежък труд; и те съградиха на фараона градове за житници -- Питом и Рамесий.

Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

Но колкото повече ги потискаха, толкова повече те се умножаваха и се разширяваха, така че египтяните се страхуваха от израилевите синове.

But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

Затова египтяните жестоко караха израилевите синове да работят,

And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

вгорчаваха живота им с тежък труд, да правят кал и кирпичи и да вършат всякаква полска работа; всичките работи, с които ги караха да работят, бяха твърде тежки.

And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

И египетският цар говори на еврейските акушерки, от които едната се наричаше Шифра, а другата Фуа, и им каза:

And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

Когато акуширате на еврейките и видите, че раждат, ако родят син, го убивайте, а ако родят дъщеря, тогава нека живее.

And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

Но акушерките се бояха от Бога и не правеха каквото им беше казал египетският цар, а оставяха живи момченцата.

But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Тогава египетският цар повика акушерките и им каза: Защо направихте това и оставяте живи момченцата?

And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

А акушерките казаха на фараона: Понеже еврейките не са като египтянките; защото са здрави и раждат преди акушерките да дойдат при тях.

And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

Затова Бог правеше добро на акушерките. А народът се умножаваше и твърде много се засилваше.

Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

И понеже акушерките се бояха от Бога, Той им направи домове.

And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

Тогава фараонът поръча на целия си народ, като каза: Всеки син, който се роди на евреите, го хвърляйте в реката, а всяка дъщеря оставяйте жива!

And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
