II Chronicles 20

Sau các việc này, xảy có dân Mô-áp, dân Am-môn, và những người Mao-nít ở cùng họ, kéo đến đặng đánh giặc với Giô-sa-phát

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

Bấy giờ, có người đến thuật cho Giô-sa-phát, mà rằng: Có một đám quân rất đông từ bên bờ kia của biển, từ nước Sy-ri, mà đến hạm đánh vua; kìa chúng đương ở tại Hát-sát-son-Tha-ma, cũng gọi là Eân-ghê-đi.

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon–tamar, which is En–gedi.

Giô-sa-phát sợ hãi, và rao khắp xứ Giu-đa phải kiêng ăn một ngày.

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

Giu-đa nhóm lại đặng cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va cứu giúp; người ta ở các thành Giu-đa đều đến đặng tìm cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va.

And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

Giô-sa-phát đứng trong hội chúng Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, tại trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va, trước hành lang mới,

And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

mà cầu nguyện rằng: Lạy Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ chúng tôi! Ngài há chẳng phải là Chúa ở trên các từng trời sao? Há chẳng phải Ðấng quản trị muôn dân muôn nước sao? Ở nơi tay Chúa có quyền thế năng lực, chẳng ai chống trả Chúa cho nổi.

And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

Hỡi Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi! Ngài há chẳng phải đã đuổi dân ở xứ này khỏi trước mặt dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, mà ban xứ ấy cho dòng dõi Áp-ra-ham, là bạn hữu Chúa, làm sản nghiệp đời đời sao?

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

Chúng đã ở đó, và đã cất cho danh Chúa một đền thánh mà rằng:

And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

Nếu tai họa giáng trên chúng tôi, hoặc gươm giáo, hoặc sự đoán phạt, hoặc dịch hạch, hay là cơn đói kém, thì chúng tôi sẽ đứng trước đền này và trước mặt Chúa (vì danh Chúa ở trong đền này), mà kêu cầu Chúa trong sự gian nan chúng tôi, thì Chúa sẽ dủ nghe và giải cứu cho.

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

Trong lúc dân Y-sơ-ra-ên từ xứ Ê-díp-tô lên, Chúa có cấm họ loán đến xứ dân Am-môn, dân Mô-áp, và người ở núi Sê -i-rơ; dân Y-sơ-ra-ên xây khỏi chúng nó, không diệt chúng nó đi;

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

kìa, chúng nó báo lại chúng tôi dường nào, đến toan đuổi chúng tôi khỏi sản nghiệp Chúa đã ban cho chúng tôi nhận lấy.

Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

Hỡi Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi ôi, chớ thì Ngài sẽ không xét đoán chúng nó sao? Vì nơi chúng tôi chẳng còn sức lực gì đối địch cùng đám quân đông đảo này đương đến hãm đánh chúng tôi, và chúng tôi cũng không biết điều gì mình phải làm; nhưng con mắt chúng tôi ngửa trông Chúa!

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

Cả Giu-đa đều đứng tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va với các đứa nhỏ, vợ, và con cái mình.

And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

Bấy giờ, tại giữa hội chúng, Thần Ðức Giê-hô-va cảm động Gia-ha-xi-ên, con trai Xa-cha-ri, cháu Bê-na-gia, chắt Giê-hi-ên, chít Ma-tha-nia, là người Lê-vi thuộc về dòng A-sáp,

Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

mà phán rằng: Hỡi các người Giu-đa và dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, cùng vua Giô-sa-phát, hãy nghe! Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cho các ngươi như vầy: Chớ sợ, chớ kinh hãi bởi cớ đám quân đông đảo này: vì trận giặc này chẳng phải của các ngươi đâu, bèn là của Ðức Chúa Trời.

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

Ngày mai, hãy đi xuống đón chúng nó: kìa, chúng nó đi lên dốc Xít, các ngươi sẽ gặp chúng nó nơi đầu trũng, trước mặt đồng vắng Giê-ru-ên.

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

Trong trận này các ngươi sẽ chẳng cần gì tranh chiến; hãy dàn ra, đứng yên lặng mà xem thấy sự giải cứu của Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng các ngươi. Hỡi Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem! chớ sợ, chớ kinh hãi; ngày mai, hãy đi ra đón chúng nó, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng các ngươi.

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

Giô-sa-phát bèn cúi sấp mặt xuống đất; và cả Giu-đa và dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều sấp mặt xuống trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, mà thờ lạy Ngài.

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

Người Lê-vi về dòng Kê-hát và về dòng Cô-rê đều đứng dậy cất tiếng lớn mà khen ngợi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

Buổi sớm mai, chúng đều chổi dậy thật sớm, kéo ra đồng vắng Thê-cô-a; đương lúc chúng đi, Giô-sa-phát đứng tại đó, mà nói rằng: Hỡi người Giu-đa và dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem! hãy nghe ta: Khá tin cậy Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi, thì các ngươi sẽ vững chắc; hãy tin các đấng tiên tri Ngài, thì các ngươi sẽ được may mắn.

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Khi người đã bàn nghị với dân sự, bèn lập những người ca xướng cho Ðức Giê-hô-va mặc áo lễ thánh mà đi ra trước cơ binh ngợi khen Chúa rằng: Hãy ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì sự thương xót Ngài hằng có đời đời.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

Ðương lúc chúng khởi ca hát và ngợi khen thì Ðức Giê-hô-va đặt phục binh xông vào dân Am-môn, dân Mô-áp và những kẻ ở núi Sê -i-rơ đã đến hãm đánh Giu-đa; và các dân ấy đều bị bại.

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

Dân Am-môn và dân Mô-áp dấy lên đánh dân ở núi Sê -i-rơ, đặng diệt chúng nó đi; khi đã diệt dân ở Sê -i-rơ rồi, thì chúng lại trở giết lẫn nhau.

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

Khi dân Giu-đa đến tháp canh nơi đồng vắng, nhìn đến đám quân đông đảo, thì thấy những thây nằm sãi trên đất, chẳng có một ai thoát khỏi được.

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

Giô-sa-phát và dân sự người đến cướp lấy tài vật của chúng, thấy có nhiều của cải, xác chết, và đồ quí báu, bèn cướp lấy cho đến chừng đem đi không đặng; họ cướp lấy tài vật trong ba ngày, vì là rất nhiều.

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

Qua ngày thứ tư, họ nhóm hiệp tại trũng Bê-ra-ca đặt tên chỗ đó là trũng Bê-ra-ca cho đến, ngày nay.

And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

Hết thảy người Giu-đa và người Giê-ru-sa-lem cùng Giô-sa-phát đi đầu trước, trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem cách vui vẻ; vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã làm cho chúng vui mừng, vì cớ quân thù nghịch mình bị đánh bại.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

Chúng gảy đờn cầm, đờn sắt, và thổi sáo mà trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, đến đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va.

And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

Khi các nước thiên hạ nghe Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đánh bại quân thù nghịch của Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì lấy làm kinh hãi Ðức Chúa Trời.

And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

Vậy, nước của Giô-sa-phát được hòa bình, vì Ðức Chúa Trời người ban cho người sự an nghỉ bốn bên.

So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

Vậy, Giô-sa-phát làm vua nước Giu-đa; khi lên ngôi thì tuổi được ba mươi lăm, và người cai trị hai mươi lăm năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem; tên mẹ người là A-xu-ba, con gái của Si-li.

And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

Người đi theo con đường của A-sa, cha người, không lìa bỏ, làm điều ngay thẳng trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va.

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

Song người không trừ bỏ các nơi cao, và dân sự chưa dốc lòng tìm cầu Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

Các công việc khác của Giô-sa-phát từ đầu đến cuối, đều chép tong truyện Giê-hu, con trai Ha-na-ni, và truyện ấy đã đem vào sách các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

Sau việc đó, Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, kết giao với A-cha-xia, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên; người này ăn ở rất gian ác.

And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

Hai vua hội hiệp nhau đặng đóng tàu vượt đi Ta-rê-si; họ đóng tàu tại Ê-xi-ôn-Ghê-be.

And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion–geber.

Khi ấy, Ê-li-ê-xe, con trai Ðô-đa-va ở Ma-rê-sa, nói tiên tri về vua Giô-sa-phát, mà rằng: Bởi vì vua kết giao với A-cha-xia, nên Ðức Giê-hô-va đã hủy phá công việc vua; những tàu bèn bị bể nát, không vượt đi Ta-rê-si được.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
