Isaiah 9

Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

لیکن مصیبت زدہ تاریکی میں نہیں رہیں گے۔ گو پہلے زبولون کا علاقہ اور نفتالی کا علاقہ پست ہوا ہے، لیکن آئندہ جھیل کے ساتھ کا راستہ، دریائے یردن کے پار، غیریہودیوں کا گلیل سرفراز ہو گا۔

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

اندھیرے میں چلنے والی قوم نے ایک تیز روشنی دیکھی، موت کے سائے میں ڈوبے ہوئے ملک کے باشندوں پر روشنی چمکی۔

Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

تُو نے قوم کو بڑھا کر اُسے بڑی خوشی دلائی ہے۔ تیرے حضور وہ یوں خوشی مناتے ہیں جس طرح فصل کاٹتے اور لُوٹ کا مال بانٹتے وقت منائی جاتی ہے۔

For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

تُو نے اپنی قوم کو اُس دن کی طرح چھٹکارا دیا جب تُو نے مِدیان کو شکست دی تھی۔ اُسے دبانے والا جوا ٹوٹ گیا، اور اُس پر ظلم کرنے والے کی لاٹھی ٹکڑے ٹکڑے ہو گئی ہے۔

For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

زمین پر زور سے مارے گئے فوجی جوتے اور خون میں لت پت فوجی وردیاں سب حوالۂ آتش ہو کر بھسم ہو جائیں گی۔

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

کیونکہ ہمارے ہاں بچہ پیدا ہوا، ہمیں بیٹا بخشا گیا ہے۔ اُس کے کندھوں پر حکومت کا اختیار ٹھہرا رہے گا۔ وہ انوکھا مشیر، قوی خدا، ابدی باپ اور صلح سلامتی کا شہزادہ کہلائے گا۔

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

اُس کی حکومت زور پکڑتی جائے گی، اور امن و امان کی انتہا نہیں ہو گی۔ وہ داؤد کے تخت پر بیٹھ کر اُس کی سلطنت پر حکومت کرے گا، وہ اُسے عدل و انصاف سے مضبوط کر کے اب سے ابد تک قائم رکھے گا۔ رب الافواج کی غیرت ہی اِسے انجام دے گی۔

The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

رب نے یعقوب کے خلاف پیغام بھیجا، اور وہ اسرائیل پر نازل ہو گیا ہے۔

And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,

اسرائیل اور سامریہ کے تمام باشندے اِسے جلد ہی جان جائیں گے، حالانکہ وہ اِس وقت بڑی شیخی مار کر کہتے ہیں،

The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

”بےشک ہماری اینٹوں کی دیواریں گر گئی ہیں، لیکن ہم اُنہیں تراشے ہوئے پتھروں سے دوبارہ تعمیر کر لیں گے۔ بےشک ہمارے انجیرتوت کے درخت کٹ گئے ہیں، لیکن کوئی بات نہیں، ہم اُن کی جگہ دیودار کے درخت لگا لیں گے۔“

Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

لیکن رب اسرائیل کے دشمن رضین کو تقویت دے کر اُس کے خلاف بھیجے گا بلکہ اسرائیل کے تمام دشمنوں کو اُس پر حملہ کرنے کے لئے اُبھارے گا۔

The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

شام کے فوجی مشرق سے اور فلستی مغرب سے منہ پھاڑ کر اسرائیل کو ہڑپ کر لیں گے۔ تاہم رب کا غضب ٹھنڈا نہیں ہو گا بلکہ اُس کا ہاتھ مارنے کے لئے اُٹھا ہی رہے گا۔

For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

کیونکہ اِس کے باوجود بھی لوگ سزا دینے والے کے پاس واپس نہیں آئیں گے اور رب الافواج کے طالب نہیں ہوں گے۔

Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.

نتیجے میں رب ایک ہی دن میں اسرائیل کا نہ صرف سر بلکہ اُس کی دُم بھی کاٹے گا، نہ صرف کھجور کی شاندار شاخ بلکہ معمولی سا سرکنڈا بھی توڑے گا۔

The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

بزرگ اور اثر و رسوخ والے اسرائیل کا سر ہیں جبکہ جھوٹی تعلیم دینے والے نبی اُس کی دُم ہیں۔

For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

کیونکہ قوم کے راہنما لوگوں کو غلط راہ پر لے گئے ہیں، اور جن کی راہنمائی وہ کر رہے ہیں اُن کے دماغ میں فتور آ گیا ہے۔

Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

اِس لئے رب نہ قوم کے جوانوں سے خوش ہو گا، نہ یتیموں اور بیواؤں پر رحم کرے گا۔ کیونکہ سب کے سب بےدین اور شریر ہیں، ہر منہ کفر بکتا ہے۔ تاہم رب کا غضب ٹھنڈا نہیں ہو گا بلکہ اُس کا ہاتھ مارنے کے لئے اُٹھا ہی رہے گا۔

For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

کیونکہ اُن کی بےدینی کی بھڑکتی ہوئی آگ کانٹےدار جھاڑیاں اور اونٹ کٹارے بھسم کر دیتی ہے، بلکہ گنجان جنگل بھی اُس کی زد میں آ کر دھوئیں کے کالے بادل چھوڑتا ہے۔

Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

رب الافواج کے غضب سے ملک جُھلس جائے گا اور اُس کے باشندے آگ کا لقمہ بن جائیں گے۔ یہاں تک کہ کوئی بھی اپنے بھائی پر ترس نہیں کھائے گا۔

And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

اور گو ہر ایک دائیں طرف مُڑ کر سب کچھ ہڑپ کر جائے توبھی بھوکا رہے گا، گو بائیں طرف رُخ کر کے سب کچھ نگل جائے توبھی سیر نہیں ہو گا۔ ہر ایک اپنے پڑوسی کو کھائے گا،

Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

منسّی افرائیم کو اور افرائیم منسّی کو۔ اور دونوں مل کر یہوداہ پر حملہ کریں گے۔ تاہم رب کا غضب ٹھنڈا نہیں ہو گا بلکہ اُس کا ہاتھ مارنے کے لئے اُٹھا ہی رہے گا۔
