Deuteronomy 20

When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

جب تُو جنگ کے لئے نکل کر دیکھتا ہے کہ دشمن تعداد میں زیادہ ہیں اور اُن کے پاس گھوڑے اور رتھ بھی ہیں تو مت ڈرنا۔ رب تیرا خدا جو تجھے مصر سے نکال لایا اب بھی تیرے ساتھ ہے۔

And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

جنگ کے لئے نکلنے سے پہلے امام سامنے آئے اور فوج سے مخاطب ہو کر

And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

کہے، ”سن اے اسرائیل! آج تم اپنے دشمن سے لڑنے جا رہے ہو۔ اُن کے سبب سے پریشان نہ ہو۔ اُن سے نہ خوف کھاؤ، نہ گھبراؤ،

For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

کیونکہ رب تمہارا خدا خود تمہارے ساتھ جا کر دشمن سے لڑے گا۔ وہی تمہیں فتح بخشے گا۔“

And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

پھر نگہبان فوج سے مخاطب ہوں، ”کیا یہاں کوئی ہے جس نے حال میں اپنا نیا گھر مکمل کیا لیکن اُسے مخصوص کرنے کا موقع نہ ملا؟ وہ اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ جنگ کے دوران مارا جائے اور کوئی اَور گھر کو مخصوص کر کے اُس میں بسنے لگے۔

And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

کیا کوئی ہے جس نے انگور کا باغ لگا کر اِس وقت اُس کی پہلی فصل کے انتظار میں ہے؟ وہ اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ جنگ میں مارا جائے اور کوئی اَور باغ کا فائدہ اُٹھائے۔

And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

کیا کوئی ہے جس کی منگنی ہوئی ہے اور جو اِس وقت شادی کے انتظار میں ہے؟ وہ اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ جنگ میں مارا جائے اور کوئی اَور اُس کی منگیتر سے شادی کرے۔“

And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

نگہبان کہیں، ”کیا کوئی خوف زدہ یا پریشان ہے؟ وہ اپنے گھر واپس چلا جائے تاکہ اپنے ساتھیوں کو پریشان نہ کرے۔“

And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

اِس کے بعد فوجیوں پر افسر مقرر کئے جائیں۔

When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

کسی شہر پر حملہ کرنے سے پہلے اُس کے باشندوں کو ہتھیار ڈال دینے کا موقع دینا۔

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

اگر وہ مان جائیں اور اپنے دروازے کھول دیں تو وہ تیرے لئے بیگار میں کام کر کے تیری خدمت کریں۔

And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

لیکن اگر وہ ہتھیار ڈالنے سے انکار کریں اور جنگ چھڑ جائے تو شہر کا محاصرہ کر۔

And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

جب رب تیرا خدا تجھے شہر پر فتح دے گا تو اُس کے تمام مردوں کو ہلاک کر دینا۔

But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.

تُو تمام مالِ غنیمت عورتوں، بچوں اور مویشیوں سمیت رکھ سکتا ہے۔ دشمن کی جو چیزیں رب نے تیرے حوالے کر دی ہیں اُن سب کو تُو استعمال کر سکتا ہے۔

Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

یوں اُن شہروں سے نپٹنا جو تیرے اپنے ملک سے باہر ہیں۔

But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

لیکن جو شہر اُس ملک میں واقع ہیں جو رب تیرا خدا تجھے میراث میں دے رہا ہے، اُن کے تمام جانداروں کو ہلاک کر دینا۔

But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

اُنہیں رب کے سپرد کر کے مکمل طور پر ہلاک کرنا، جس طرح رب تیرے خدا نے تجھے حکم دیا ہے۔ اِس میں حِتّی، اموری، کنعانی، فرِزّی، حِوّی اور یبوسی شامل ہیں۔

That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.

اگر تُو ایسا نہ کرے تو وہ تمہیں رب تمہارے خدا کا گناہ کرنے پر اُکسائیں گے۔ جو گھنونی حرکتیں وہ اپنے دیوتاؤں کی پوجا کرتے وقت کرتے ہیں اُنہیں وہ تمہیں بھی سکھائیں گے۔

When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:

شہر کا محاصرہ کرتے وقت ارد گرد کے پھل دار درختوں کو کاٹ کر تباہ نہ کر دینا خواہ بڑی دیر بھی ہو جائے، ورنہ تُو اُن کا پھل نہیں کھا سکے گا۔ اُنہیں نہ کاٹنا۔ کیا درخت تیرے دشمن ہیں جن کا محاصرہ کرنا ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں!

Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.

اُن درختوں کی اَور بات ہے جو پھل نہیں لاتے۔ اُنہیں تُو کاٹ کر محاصرے کے لئے استعمال کر سکتا ہے جب تک شہر شکست نہ کھائے۔
