Deuteronomy 21

If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:

جب تُو اُس ملک میں آباد ہو گا جو رب تجھے میراث میں دے رہا ہے تاکہ تُو اُس پر قبضہ کرے تو ہو سکتا ہے کہ کوئی لاش کھلے میدان میں کہیں پڑی پائی جائے۔ اگر معلوم نہ ہو کہ کس نے اُسے قتل کیا ہے

Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

تو پہلے ارد گرد کے شہروں کے بزرگ اور قاضی آ کر پتا کریں کہ کون سا شہر لاش کے زیادہ قریب ہے۔

And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

پھر اُس شہر کے بزرگ ایک جوان گائے چن لیں جو کبھی کام کے لئے استعمال نہیں ہوئی۔

And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley:

وہ اُسے ایک ایسی وادی میں لے جائیں جس میں نہ کبھی ہل چلایا گیا، نہ پودے لگائے گئے ہوں۔ وادی میں ایسی نہر ہو جو پورا سال بہتی رہے۔ وہیں بزرگ جوان گائے کی گردن توڑ ڈالیں۔

And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:

پھر لاوی کے قبیلے کے امام قریب آئیں۔ کیونکہ رب تمہارے خدا نے اُنہیں چن لیا ہے تاکہ وہ خدمت کریں، رب کے نام سے برکت دیں اور تمام جھگڑوں اور حملوں کا فیصلہ کریں۔

And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

اُن کے دیکھتے دیکھتے شہر کے بزرگ اپنے ہاتھ گائے کی لاش کے اوپر دھو لیں۔

And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

ساتھ ساتھ وہ کہیں، ”ہم نے اِس شخص کو قتل نہیں کیا، نہ ہم نے دیکھا کہ کس نے یہ کیا۔

Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

اے رب، اپنی قوم اسرائیل کا یہ کفارہ قبول فرما جسے تُو نے فدیہ دے کر چھڑایا ہے۔ اپنی قوم اسرائیل کو اِس بےقصور کے قتل کا قصوروار نہ ٹھہرا۔“ تب مقتول کا کفارہ دیا جائے گا۔

So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.

یوں تُو ایسے بےقصور شخص کے قتل کا داغ اپنے درمیان سے مٹا دے گا۔ کیونکہ تُو نے وہی کچھ کیا ہو گا جو رب کی نظر میں درست ہے۔

When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

ہو سکتا ہے کہ تُو اپنے دشمن سے جنگ کرے اور رب تمہارا خدا تجھے فتح بخشے۔ جنگی قیدیوں کو جمع کرتے وقت

And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;

تجھے اُن میں سے ایک خوب صورت عورت نظر آتی ہے جس کے ساتھ تیرا دل لگ جاتا ہے۔ تُو اُس سے شادی کر سکتا ہے۔

Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

اُسے اپنے گھر میں لے آ۔ وہاں وہ اپنے سر کے بالوں کو منڈوائے، اپنے ناخن تراشے

And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

اور اپنے وہ کپڑے اُتارے جو وہ پہنے ہوئے تھی جب اُسے قید کیا گیا۔ وہ پورے ایک مہینے تک اپنے والدین کے لئے ماتم کرے۔ پھر تُو اُس کے پاس جا کر اُس کے ساتھ شادی کر سکتا ہے۔

And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

اگر وہ تجھے کسی وقت پسند نہ آئے تو اُسے جانے دے۔ وہ وہاں جائے جہاں اُس کا جی چاہے۔ تجھے اُسے بیچنے یا اُس سے لونڈی کا سا سلوک کرنے کی اجازت نہیں ہے، کیونکہ تُو نے اُسے مجبور کر کے اُس سے شادی کی ہے۔

If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:

ہو سکتا ہے کسی مرد کی دو بیویاں ہوں۔ ایک کو وہ پیار کرتا ہے، دوسری کو نہیں۔ دونوں بیویوں کے بیٹے پیدا ہوئے ہیں، لیکن جس بیوی سے شوہر محبت نہیں کرتا اُس کا بیٹا سب سے پہلے پیدا ہوا۔

Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:

جب باپ اپنی ملکیت وصیت میں تقسیم کرتا ہے تو لازم ہے کہ وہ اپنے سب سے بڑے بیٹے کا موروثی حق پورا کرے۔ اُسے پہلوٹھے کا یہ حق اُس بیوی کے بیٹے کو منتقل کرنے کی اجازت نہیں جسے وہ پیار کرتا ہے۔

But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

اُسے تسلیم کرنا ہے کہ اُس بیوی کا بیٹا سب سے بڑا ہے، جس سے وہ محبت نہیں کرتا۔ نتیجتاً اُسے اُس بیٹے کو دوسرے بیٹوں کی نسبت دُگنا حصہ دینا پڑے گا، کیونکہ وہ اپنے باپ کی طاقت کا پہلا اظہار ہے۔ اُسے پہلوٹھے کا حق حاصل ہے۔

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

ہو سکتا ہے کہ کسی کا بیٹا ہٹ دھرم اور سرکش ہو۔ وہ اپنے والدین کی اطاعت نہیں کرتا اور اُن کے تنبیہ کرنے اور سزا دینے پر بھی اُن کی نہیں سنتا۔

Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

اِس صورت میں والدین اُسے پکڑ کر شہر کے دروازے پر لے جائیں جہاں بزرگ جمع ہوتے ہیں۔

And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

وہ بزرگوں سے کہیں، ”ہمارا بیٹا ہٹ دھرم اور سرکش ہے۔ وہ ہماری اطاعت نہیں کرتا بلکہ عیاش اور شرابی ہے۔“

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

یہ سن کر شہر کے تمام مرد اُسے سنگسار کریں۔ یوں تُو اپنے درمیان سے بُرائی مٹا دے گا۔ تمام اسرائیل یہ سن کر ڈر جائے گا۔

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

جب تُو کسی کو سزائے موت دے کر اُس کی لاش کسی لکڑی یا درخت سے لٹکاتا ہے

His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

تو اُسے اگلی صبح تک وہاں نہ چھوڑنا۔ ہر صورت میں اُسے اُسی دن دفنا دینا، کیونکہ جسے بھی درخت سے لٹکایا گیا ہے اُس پر اللہ کی لعنت ہے۔ اگر اُسے اُسی دن دفنایا نہ جائے تو تُو اُس ملک کو ناپاک کر دے گا جو رب تیرا خدا تجھے میراث میں دے رہا ہے۔
