Deuteronomy 18

The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.

اسرائیل کے ہر قبیلے کو میراث میں اُس کا اپنا علاقہ ملے گا سوائے لاوی کے قبیلے کے جس میں امام بھی شامل ہیں۔ وہ جلنے والی اور دیگر قربانیوں میں سے اپنا حصہ لے کر گزارہ کریں۔

Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

اُن کے پاس دوسروں کی طرح موروثی زمین نہیں ہو گی بلکہ رب خود اُن کا موروثی حصہ ہو گا۔ یہ اُس نے وعدہ کر کے کہا ہے۔

And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

جب بھی کسی بَیل یا بھیڑ کو قربان کیا جائے تو اماموں کو اُس کا شانہ، جبڑے اور اوجھڑی ملنے کا حق ہے۔

The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

اپنی فصلوں کا پہلا پھل بھی اُنہیں دینا یعنی اناج، مَے، زیتون کا تیل اور بھیڑوں کی پہلی کتری ہوئی اُون۔

For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.

کیونکہ رب نے تیرے تمام قبیلوں میں سے لاوی کے قبیلے کو ہی مقدِس میں رب کے نام میں خدمت کرنے کے لئے چنا ہے۔ یہ ہمیشہ کے لئے اُن کی اور اُن کی اولاد کی ذمہ داری رہے گی۔

And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;

کچھ لاوی مقدِس کے پاس نہیں بلکہ اسرائیل کے مختلف شہروں میں رہیں گے۔ اگر اُن میں سے کوئی اُس جگہ آنا چاہے جو رب مقدِس کے لئے چنے گا

Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD.

تو وہ وہاں کے خدمت کرنے والے لاویوں کی طرح مقدِس میں رب اپنے خدا کے نام میں خدمت کر سکتا ہے۔

They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

اُسے قربانیوں میں سے دوسروں کے برابر لاویوں کا حصہ ملنا ہے، خواہ اُسے خاندانی ملکیت بیچنے سے پیسے مل گئے ہوں یا نہیں۔

When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

جب تُو اُس ملک میں داخل ہو گا جو رب تیرا خدا تجھے دے رہا ہے تو وہاں کی رہنے والی قوموں کے گھنونے دستور نہ اپنانا۔

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

تیرے درمیان کوئی بھی اپنے بیٹے یا بیٹی کو قربانی کے طور پر نہ جلائے۔ نہ کوئی غیب دانی کرے، نہ فال یا شگون نکالے یا جادوگری کرے۔

Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

اِسی طرح منتر پڑھنا، حاضِرات کرنا، قسمت کا حال بتانا یا مُردوں کی روحوں سے رابطہ کرنا سخت منع ہے۔

For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

جو بھی ایسا کرے وہ رب کی نظر میں قابلِ گھن ہے۔ اِن ہی مکروہ دستوروں کی وجہ سے رب تیرا خدا تیرے آگے سے اُن قوموں کو نکال دے گا۔

Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

اِس لئے لازم ہے کہ تُو رب اپنے خدا کے سامنے بےقصور رہے۔

For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

جن قوموں کو تُو نکالنے والا ہے وہ اُن کی سنتی ہیں جو فال نکالتے اور غیب دانی کرتے ہیں۔ لیکن رب تیرے خدا نے تجھے ایسا کرنے کی اجازت نہیں دی۔

The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

رب تیرا خدا تیرے واسطے تیرے بھائیوں میں سے مجھ جیسے نبی کو برپا کرے گا۔ اُس کی سننا۔

According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

کیونکہ حورب یعنی سینا پہاڑ پر جمع ہوتے وقت تُو نے خود رب اپنے خدا سے درخواست کی، ”نہ مَیں مزید رب اپنے خدا کی آواز سننا چاہتا، نہ یہ بھڑکتی ہوئی آگ دیکھنا چاہتا ہوں، ورنہ مر جاؤں گا۔“

And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

تب رب نے مجھ سے کہا، ”جو کچھ وہ کہتے ہیں وہ ٹھیک ہے۔

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

آئندہ مَیں اُن میں سے تجھ جیسا نبی کھڑا کروں گا۔ مَیں اپنے الفاظ اُس کے منہ میں ڈال دوں گا، اور وہ میری ہر بات اُن تک پہنچائے گا۔

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

جب وہ نبی میرے نام میں کچھ کہے تو لازم ہے کہ تُو اُس کی سن۔ جو نہیں سنے گا اُس سے مَیں خود جواب طلب کروں گا۔

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

لیکن اگر کوئی نبی گستاخ ہو کر میرے نام میں کوئی بات کہے جو مَیں نے اُسے بتانے کو نہیں کہا تھا تو اُسے سزائے موت دینی ہے۔ اِسی طرح اُس نبی کو بھی ہلاک کر دینا ہے جو دیگر معبودوں کے نام میں بات کرے۔“

And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

شاید تیرے ذہن میں سوال اُبھر آئے کہ ہم کس طرح معلوم کر سکتے ہیں کہ کوئی کلام واقعی رب کی طرف سے ہے یا نہیں۔

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

جواب یہ ہے کہ اگر نبی رب کے نام میں کچھ کہے اور وہ پورا نہ ہو جائے تو مطلب ہے کہ نبی کی بات رب کی طرف سے نہیں ہے بلکہ اُس نے گستاخی کر کے بات کی ہے۔ اِس صورت میں اُس سے مت ڈرنا۔
