I Peter 1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

از طرف پطرس، رسول عیسی مسیح به قوم برگزیدهٔ خدا كه در سرتاسر استانهای پنطس، غلاطیه، كپدوكیه، آسیا و بطینیه پراكنده شده‌اند.

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

خدای پدر مطابق ارادهٔ خود، شما را از ازل برگزیده است و شما به وسیلهٔ روح خدا تقدیس شده‌اید تا از عیسی مسیح اطاعت كنید و خون او ریخته شد تا شما پاک شوید. فیض و آرامش برای شما روز افزون باد.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

سپاس بر خدا، پدر خداوند ما عیسی مسیح، كه به لطف بزرگ خود به وسیلهٔ رستاخیز عیسی مسیح از مردگان، تولّد تازه و امید زنده به ما بخشیده است.

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

تا روزی تمام بركات موعود را به دست آوریم. این بركات در عالم بالا، در جایی‌که خراب و ضایع نمی‌شود و از آب و رنگ نمی‌‌افتد برای شما نگاه داشته می‌شوند.

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

و درحالی‌که شما در انتظار نجاتی هستید كه در زمان آخر به ظهور می‌رسد، خدا با قدرت خود، شما را به وسیلهٔ ایمانتان حفظ خواهد نمود.

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

این امر باید شما را خوشحال كند، اگرچه برای زمان كوتاهی، شاید لازم باشد كه گرفتار درد آزمایشهای سخت شوید.

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

چنانکه طلای فانی در آتش آزمایش می‌شود، ایمان شما نیز باید در زحمات امتحان گردد، (اگرچه ایمان از طلا خیلی گرانبهاتر است.) تا در آن روزی كه عیسی مسیح ظهور می‌کند، ایمان خالص شما موجب ستایش و جلال و افتخار شما بشود.

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

با وجود اینكه تا به حال مسیح را ندیده‌اید، او را دوست دارید و با اینكه اكنون هم او را نمی‌بینید، به او ایمان دارید و با شادی عظیم و پرشکوه كه غیرقابل توصیف است، شادمان هستید

Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

و نتیجهٔ نهایی ایمان شما این خواهد بود كه جانهای خود را نجات می‌دهید.

Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

در خصوص این نجات، انبیاء نه فقط پیشگویی كردند كه از راه فیض خدا به شما خواهد رسید، بلكه مطالعه و تحقیقی عمیق دربارهٔ آن نموده‌اند

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

و وقتی روح مسیح كه در آنها بود، دربارهٔ زحماتی كه مسیح می‌بایست متحمّل شود، جلالی كه به دنبال آنها خواهد آمد پیشگویی كرد، آنها سعی می‌کردند بدانند كه زمان وقوع آن چه موقع خواهد بود و چگونه خواهد آمد.

Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

امّا آنها فقط به این حقیقت پی بردند كه مأموریت آنان به‌خاطر خودشان نبود، بلكه برای شما بوده است. كسانی که بشارت انجیل را به شما دادند با كمک روح‌القدس كه از عالم بالا فرستاده شده است، این حقایق را به شما گفته‌اند؛ حقایقی كه حتّی فرشتگان آرزوی درک آنها را دارند.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

پس حواس خود را جمع كرده و هوشیار باشید. در انتظار آن فیضی كه در وقت ظهور عیسی مسیح نصیب شما خواهد شد، با امید به سر برید.

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

مثل فرزندانی كه مطیع خدا هستند، نگذارید آن تمایلات نفسانی كه به دوران جهالت گذشتهٔ شما مربوط است، زندگی شما را تحت تأثیر خود قرار دهند.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

بلكه چنانکه خدایی كه شما را خوانده است، پاک است شما نیز در تمام رفتارتان پاک باشید.

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

زیرا کتاب‌مقدّس می‌فرماید: «شما باید مقدّس باشید، زیرا که من قدّوسم.»

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

شما در دعاهای خود، كسی را پدر خطاب می‌کنید كه بدون هیچ‌گونه تبعیضی همه را مطابق کارهایشان داوری خواهد كرد بنابراین شما بقیّهٔ عمر خود را بر روی زمین با خداترسی بگذرانید.

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

فراموش نكنید كه شما از قید روشهای بیهودهٔ زندگی كه از نیاکان خود آموخته بودید، آزاد شدید و این آزادی با پرداخت چیزهای فانی مثل طلا و نقره نبود؛

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

بلكه با خون گرانبهایی مانند خون برّه‌ای بی‌نقص و عیب، یعنی با خون مسیح آزاد شدید.

Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

خدا قبل از آفرینش جهان او را برای همین كار معیّن فرمود، ولی او در زمان آخر به‌خاطر شما ظاهر شده است.

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

شما به وسیلهٔ مسیح به خدا ایمان دارید، خدایی كه مسیح را پس از مرگ زنده گردانید و به او جاه و جلال بخشید تا ایمان و امید شما به خدا متّکی باشد.

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

اكنون چون از حقیقت اطاعت می‌کنید، جانهای خود را پاک و منزّه ساخته‌اید، می‌توانید یكدیگر را صمیمانه دوست داشته باشید. پس یكدیگر را از دل و جان دوست بدارید.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

این بار تولّد شما در اثر تخم فانی نبود بلكه به وسیلهٔ تخم غیرفانی، یعنی كلام‌ خدای زنده و جاودان تولّد تازه یافتید.

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

زیرا «تمام آدمیان مثل علف هستند، و تمام جلال آنان مانند گل علف است. علف خشک می‌شود و گلش می‌ریزد،

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

امّا كلام خدا تا ابد باقی است.» و این كلام همان مژده‌ای است كه به شما داده شده است.
