Isaiah 8

यहोवा ने मुझसे कहा, “लिखने के लिये मिट्टी की बड़ी सी तख्ती ले और उस पर सुए से यह लिख: ‘महेर्शालाल्हाशबज’ अर्थात् ‘यहाँ जल्दी ही लूटमार और चोरियाँ होंगी।’”

Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Maher–shalal–hash–baz.

मैंने कुछ ऐसे लोग एकत्र किये जिन पर साक्षी होने के लिये विश्वास किया जा सकता था। ये लोग थे नबी ऊरिय्याह और जकर्याह जो जेबेरेक्याह का पुत्र था। उन लोगों ने मुझे इन बातों को लिखते हुए देखा था।

And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

फिर मैं उस नबिया के पास गया। मेरे उसके साथ साथ रहने के बाद, वह गर्भवती हो गयी और उसका एक पुत्र हुआ। तब यहोवा ने मुझसे कहा, “तू लड़के का नाम महेर्शालाल्हशबज रख।

And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher–shalal–hash–baz.

क्योंकि इससे पहले कि बच्चा ‘माँ’ और ‘पिता’ कहना सीखेगा, उससे पहले ही परमेश्वर दमिश्क और शोमरोन की समूची धनसम्पत्ति को छीन लेगा और उन वस्तुओं को अश्शूर के राजा को दे देगा।”

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

यहोवा ने मुझ से फिर कहा।

The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,

मेरे स्वामी ने कहा, “ये लोग शीलोह की नहर के धीरे—धीरे बहते पानी को लेने से मना करते हैं। ये लोग रसीन और रमल्याह के पुत्र (पिकाह) के साथ प्रसन्न रहते हैं।”

Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

किन्तु इसलिये मैं, यहोवा, अश्शूर के राजा और उसकी समूची शक्ति को तुम्हारे विरोध में लेकर आऊँगा। वे परात नदी की भयंकर बाढ़ की तरह आयेंगे। यह ऐसा होगा जैसे किनारों को तोड़ती डुबोती नदी उफ़न पड़ती है।

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

जो पानी उस नदी से उफन कर निकलेगा, वह यहूदा में भर जायेगा और यहूदा को प्राय: डुबो डालेगा। इम्मानूएल, यह बाढ़ तब तक फैलती चली जायेगी जब तक वह तुम्हारे समूचे देश को ही न डुबो डाले।

And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

हे जातियों, तुम सभी युद्ध के लिये तैयार रहो! तुम को पराजित किया जायेगा। अरे, सुदूर के देशों, सुनो! तुम सभी युद्ध के लिये तैयार रहो! तुमको पराजित किया जायेगा।

Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

अपने युद्ध की योजनाएँ रचो! तुम्हारी योजनाएँ पराजित हो जायेंगी। तुम अपनी सेना को आदेश दो! तुम्हारे वे आदेश व्यर्थ हो जायेंगे, क्यों क्योंकि परमेश्वर हमारे साथ है।

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

यहोवा ने अपनी महान शक्ति के साथ मुझ से कहा। यहोवा ने मुझे चेतावनी दी कि मैं इन अन्य लोगों के समान न बनूँ। यहोवा ने कहा,

For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

“हर कोई कह रहा है कि वे दूसरे लोग उसके विरुद्ध षड़यन्त्र रच रहे हैं। तुम्हें उन बातों पर विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिए। जिन बातों से वे डरते हैं, तुम्हें उन बातों से नहीं डरना चाहिये। तुम्हें उनके प्रति निर्भय रहना चाहिए!”

Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

तुम्हें बस सर्वशक्तिमान यहोवा से ही डरना चाहिये। तुम्हें बस उसी का आदर करना चाहिये। तुम्हें उसी से डरना चाहिये।

Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

यदि तुम यहोवा के प्रति आदर रखोगे और उसे पवित्र मानोगे तो वह तुम्हारे लिये एक सुरक्षित स्थान होगा। किन्तु तुम उसका आदर नहीं करते। इसलिए परमेश्वर एक ऐसी चट्टान हो गया है जिसके उपर तुम लोग गिरोगे। वह एक ऐसी चट्टान हो गया है जिस पर इस्राएल के दो परिवार ठोकर खायेंगे। यरूशलेम के सभी लोगों को फँसाने के लिये वह एक फँदा बन गया है।

And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

(इस चट्टान पर बहुत से लोग गिरेंगे। वे गिरेंगे और चकनाचूर हो जायेंगे। वे जाल में पड़ेंगे और पकड़े जायेंगे।)

And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

यशायाह ने कहा, “एक वाचा कर और उस पर मुहर लगा दे। भविष्य के लिये, मेरे उपदेशों की रक्षा कर। मेरे अनुयायियों के देखते हुए ही ऐसा कर।”

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

वह वाचा यह है: मैं सहायता पाने के लिये यहोवा की प्रतीक्षा करुँगा। यहोवा याकूब के घराने से लज्जित है। वह उनको देखना तक नहीं चाहता है। किन्तु मैं यहोवा की प्रतीक्षा करुँगा, वह हमारी रक्षा करेगा।

And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

मैं और मेरे बच्चे इस्राएल के लोगों के लिये संकेत और प्रमाण हैं। हम उस सर्वशक्तिमान यहोवा के द्वारा भेजे गये हैं, जो सिय्योन पर्वत पर रहता है।

Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

कुछ लोग कहा करते हैं, “भविष्य बतानेवालों और जादूगरों से पूछो, क्या करना है” (ये भविष्य बताने वाले और जादूगर फुस—फुसाकर बोलते हैं। ये लोगों पर यह प्रभाव डालने के लिये कि उनके पास अर्न्तदृष्टि हैं, वे चुपचाप बातें करते हैं।) किन्तु मैं तुम्हें बताता हूँ कि लोगों को अपने परमेश्वर से सहायता माँगनी चाहिये! वे भविष्य बताने वाले और जादूगर मरे हुए लोगों से पूछ कर बताते हैं कि क्या करना चाहिये किन्तु भला जीवित लोग मरे हुओं से कोई बात क्यों पूछें।

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

तुम्हें शिक्षाओं और वाचा के अनुसार चलना चाहिये। यदि तुम इन आज्ञाओं का पालन नहीं करोगे तो हो सकता है तुम गलत आज्ञाओं का पालन करने लगो। (ये गलत आज्ञाएँ वे हैं जो जादूगरों और भविष्य बताने वालों के द्वारा मिलती है। ये आज्ञाएँ बेकार हैं। उन आज्ञाओं पर चल कर तुम्हें कुछ नहीं मिलेगा।)

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

यदि तुम उन गलत आज्ञाओं पर चलोगे, तो तुम्हारे देश पर विपत्ति आयेगी और भूखमरी फैलेगी। लोग भूखे मरेंगे। फिर वे क्रोधित होंगे और अपने राजा और अपने देवताओं के विरुद्ध बातें कहेंगे। इसके बाद वे सहायता के लिये परमेश्वर की ओर निहारेंगे।

And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

यदि अपने देश में वे चारों तरफ देखेंगे तो उन्हें चारों ओर विपत्ति और चिन्ता जनक अन्धेरा ही दिखाई देगा। लोगों का वह अंधकारमय दु:ख उन्हें देश छोड़ने पर विवश करेगा और वे लोग जो उस अन्धेरे में फँसे होंगे, अपने आपको उससे मुक्त नहीं करा पायेंगे।

And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.
