Acts 18

پس از این پولس آتن را ترک كرد و رهسپار قرنتس شد

After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

و در آنجا با مردی یهودی به نام اكیلا كه از اهالی پنطس بود آشنا شد. اكیلا به همراه همسر خود پرسكله تازه از ایتالیا به قرنتس آمده بود، زیرا كلودیوس قیصر حاكم كرده بود كه همهٔ یهودیان از روم بیرون بروند. پولس پیش آنان رفت

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

و چون مانند ایشان کارش خیمه‌دوزی بود، همان‌جا ماند و با هم كار می‌کردند.

And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

او همچنین در روزهای سبت در كنیسه صحبت می‌کرد و می‌کوشید كه یهودیان و یونانیان را متقاعد سازد.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

وقتی‌که سیلاس و تیموتاؤس از مقدونیه آمدند پولس همهٔ وقت خود را وقف اعلام پیام خدا نمود و برای یهودیان دلیل می‌آورد كه عیسی همان مسیح موعود است.

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

و امّا چون عدّه‌ای از یهودیان با او مخالفت و نسبت به او بد زبانی می‌‌نمودند، او دامن ردای خود را تكان داد و به ایشان گفت: «خون شما به گردن خودتان است. من از آن مبرّا هستم و از این پس پیش غیر یهودیان خواهم رفت.»

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

پس آنان را ترک كرد و برای اقامت به خانهٔ یک غیر یهودی به نام تیتوس یوستس كه مردی خداپرست بود رفت. خانهٔ او در جنب كنیسهٔ یهودیان واقع بود.

And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

كرسپس كه سرپرست كنیسه بود در این موقع با تمام اهل خانه‌اش به خداوند ایمان آورد. به‌علاوه، بسیاری از اهالی قرنتس كه به پیام خدا گوش می‌دادند، ایمان آوردند و تعمید گرفتند.

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

یک شب خداوند در رؤیا به پولس گفت: «هیچ واهمه‌ای نداشته باش، به تعالیم خود ادامه بده و دست از كار بر ندار.

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

زیرا من با تو هستم و هیچ‌کس قادر نخواهد بود به تو آزاری برساند و در این شهر افراد بسیاری هستند كه متعلّق به من می‌باشند.»

For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

به این سبب پولس مدّت یک سال و شش ماه در آنجا ماند و كلام خدا را به ایشان تعلیم می‌داد.

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

امّا هنگامی‌که غالیون به سمت فرماندار رومی در یونان مأمور خدمت شد، یهودیان دسته جمعی بر سر پولس ریخته او را به دادگاه كشیدند

And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

و گفتند: «این شخص مردم را وامی دارد كه خدا را با روشهایی كه برخلاف قانون است پرستش نمایند.»

Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

پولس هنوز حرفی نزده بود كه غالیون خطاب به یهودیان گفت: «ای یهودیان، اگر جرم و جنایتی در بین باشد، البتّه باید به ادّعاهای شما گوش بدهم.

And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

امّا چون این مسائل مربوط به كلمات و عناوین و القاب و شریعت خودتان می‌باشد، باید خودتان آن را حل و فصل نمایید. من مایل نیستم در چنین اموری قضاوت كنم.»

But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

سپس آنان را از دادگاه بیرون كرد.

And he drave them from the judgment seat.

در این موقع آنها سوستانیس را كه سرپرست كنیسه بود گرفتند و در جلوی مسند قاضی كتک زدند، امّا غالیون توجّهی به این جریان نداشت.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

پولس مدّتی در آنجا ماند و سرانجام با ایماندارن خداحافظی كرد و با كشتی عازم سوریه شد و پرسكله و اكیلا را هم با خود برد. در شهر كنخریه پولس نذر كرده سر خود را تراشید.

And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

وقتی آنها به افسس رسیدند، پولس از همسفران خود جدا شد و به تنهایی به كنیسه رفت و با یهودیان به مباحثه پرداخت.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

از او خواهش كردند كه بیشتر آنجا بماند امّا او قبول نكرد.

When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

او از ایشان خداحافظی كرد و گفت: «اگر خدا بخواهد، باز پیش شما بر می‌‌گردم» و افسس را ترک كرد.

But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

وقتی به ساحل قیصریه رسید به اورشلیم رفت و پس از سلام و احوالپرسی با اهل كلیسا به طرف انطاكیه حركت كرد.

And when he had landed at Cæsarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

پس از اینكه مدّتی در آنجا اقامت كرد بار دیگر به راه افتاد و در سرزمینهای غلاطیه و فریجیه می‌گشت و شاگردان را تقویت می‌کرد.

And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

در این هنگام مردی یهودی به نام آپولس كه متولّد اسكندریه بود به افسس آمد. او ناطقی فصیح و به کتاب‌مقدّس وارد بود.

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

و در طریق خداوند تربیت یافته و پر از شور و شوق روحانی بود. او حقایق زندگانی عیسی را بدرستی تعلیم می‌داد اگرچه فقط از تعمید یحیی آگاهی داشت.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

او در كنیسه بدون ترس و واهمه شروع به سخن گفتن كرد و در آنجا بود كه پرسكله و اكیلا سخنان او را شنیدند و او را پیش خود آوردند و طریقهٔ الهی را با تفصیل بیشتری برایش شرح دادند.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

وقتی می‌‌خواست به یونان سفر كند ایمانداران از او حمایت كردند و به ایمانداران در آن سرزمین نوشتند كه با گرمی از او استقبال نمایند و او از موقع ورود خود به آنجا به کسانی‌که از راه فیض الهی ایمان آورده بودند، یاری بسیار نمود؛

And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

زیرا در مقابل همه با كوشش بسیار بی‌اساس بودن ادّعاهای یهودیان را ثابت می‌کرد و با استفاده از کتاب‌مقدّس دلیل می‌آورد كه عیسی، همان مسیح موعود است.

For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
