Judges 1

یشوع کی موت کے بعد اسرائیلیوں نے رب سے پوچھا، ”کون سا قبیلہ پہلے نکل کر کنعانیوں پر حملہ کرے؟“

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

رب نے جواب دیا، ”یہوداہ کا قبیلہ شروع کرے۔ مَیں نے ملک کو اُن کے قبضے میں کر دیا ہے۔“

And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

تب یہوداہ کے قبیلے نے اپنے بھائیوں شمعون کے قبیلے سے کہا، ”آئیں، ہمارے ساتھ نکلیں تاکہ ہم مل کر کنعانیوں کو اُس علاقے سے نکال دیں جو قرعہ نے یہوداہ کے قبیلے کے لئے مقرر کیا ہے۔ اِس کے بدلے ہم بعد میں آپ کی مدد کریں گے جب آپ اپنے علاقے پر قبضہ کرنے کے لئے نکلیں گے۔“ چنانچہ شمعون کے مرد یہوداہ کے ساتھ نکلے۔

And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

جب یہوداہ نے دشمن پر حملہ کیا تو رب نے کنعانیوں اور فرِزّیوں کو اُس کے قابو میں کر دیا۔ بزق کے پاس اُنہوں نے اُنہیں شکست دی، گو اُن کے کُل 10,000 آدمی تھے۔

And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

وہاں اُن کا مقابلہ ایک بادشاہ سے ہوا جس کا نام ادونی بزق تھا۔ جب اُس نے دیکھا کہ کنعانی اور فرِزّی ہار گئے ہیں

And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

تو وہ فرار ہوا۔ لیکن اسرائیلیوں نے اُس کا تعاقب کر کے اُسے پکڑ لیا اور اُس کے ہاتھوں اور پیروں کے انگوٹھوں کو کاٹ لیا۔

But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

تب ادونی بزق نے کہا، ”مَیں نے خود ستر بادشاہوں کے ہاتھوں اور پیروں کے انگوٹھوں کو کٹوایا، اور اُنہیں میری میز کے نیچے گرے ہوئے کھانے کے ردی ٹکڑے جمع کرنے پڑے۔ اب اللہ مجھے اِس کا بدلہ دے رہا ہے۔“ اُسے یروشلم لایا گیا جہاں وہ مر گیا۔

And Adoni–bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

یہوداہ کے مردوں نے یروشلم پر بھی حملہ کیا۔ اُس پر فتح پا کر اُنہوں نے اُس کے باشندوں کو تلوار سے مار ڈالا اور شہر کو جلا دیا۔

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

اِس کے بعد وہ آگے بڑھ کر اُن کنعانیوں سے لڑنے لگے جو پہاڑی علاقے، دشتِ نجب اور مغرب کے نشیبی پہاڑی علاقے میں رہتے تھے۔

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

اُنہوں نے حبرون شہر پر حملہ کیا جو پہلے قِریَت اربع کہلاتا تھا۔ وہاں اُنہوں نے سیسی، اخی مان اور تلمی کی فوجوں کو شکست دی۔

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

پھر وہ آگے دبیر کے باشندوں سے لڑنے چلے گئے۔ دبیر کا پرانا نام قِریَت سِفر تھا۔

And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath–sepher:

کالب نے کہا، ”جو قِریَت سِفر پر فتح پا کر قبضہ کرے گا اُس کے ساتھ مَیں اپنی بیٹی عکسہ کا رشتہ باندھوں گا۔“

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath–sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

کالب کے چھوٹے بھائی غُتنی ایل بن قنز نے شہر پر قبضہ کر لیا۔ چنانچہ کالب نے اُس کے ساتھ اپنی بیٹی عکسہ کی شادی کر دی۔

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

جب عکسہ غُتنی ایل کے ہاں جا رہی تھی تو اُس نے اُسے اُبھارا کہ وہ کالب سے کوئی کھیت پانے کی درخواست کرے۔ اچانک وہ گدھے سے اُتر گئی۔ کالب نے پوچھا، ”کیا بات ہے؟“

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

عکسہ نے جواب دیا، ”جہیز کے لئے مجھے ایک چیز سے نوازیں۔ آپ نے مجھے دشتِ نجب میں زمین دے دی ہے۔ اب مجھے چشمے بھی دے دیجئے۔“ چنانچہ کالب نے اُسے اپنی ملکیت میں سے اوپر اور نیچے والے چشمے بھی دے دیئے۔

And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

جب یہوداہ کا قبیلہ کھجوروں کے شہر سے روانہ ہوا تھا تو قینی بھی اُن کے ساتھ یہوداہ کے ریگستان میں آئے تھے۔ (قینی موسیٰ کے سُسر یترو کی اولاد تھے)۔ وہاں وہ دشتِ نجب میں عراد شہر کے قریب دوسرے لوگوں کے درمیان ہی آباد ہوئے۔

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

یہوداہ کا قبیلہ اپنے بھائیوں شمعون کے قبیلے کے ساتھ آگے بڑھا۔ اُنہوں نے کنعانی شہر صِفت پر حملہ کیا اور اُسے اللہ کے لئے مخصوص کر کے مکمل طور پر تباہ کر دیا۔ اِس لئے اُس کا نام حُرمہ یعنی اللہ کے لئے تباہی پڑا۔

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

پھر یہوداہ کے فوجیوں نے غزہ، اسقلون اور عقرون کے شہروں پر اُن کے گرد و نواح کی آبادیوں سمیت فتح پائی۔

Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

رب اُن کے ساتھ تھا، اِس لئے وہ پہاڑی علاقے پر قبضہ کر سکے۔ لیکن وہ سمندر کے ساتھ کے میدانی علاقے میں آباد لوگوں کو نکال نہ سکے۔ وجہ یہ تھی کہ اِن لوگوں کے پاس لوہے کے رتھ تھے۔

And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

موسیٰ کے وعدے کے مطابق کالب کو حبرون شہر مل گیا۔ اُس نے اُس میں سے عناق کے تین بیٹوں کو اُن کے گھرانوں سمیت نکال دیا۔

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

لیکن بن یمین کا قبیلہ یروشلم کے رہنے والے یبوسیوں کو نکال نہ سکا۔ آج تک یبوسی وہاں بن یمینیوں کے ساتھ آباد ہیں۔

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

افرائیم اور منسّی کے قبیلے بیت ایل پر قبضہ کرنے کے لئے نکلے (بیت ایل کا پرانا نام لُوز تھا)۔ جب اُنہوں نے اپنے جاسوسوں کو شہر کی تفتیش کرنے کے لئے بھیجا تو رب اُن کے ساتھ تھا۔

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the LORD was with them.

افرائیم اور منسّی کے قبیلے بیت ایل پر قبضہ کرنے کے لئے نکلے (بیت ایل کا پرانا نام لُوز تھا)۔ جب اُنہوں نے اپنے جاسوسوں کو شہر کی تفتیش کرنے کے لئے بھیجا تو رب اُن کے ساتھ تھا۔

And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth–el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

اُن کے جاسوسوں کی ملاقات ایک آدمی سے ہوئی جو شہر سے نکل رہا تھا۔ اُنہوں نے اُس سے کہا، ”ہمیں شہر میں داخل ہونے کا راستہ دکھائیں تو ہم آپ پر رحم کریں گے۔“

And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

اُس نے اُنہیں اندر جانے کا راستہ دکھایا، اور اُنہوں نے اُس میں گھس کر تمام باشندوں کو تلوار سے مار ڈالا سوائے مذکورہ آدمی اور اُس کے خاندان کے۔

And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

بعد میں وہ حِتّیوں کے ملک میں گیا جہاں اُس نے ایک شہر تعمیر کر کے اُس کا نام لُوز رکھا۔ یہ نام آج تک رائج ہے۔

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

لیکن منسّی نے ہر شہر کے باشندے نہ نکالے۔ بیت شان، تعنک، دور، اِبلیعام، مجِدّو اور اُن کے گرد و نواح کی آبادیاں رہ گئیں۔ کنعانی پورے عزم کے ساتھ اُن میں ٹکے رہے۔

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

بعد میں جب اسرائیل کی طاقت بڑھ گئی تو اِن کنعانیوں کو بیگار میں کام کرنا پڑا۔ لیکن اسرائیلیوں نے اُس وقت بھی اُنہیں ملک سے نہ نکالا۔

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

اِسی طرح افرائیم کے قبیلے نے بھی جزر کے باشندوں کو نہ نکالا، اور یہ کنعانی اُن کے درمیان آباد رہے۔

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

زبولون کے قبیلے نے بھی قطرون اور نہلال کے باشندوں کو نہ نکالا بلکہ یہ اُن کے درمیان آباد رہے، البتہ اُنہیں بیگار میں کام کرنا پڑا۔

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

آشر کے قبیلے نے نہ عکّو کے باشندوں کو نکالا، نہ صیدا، احلاب، اکزیب، حلبہ، افیق یا رحوب کے باشندوں کو۔

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

اِس وجہ سے آشر کے لوگ کنعانی باشندوں کے درمیان رہنے لگے۔

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

نفتالی کے قبیلے نے بیت شمس اور بیت عنات کے باشندوں کو نہ نکالا بلکہ وہ بھی کنعانیوں کے درمیان رہنے لگے۔ لیکن بیت شمس اور بیت عنات کے باشندوں کو بیگار میں کام کرنا پڑا۔

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributaries unto them.

دان کے قبیلے نے میدانی علاقے پر قبضہ کرنے کی کوشش تو کی، لیکن اموریوں نے اُنہیں آنے نہ دیا بلکہ پہاڑی علاقے تک محدود رکھا۔

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

اموری پورے عزم کے ساتھ حرِس پہاڑ، ایالون اور سعلبیم میں ٹکے رہے۔ لیکن جب افرائیم اور منسّی کی طاقت بڑھ گئی تو اموریوں کو بیگار میں کام کرنا پڑا۔

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

اموریوں کی سرحد درۂ عقربیم سے لے کر سلع سے پرے تک تھی۔

And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
