Judges 8

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

لیکن افرائیم کے مردوں نے شکایت کی، ”آپ نے ہم سے کیسا سلوک کیا؟ آپ نے ہمیں کیوں نہیں بُلایا جب مِدیان سے لڑنے گئے؟“ ایسی باتیں کرتے کرتے اُنہوں نے جدعون کے ساتھ سخت بحث کی۔

And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi–ezer?

لیکن جدعون نے جواب دیا، ”کیا آپ مجھ سے کہیں زیادہ کامیاب نہ ہوئے؟ اور جو انگور فصل جمع کرنے کے بعد افرائیم کے باغوں میں رہ جاتے ہیں کیا وہ میرے چھوٹے خاندان ابی عزر کی پوری فصل سے زیادہ نہیں ہوتے؟

God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

اللہ نے تو مِدیان کے سرداروں عوریب اور زئیب کو آپ کے حوالے کر دیا۔ اِس کی نسبت مجھ سے کیا کامیابی حاصل ہوئی ہے؟“ یہ سن کر افرائیم کے مردوں کا غصہ ٹھنڈا ہو گیا۔

And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

جدعون اپنے 300 مردوں سمیت دریائے یردن کو پار کر چکا تھا۔ دشمن کا تعاقب کرتے کرتے وہ تھک گئے تھے۔

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

اِس لئے جدعون نے قریب کے شہر سُکات کے باشندوں سے گزارش کی، ”میرے فوجیوں کو کچھ روٹی دے دیں۔ وہ تھک گئے ہیں، کیونکہ ہم مِدیانی سردار زبح اور ضلمُنّع کا تعاقب کر رہے ہیں۔“

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

لیکن سُکات کے بزرگوں نے جواب دیا، ”ہم آپ کے فوجیوں کو روٹی کیوں دیں؟ کیا آپ زبح اور ضلمُنّع کو پکڑ چکے ہیں کہ ہم ایسا کریں؟“

And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

یہ سن کر جدعون نے کہا، ”جوں ہی رب اِن دو سرداروں زبح اور ضلمُنّع کو میرے ہاتھ میں کر دے گا مَیں تم کو ریگستان کی کانٹےدار جھاڑیوں اور اونٹ کٹاروں سے گاہ کر تباہ کر دوں گا۔“

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

وہ آگے نکل کر فنوایل شہر پہنچ گیا۔ وہاں بھی اُس نے روٹی مانگی، لیکن فنوایل کے باشندوں نے سُکات کا سا جواب دیا۔

And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

یہ سن کر اُس نے کہا، ”جب مَیں سلامتی سے واپس آؤں گا تو تمہارا یہ بُرج گرا دوں گا!“

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

اب زبح اور ضلمُنّع قرقور پہنچ گئے تھے۔ 15,000 افراد اُن کے ساتھ رہ گئے تھے، کیونکہ مشرقی اتحادیوں کے 1,20,000 تلواروں سے لیس فوجی ہلاک ہو گئے تھے۔

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

جدعون نے مِدیانیوں کے پیچھے چلتے ہوئے خانہ بدوشوں کا وہ راستہ استعمال کیا جو نوبح اور یگبہا کے مشرق میں ہے۔ اِس طریقے سے اُس نے اُن کی لشکرگاہ پر اُس وقت حملہ کیا جب وہ اپنے آپ کو محفوظ سمجھ رہے تھے۔

And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

دشمن میں افرا تفری پیدا ہوئی اور زبح اور ضلمُنّع فرار ہو گئے۔ لیکن جدعون نے اُن کا تعاقب کرتے کرتے اُنہیں پکڑ لیا۔

And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

اِس کے بعد جدعون لوٹا۔ وہ ابھی حرِس کے درہ سے اُتر رہا تھا

And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

کہ سُکات کے ایک جوان آدمی سے ملا۔ جدعون نے اُسے پکڑ کر مجبور کیا کہ وہ شہر کے راہنماؤں اور بزرگوں کی فہرست لکھ کر دے۔ 77 بزرگ تھے۔

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

جدعون اُن کے پاس گیا اور کہا، ”دیکھو، یہ ہیں زبح اور ضلمُنّع! تم نے اِن ہی کی وجہ سے میرا مذاق اُڑا کر کہا تھا کہ ہم آپ کے تھکے ہارے فوجیوں کو روٹی کیوں دیں؟ کیا آپ زبح اور ضلمُنّع کو پکڑ چکے ہیں کہ ہم ایسا کریں؟“

And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

پھر جدعون نے شہر کے بزرگوں کو گرفتار کر کے اُنہیں کانٹےدار جھاڑیوں اور اونٹ کٹاروں سے گاہ کر سبق سکھایا۔

And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

پھر وہ فنوایل گیا اور وہاں کا بُرج گرا کر شہر کے مردوں کو مار ڈالا۔

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

اِس کے بعد جدعون زبح اور ضلمُنّع سے مخاطب ہوا۔ اُس نے پوچھا، ”اُن آدمیوں کا حُلیہ کیسا تھا جنہیں تم نے تبور پہاڑ پر قتل کیا؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”وہ آپ جیسے تھے، ہر ایک شہزادہ لگ رہا تھا۔“

And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

جدعون بولا، ”وہ میرے سگے بھائی تھے۔ رب کی حیات کی قَسم، اگر تم اُن کو زندہ چھوڑتے تو مَیں تمہیں ہلاک نہ کرتا۔“

And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

پھر وہ اپنے پہلوٹھے یتر سے مخاطب ہو کر بولا، ”اِن کو مار ڈالو!“ لیکن یتر اپنی تلوار میان سے نکالنے سے جھجکا، کیونکہ وہ ابھی بچہ تھا اور ڈرتا تھا۔

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

تب زبح اور ضلمُنّع نے کہا، ”آپ ہی ہمیں مار دیں! کیونکہ جیسا آدمی ویسی اُس کی طاقت!“ جدعون نے کھڑے ہو کر اُنہیں تلوار سے مار ڈالا اور اُن کے اونٹوں کی گردنوں پر لگے تعویذ اُتار کر اپنے پاس رکھے۔

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

اسرائیلیوں نے جدعون کے پاس آ کر کہا، ”آپ نے ہمیں مِدیانیوں سے بچا لیا ہے، اِس لئے ہم پر حکومت کریں، آپ، آپ کے بعد آپ کا بیٹا اور اُس کے بعد آپ کا پوتا۔“

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

لیکن جدعون نے جواب دیا، ”نہ مَیں آپ پر حکومت کروں گا، نہ میرا بیٹا۔ رب ہی آپ پر حکومت کرے گا۔

And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

میری صرف ایک گزارش ہے۔ ہر ایک مجھے اپنے لُوٹے ہوئے مال میں سے ایک ایک بالی دے دے۔“ بات یہ تھی کہ دشمن کے تمام افراد نے سونے کی بالیاں پہن رکھی تھیں، کیونکہ وہ اسماعیلی تھے۔

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

اسرائیلیوں نے کہا، ”ہم خوشی سے بالی دیں گے۔“ ایک چادر زمین پر بچھا کر ہر ایک نے ایک ایک بالی اُس پر پھینک دی۔

And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

سونے کی اِن بالیوں کا وزن تقریباً 20 کلو گرام تھا۔ اِس کے علاوہ اسرائیلیوں نے مختلف تعویذ، کان کے آویزے، ارغوانی رنگ کے شاہی لباس اور اونٹوں کی گردنوں میں لگی قیمتی زنجیریں بھی دے دیں۔

And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

اِس سونے سے جدعون نے ایک افود بنا کر اُسے اپنے آبائی شہر عُفرہ میں کھڑا کیا جہاں وہ اُس کے اور تمام خاندان کے لئے پھندا بن گیا۔ نہ صرف یہ بلکہ پورا اسرائیل زنا کر کے بُت کی پوجا کرنے لگا۔

Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

اُس وقت مِدیان نے ایسی شکست کھائی کہ بعد میں اسرائیل کے لئے خطرے کا باعث نہ رہا۔ اور جتنی دیر جدعون زندہ رہا یعنی 40 سال تک ملک میں امن و امان قائم رہا۔

And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

جنگ کے بعد جدعون بن یوآس دوبارہ عُفرہ میں رہنے لگا۔

And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

اُس کی بہت سی بیویاں اور 70 بیٹے تھے۔

And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

اُس کی ایک داشتہ بھی تھی جو سِکم شہر میں رہائش پذیر تھی اور جس کے ایک بیٹا پیدا ہوا۔ جدعون نے بیٹے کا نام ابی مَلِک رکھا۔

And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi–ezrites.

جدعون عمر رسیدہ تھا جب فوت ہوا۔ اُسے ابی عزریوں کے شہر عُفرہ میں اُس کے باپ یوآس کی قبر میں دفنایا گیا۔

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal–berith their god.

جدعون کے مرتے ہی اسرائیلی دوبارہ زنا کر کے بعل کے بُتوں کی پوجا کرنے لگے۔ وہ بعل بریت کو اپنا خاص دیوتا بنا کر

And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

رب اپنے خدا کو بھول گئے جس نے اُنہیں ارد گرد کے دشمنوں سے بچا لیا تھا۔

Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

اُنہوں نے یرُبعل یعنی جدعون کے خاندان کو بھی اُس احسان کے لئے کوئی مہربانی نہ دکھائی جو جدعون نے اُن پر کیا تھا۔
