Jonah 2

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

مچھلی کے پیٹ میں یونس نے رب اپنے خدا سے ذیل کی دعا کی،

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

”مَیں نے بڑی مصیبت میں آ کر رب سے التجا کی، اور اُس نے مجھے جواب دیا۔ مَیں نے پاتال کی گہرائیوں سے چیخ کر فریاد کی تو تُو نے میری سنی۔

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

تُو نے مجھے گہرے پانی بلکہ سمندر کے بیچ میں ہی پھینک دیا۔ پانی کے زوردار بہاؤ نے مجھے گھیر لیا، تیری تمام لہریں اور موجیں مجھ پر سے گزر گئیں۔

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

تب مَیں بولا، ’مجھے تیرے حضور سے خارج کر دیا گیا ہے، لیکن مَیں تیرے مُقدّس گھر کی طرف تکتا رہوں گا۔‘

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

پانی میرے گلے تک پہنچ گیا، سمندر کی گہرائیوں نے مجھے چھپا لیا۔ میرے سر سے سمندری پودے لپٹ گئے۔

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

پانی میں اُترتے اُترتے مَیں پہاڑوں کی بنیادوں تک پہنچ گیا۔ مَیں زمین میں دھنس کر ایک ایسے ملک میں آ گیا جس کے دروازے ہمیشہ کے لئے میرے پیچھے بند ہو گئے۔ لیکن اے رب، میرے خدا، تُو ہی میری جان کو گڑھے سے نکال لایا!

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

جب میری جان نکلنے لگی تو تُو، اے رب مجھے یاد آیا، اور میری دعا تیرے مُقدّس گھر میں تیرے حضور پہنچی۔

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

جو بُتوں کی پوجا کرتے ہیں اُنہوں نے اللہ سے وفادار رہنے کا وعدہ توڑ دیا ہے۔

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

لیکن مَیں شکرگزاری کے گیت گاتے ہوئے تجھے قربانی پیش کروں گا۔ جو مَنت مَیں نے مانی اُسے پورا کروں گا۔ رب ہی نجات دیتا ہے۔“

And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

تب رب نے مچھلی کو حکم دیا کہ وہ یونس کو خشکی پر اُگل دے۔
