Jonah 3

And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

رب ایک بار پھر یونس سے ہم کلام ہوا،

Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

”بڑے شہر نینوہ جا کر اُسے وہ پیغام سنا دے جو مَیں تجھے دوں گا۔“

So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

اِس مرتبہ یونس رب کی سن کر نینوہ کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔ رب کے نزدیک نینوہ اہم شہر تھا۔ اُس میں سے گزرنے کے لئے تین دن درکار تھے۔

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

پہلے دن یونس شہر میں داخل ہوا اور چلتے چلتے لوگوں کو پیغام سنانے لگا، ”عین 40 دن کے بعد نینوہ تباہ ہو جائے گا۔“

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

یہ سن کر نینوہ کے باشندے اللہ پر ایمان لائے۔ اُنہوں نے روزے کا اعلان کیا، اور چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک سب ٹاٹ اوڑھ کر ماتم کرنے لگے۔

For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

جب یونس کا پیغام نینوہ کے بادشاہ تک پہنچا تو اُس نے تخت پر سے اُتر کر اپنے شاہی کپڑوں کو اُتار دیا اور ٹاٹ اوڑھ کر خاک میں بیٹھ گیا۔

And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

اُس نے شہر میں اعلان کیا، ”بادشاہ اور اُس کے شرفا کا فرمان سنو! کسی کو بھی کھانے یا پینے کی اجازت نہیں۔ گائےبَیل اور بھیڑبکریوں سمیت تمام جانور بھی اِس میں شامل ہیں۔ نہ اُنہیں چرنے دو، نہ پانی پینے دو۔

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

لازم ہے کہ سب لوگ جانوروں سمیت ٹاٹ اوڑھ لیں۔ ہر ایک پورے زور سے اللہ سے التجا کرے، ہر ایک اپنی بُری راہوں اور اپنے ظلم و تشدد سے باز آئے۔

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

کیا معلوم، شاید اللہ پچھتائے۔ شاید اُس کا شدید غضب ٹل جائے اور ہم ہلاک نہ ہوں۔“

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

جب اللہ نے اُن کا یہ رویہ دیکھا، کہ وہ واقعی اپنی بُری راہوں سے باز آئے تو وہ پچھتایا اور اُن پر وہ آفت نہ لایا جس کا اعلان اُس نے کیا تھا۔
