Ezra 4

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

یہوداہ اور بن یمین کے دشمنوں کو پتا چلا کہ وطن میں واپس آئے ہوئے اسرائیلی رب اسرائیل کے خدا کے لئے گھر تعمیر کر رہے ہیں۔

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar–haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

زرُبابل اور خاندانی سرپرستوں کے پاس آ کر اُنہوں نے درخواست کی، ”ہم بھی آپ کے ساتھ مل کر رب کے گھر کو تعمیر کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔ کیونکہ جب سے اسور کے بادشاہ اسرحدون نے ہمیں یہاں لا کر بسایا ہے اُس وقت سے ہم آپ کے خدا کے طالب رہے اور اُسے قربانیاں پیش کرتے آئے ہیں۔“

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

لیکن زرُبابل، یشوع اور اسرائیل کے باقی خاندانی سرپرستوں نے انکار کیا، ”نہیں، اِس میں آپ کا ہمارے ساتھ کوئی واسطہ نہیں۔ ہم اکیلے ہی رب اسرائیل کے خدا کے لئے گھر بنائیں گے، جس طرح فارس کے بادشاہ خورس نے ہمیں حکم دیا ہے۔“

Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

یہ سن کر ملک کی دوسری قومیں یہوداہ کے لوگوں کی حوصلہ شکنی اور اُنہیں ڈرانے کی کوشش کرنے لگیں تاکہ وہ عمارت بنانے سے باز آئیں۔

And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

یہاں تک کہ وہ فارس کے بادشاہ خورس کے کچھ مشیروں کو رشوت دے کر کام روکنے میں کامیاب ہو گئے۔ یوں رب کے گھر کی تعمیر خورس بادشاہ کے دورِ حکومت سے لے کر دارا بادشاہ کی حکومت تک رُکی رہی۔

And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

بعد میں جب اخسویرس بادشاہ کی حکومت شروع ہوئی تو اسرائیل کے دشمنوں نے یہوداہ اور یروشلم کے باشندوں پر الزام لگا کر شکایتی خط لکھا۔

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

پھر ارتخشستا بادشاہ کے دورِ حکومت میں اُسے یہوداہ کے دشمنوں کی طرف سے شکایتی خط بھیجا گیا۔ خط کے پیچھے خاص کر بِشلام، مِتردات اور طابئیل تھے۔ پہلے اُسے اَرامی زبان میں لکھا گیا، اور بعد میں اُس کا ترجمہ ہوا۔

Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

سامریہ کے گورنر رحوم اور اُس کے میرمنشی شمسی نے شہنشاہ کو خط لکھ دیا جس میں اُنہوں نے یروشلم پر الزامات لگائے۔ پتے میں لکھا تھا،

Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

از: رحوم گورنر اور میرمنشی شمسی، نیز اُن کے ہم خدمت قاضی، سفیر اور طرپل، سِپّر، ارک، بابل اور سوسن یعنی عیلام کے مرد،

And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

نیز باقی تمام قومیں جن کو عظیم اور عزیز بادشاہ اشور بنی پال نے اُٹھا کر سامریہ اور دریائے فرات کے باقی ماندہ مغربی علاقے میں بسا دیا تھا۔

This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

خط میں لکھا تھا، ”شہنشاہ ارتخشستا کے نام، از: آپ کے خادم جو دریائے فرات کے مغرب میں رہتے ہیں۔

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

شہنشاہ کو علم ہو کہ جو یہودی آپ کے حضور سے ہمارے پاس یروشلم پہنچے ہیں وہ اِس وقت اُس باغی اور شریر شہر کو نئے سرے سے تعمیر کر رہے ہیں۔ وہ فصیل کو بحال کر کے بنیادوں کی مرمت کر رہے ہیں۔

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

شہنشاہ کو علم ہو کہ اگر شہر نئے سرے سے تعمیر ہو جائے اور اُس کی فصیل تکمیل تک پہنچے تو یہ لوگ ٹیکس، خراج اور محصول ادا کرنے سے انکار کر دیں گے۔ تب بادشاہ کو نقصان پہنچے گا۔

Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

ہم تو نمک حرام نہیں ہیں، نہ شہنشاہ کی توہین برداشت کر سکتے ہیں۔ اِس لئے ہم گزارش کرتے ہیں

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

کہ آپ اپنے باپ دادا کی تاریخی دستاویزات سے یروشلم کے بارے میں معلومات حاصل کریں، کیونکہ اُن میں اِس بات کی تصدیق ملے گی کہ یہ شہر ماضی میں سرکش رہا۔ حقیقت میں شہر کو اِسی لئے تباہ کیا گیا کہ وہ بادشاہوں اور صوبوں کو تنگ کرتا رہا اور قدیم زمانے سے ہی بغاوت کا منبع رہا ہے۔

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

غرض ہم شہنشاہ کو اطلاع دیتے ہیں کہ اگر یروشلم کو دوبارہ تعمیر کیا جائے اور اُس کی فصیل تکمیل تک پہنچے تو دریائے فرات کے مغربی علاقے پر آپ کا قابو جاتا رہے گا۔“

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

شہنشاہ نے جواب میں لکھا، ”مَیں یہ خط رحوم گورنر، شمسی میرمنشی اور سامریہ اور دریائے فرات کے مغرب میں رہنے والے اُن کے ہم خدمت افسروں کو لکھ رہا ہوں۔ آپ کو سلام!

The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

آپ کے خط کا ترجمہ میری موجودگی میں ہوا ہے اور اُسے میرے سامنے پڑھا گیا ہے۔

And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

میرے حکم پر یروشلم کے بارے میں معلومات حاصل کی گئی ہیں۔ معلوم ہوا کہ واقعی یہ شہر قدیم زمانے سے بادشاہوں کی مخالفت کر کے سرکشی اور بغاوت کا منبع رہا ہے۔

There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

نیز، یروشلم طاقت ور بادشاہوں کا دار الحکومت رہا ہے۔ اُن کی اِتنی طاقت تھی کہ دریائے فرات کے پورے مغر بی علاقے کو اُنہیں مختلف قسم کے ٹیکس اور خراج ادا کرنا پڑا۔

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

چنانچہ اب حکم دیں کہ یہ آدمی شہر کی تعمیر کرنے سے باز آئیں۔ جب تک مَیں خود حکم نہ دوں اُس وقت تک شہر کو نئے سرے سے تعمیر کرنے کی اجازت نہیں ہے۔

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

دھیان دیں کہ اِس حکم کی تکمیل میں سُستی نہ کی جائے، ایسا نہ ہو کہ شہنشاہ کو بڑا نقصان پہنچے۔“

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

جوں ہی خط کی کاپی رحوم، شمسی اور اُن کے ہم خدمت افسروں کو پڑھ کر سنائی گئی تو وہ یروشلم کے لئے روانہ ہوئے اور یہودیوں کو زبردستی کام جاری رکھنے سے روک دیا۔

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

چنانچہ یروشلم میں اللہ کے گھر کا تعمیری کام رُک گیا، اور وہ فارس کے بادشاہ دارا کی حکومت کے دوسرے سال تک رُکا رہا۔
