Ecclesiastes 9

For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.

اِن تمام باتوں پر مَیں نے دل سے غور کیا۔ اِن کے معائنے کے بعد مَیں نے نتیجہ نکالا کہ راست باز اور دانش مند اور جو کچھ وہ کریں اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہیں۔ خواہ محبت ہو خواہ نفرت، اِس کی بھی سمجھ انسان کو نہیں آتی، دونوں کی جڑیں اُس سے پہلے ماضی میں ہیں۔

All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

سب کے نصیب میں ایک ہی انجام ہے، راست باز اور بےدین کے، نیک اور بد کے، پاک اور ناپاک کے، قربانیاں پیش کرنے والے کے اور اُس کے جو کچھ نہیں پیش کرتا۔ اچھے شخص اور گناہ گار کا ایک ہی انجام ہے، حلف اُٹھانے والے اور اِس سے ڈر کر گریز کرنے والے کی ایک ہی منزل ہے۔

This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

سورج تلے ہر کام کی یہی مصیبت ہے کہ ہر ایک کے نصیب میں ایک ہی انجام ہے۔ انسان کا ملاحظہ کر۔ اُس کا دل بُرائی سے بھرا رہتا بلکہ عمر بھر اُس کے دل میں بےہودگی رہتی ہے۔ لیکن آخرکار اُسے مُردوں میں ہی جا ملنا ہے۔

For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

جو اب تک زندوں میں شریک ہے اُسے اُمید ہے۔ کیونکہ زندہ کُتے کا حال مُردہ شیر سے بہتر ہے۔

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

کم از کم جو زندہ ہیں وہ جانتے ہیں کہ ہم مریں گے۔ لیکن مُردے کچھ نہیں جانتے، اُنہیں مزید کوئی اجر نہیں ملنا ہے۔ اُن کی یادیں بھی مٹ جاتی ہیں۔

Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

اُن کی محبت، نفرت اور غیرت سب کچھ بڑی دیر سے جاتی رہی ہے۔ اب وہ کبھی بھی اُن کاموں میں حصہ نہیں لیں گے جو سورج تلے ہوتے ہیں۔

Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

چنانچہ جا کر اپنا کھانا خوشی کے ساتھ کھا، اپنی مَے زندہ دلی سے پی، کیونکہ اللہ کافی دیر سے تیرے کاموں سے خوش ہے۔

Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.

تیرے کپڑے ہر وقت سفید ہوں، تیرا سر تیل سے محروم نہ رہے۔

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

اپنے جیون ساتھی کے ساتھ جو تجھے پیارا ہے زندگی کے مزے لیتا رہ۔ سورج تلے کی باطل زندگی کے جتنے دن اللہ نے تجھے بخش دیئے ہیں اُنہیں اِسی طرح گزار! کیونکہ زندگی میں اور سورج تلے تیری محنت مشقت میں یہی کچھ تیرے نصیب میں ہے۔

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

جس کام کو بھی ہاتھ لگائے اُسے پورے جوش و خروش سے کر، کیونکہ پاتال میں جہاں تُو جا رہا ہے نہ کوئی کام ہے، نہ منصوبہ، نہ علم اور نہ حکمت۔

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

مَیں نے سورج تلے مزید کچھ دیکھا۔ یقینی بات نہیں کہ مقابلے میں سب سے تیز دوڑنے والا جیت جائے، کہ جنگ میں پہلوان فتح پائے، کہ دانش مند کو خوراک حاصل ہو، کہ سمجھ دار کو دولت ملے یا کہ عالِم منظوری پائے۔ نہیں، سب کچھ موقع اور اتفاق پر منحصر ہوتا ہے۔

For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

نیز، کوئی بھی انسان نہیں جانتا کہ مصیبت کا وقت کب اُس پر آئے گا۔ جس طرح مچھلیاں ظالم جال میں اُلجھ جاتی یا پرندے پھندے میں پھنس جاتے ہیں اُسی طرح انسان مصیبت میں پھنس جاتا ہے۔ مصیبت اچانک ہی اُس پر آ جاتی ہے۔

This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:

سورج تلے مَیں نے حکمت کی ایک اَور مثال دیکھی جو مجھے اہم لگی۔

There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:

کہیں کوئی چھوٹا شہر تھا جس میں تھوڑے سے افراد بستے تھے۔ ایک دن ایک طاقت ور بادشاہ اُس سے لڑنے آیا۔ اُس نے اُس کا محاصرہ کیا اور اِس مقصد سے اُس کے ارد گرد بڑے بڑے بُرج کھڑے کئے۔

Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

شہر میں ایک آدمی رہتا تھا جو دانش مند البتہ غریب تھا۔ اِس شخص نے اپنی حکمت سے شہر کو بچا لیا۔ لیکن بعد میں کسی نے بھی غریب کو یاد نہ کیا۔

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

یہ دیکھ کر مَیں بولا، ”حکمت طاقت سے بہتر ہے،“ لیکن غریب کی حکمت حقیر جانی جاتی ہے۔ کوئی بھی اُس کی باتوں پر دھیان نہیں دیتا۔

The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.

دانش مند کی جو باتیں آرام سے سنی جائیں وہ احمقوں کے درمیان رہنے والے حکمران کے زوردار اعلانات سے کہیں بہتر ہیں۔

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

حکمت جنگ کے ہتھیاروں سے بہتر ہے، لیکن ایک ہی گناہ گار بہت کچھ جو اچھا ہے تباہ کرتا ہے۔
