Ecclesiastes 8

Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

کون دانش مند کی مانند ہے؟ کون باتوں کی صحیح تشریح کرنے کا علم رکھتا ہے؟ حکمت انسان کا چہرہ روشن اور اُس کے منہ کا سخت انداز نرم کر دیتی ہے۔

I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.

مَیں کہتا ہوں، بادشاہ کے حکم پر چل، کیونکہ تُو نے اللہ کے سامنے حلف اُٹھایا ہے۔

Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.

بادشاہ کے حضور سے دُور ہونے میں جلدبازی نہ کر۔ کسی بُرے معاملے میں مبتلا نہ ہو جا، کیونکہ اُسی کی مرضی چلتی ہے۔

Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?

بادشاہ کے فرمان کے پیچھے اُس کا اختیار ہے، اِس لئے کون اُس سے پوچھے، ”تُو کیا کر رہا ہے؟“

Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.

جو اُس کے حکم پر چلے اُس کا کسی بُرے معاملے سے واسطہ نہیں پڑے گا، کیونکہ دانش مند دل مناسب وقت اور انصاف کی راہ جانتا ہے۔

Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

کیونکہ ہر معاملے کے لئے مناسب وقت اور انصاف کی راہ ہوتی ہے۔ لیکن مصیبت انسان کو دبائے رکھتی ہے،

For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?

کیونکہ وہ نہیں جانتا کہ مستقبل کیسا ہو گا۔ کوئی اُسے یہ نہیں بتا سکتا ہے۔

There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

کوئی بھی انسان ہَوا کو بند رکھنے کے قابل نہیں ۔ اِسی طرح کسی کو بھی اپنی موت کا دن مقرر کرنے کا اختیار نہیں۔ یہ اُتنا یقینی ہے جتنا یہ کہ فوجیوں کو جنگ کے دوران فارغ نہیں کیا جاتا اور بےدینی بےدین کو نہیں بچاتی۔

All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

مَیں نے یہ سب کچھ دیکھا جب پورے دل سے اُن تمام باتوں پر دھیان دیا جو سورج تلے ہوتی ہیں، جہاں اِس وقت ایک آدمی دوسرے کو نقصان پہنچانے کا اختیار رکھتا ہے۔

And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

پھر مَیں نے دیکھا کہ بےدینوں کو عزت کے ساتھ دفنایا گیا۔ یہ لوگ مقدِس کے پاس آتے جاتے تھے! لیکن جو راست باز تھے اُن کی یاد شہر میں مٹ گئی۔ یہ بھی باطل ہی ہے۔

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

مجرموں کو جلدی سے سزا نہیں دی جاتی، اِس لئے لوگوں کے دل بُرے کام کرنے کے منصوبوں سے بھر جاتے ہیں۔

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

گناہ گار سے سَو گناہ سرزد ہوتے ہیں، توبھی عمر رسیدہ ہو جاتا ہے۔ بےشک مَیں یہ بھی جانتا ہوں کہ خدا ترس لوگوں کی خیر ہو گی، اُن کی جو اللہ کے چہرے سے ڈرتے ہیں۔

But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

بےدین کی خیر نہیں ہو گی، کیونکہ وہ اللہ کا خوف نہیں مانتا۔ اُس کی زندگی کے دن زیادہ نہیں بلکہ سائے جیسے عارضی ہوں گے۔

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

توبھی ایک اَور بات دنیا میں پیش آتی ہے جو باطل ہے، راست بازوں کو وہ سزا ملتی ہے جو بےدینوں کو ملنی چاہئے، اور بےدینوں کو وہ اجر ملتا ہے جو راست بازوں کو ملنا چاہئے۔ یہ دیکھ کر مَیں بولا، ”یہ بھی باطل ہی ہے۔“

Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

چنانچہ مَیں نے خوشی کی تعریف کی، کیونکہ سورج تلے انسان کے لئے اِس سے بہتر کچھ نہیں ہے کہ وہ کھائے پیئے اور خوش رہے۔ پھر محنت مشقت کرتے وقت خوشی اُتنے ہی دن اُس کے ساتھ رہے گی جتنے اللہ نے سورج تلے اُس کے لئے مقرر کئے ہیں۔

When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)

مَیں نے اپنی پوری ذہنی طاقت اِس پر لگائی کہ حکمت جان لوں اور زمین پر انسان کی محنتوں کا معائنہ کر لوں، ایسی محنتیں کہ اُسے دن رات نیند نہیں آتی۔

Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.

تب مَیں نے اللہ کا سارا کام دیکھ کر جان لیا کہ انسان اُس تمام کام کی تہہ تک نہیں پہنچ سکتا جو سورج تلے ہوتا ہے۔ خواہ وہ اُس کی کتنی تحقیق کیوں نہ کرے توبھی وہ تہہ تک نہیں پہنچ سکتا۔ ہو سکتا ہے کوئی دانش مند دعویٰ کرے، ”مجھے اِس کی پوری سمجھ آئی ہے،“ لیکن ایسا نہیں ہے، وہ تہہ تک نہیں پہنچ سکتا۔
