Deuteronomy 25

If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

اگر لوگ اپنا ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ جھگڑا خود نپٹا نہ سکیں تو وہ اپنا معاملہ عدالت میں پیش کریں۔ قاضی فیصلہ کرے کہ کون بےقصور ہے اور کون مجرم۔

And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

اگر مجرم کو کوڑے لگانے کی سزا دینی ہے تو اُسے قاضی کے سامنے ہی منہ کے بل زمین پر لٹانا۔ پھر اُسے اِتنے کوڑے لگائے جائیں جتنوں کے وہ لائق ہے۔

Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

لیکن اُس کو زیادہ سے زیادہ 40 کوڑے لگانے ہیں، ورنہ تیرے اسرائیلی بھائی کی سرِعام بےعزتی ہو جائے گی۔

Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.

جب تُو فصل گاہنے کے لئے اُس پر بَیل چلنے دیتا ہے تو اُس کا منہ باندھ کر نہ رکھنا۔

If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.

اگر کوئی شادی شدہ مرد بےاولاد مر جائے اور اُس کا سگا بھائی ساتھ رہے تو اُس کا فرض ہے کہ بیوہ سے شادی کرے۔ بیوہ شوہر کے خاندان سے ہٹ کر کسی اَور سے شادی نہ کرے بلکہ صرف اپنے دیور سے۔

And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

پہلا بیٹا جو اِس رشتے سے پیدا ہو گا پہلے شوہر کے بیٹے کی حیثیت رکھے گا۔ یوں اُس کا نام قائم رہے گا۔

And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.

لیکن اگر دیور بھابی سے شادی کرنا نہ چاہے تو بھابی شہر کے دروازے پر جمع ہونے والے بزرگوں کے پاس جائے اور اُن سے کہے، ”میرا دیور مجھ سے شادی کرنے سے انکار کرتا ہے۔ وہ اپنا فرض ادا کرنے کو تیار نہیں کہ اپنے بھائی کا نام قائم رکھے۔“

Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;

پھر شہر کے بزرگ دیور کو بُلا کر اُسے سمجھائیں۔ اگر وہ اِس کے باوجود بھی اُس سے شادی کرنے سے انکار کرے

Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.

تو اُس کی بھابی بزرگوں کی موجودگی میں اُس کے پاس جا کر اُس کی ایک چپل اُتار لے۔ پھر وہ اُس کے منہ پر تھوک کر کہے، ”اُس آدمی سے ایسا سلوک کیا جاتا ہے جو اپنے بھائی کی نسل قائم رکھنے کو تیار نہیں۔“

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

آئندہ اسرائیل میں دیور کی نسل ”ننگے پاؤں والے کی نسل“ کہلائے گی۔

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

اگر دو آدمی لڑ رہے ہوں اور ایک کی بیوی اپنے شوہر کو بچانے کی خاطر مخالف کے عضوِ تناسل کو پکڑ لے

Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

تو لازم ہے کہ تُو عورت کا ہاتھ کاٹ ڈالے۔ اُس پر رحم نہ کرنا۔

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

تولتے وقت اپنے تھیلے میں صحیح وزن کے باٹ رکھ، اور دھوکا دینے کے لئے ہلکے باٹ ساتھ نہ رکھنا۔

Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

اِسی طرح اپنے گھر میں اناج کی پیمائش کرنے کا صحیح برتن رکھ، اور دھوکا دینے کے لئے چھوٹا برتن ساتھ نہ رکھنا۔

But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

صحیح وزن کے باٹ اور پیمائش کرنے کے صحیح برتن استعمال کرنا تاکہ تُو دیر تک اُس ملک میں جیتا رہے جو رب تیرا خدا تجھے دے گا۔

For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

کیونکہ اُسے ہر دھوکے باز سے گھن ہے۔

Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;

یاد رہے کہ عمالیقیوں نے تجھ سے کیا کچھ کیا جب تم مصر سے نکل کر سفر کر رہے تھے۔

How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.

جب تُو تھکا ہارا تھا تو وہ تجھ پر حملہ کر کے پیچھے پیچھے چلنے والے تمام کمزوروں کو جان سے مارتے رہے۔ وہ اللہ کا خوف نہیں مانتے تھے۔

Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.

چنانچہ جب رب تیرا خدا تجھے ارد گرد کے تمام دشمنوں سے سکون دے گا اور تُو اُس ملک میں آباد ہو گا جو وہ تجھے میراث میں دے رہا ہے تاکہ تُو اُس پر قبضہ کرے تو عمالیقیوں کو یوں ہلاک کر کہ دنیا میں اُن کا نام و نشان نہ رہے۔ یہ بات مت بھولنا۔
