II Samuel 17

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

اخی تُفل نے ابی سلوم کو ایک اَور مشورہ بھی دیا۔ ”مجھے اجازت دیں تو مَیں 12,000 فوجیوں کے ساتھ اِسی رات داؤد کا تعاقب کروں۔

And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:

مَیں اُس پر حملہ کروں گا جب وہ تھکاماندہ اور بےدل ہے۔ تب وہ گھبرا جائے گا، اور اُس کے تمام فوجی بھاگ جائیں گے۔ نتیجتاً مَیں صرف بادشاہ ہی کو مار دوں گا

And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

اور باقی تمام لوگوں کو آپ کے پاس واپس لاؤں گا۔ جو آدمی آپ پکڑنا چاہتے ہیں اُس کی موت پر سب واپس آ جائیں گے۔ اور قوم میں امن و امان قائم ہو جائے گا۔“

And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

یہ مشورہ ابی سلوم اور اسرائیل کے تمام بزرگوں کو پسند آیا۔

Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

تاہم ابی سلوم نے کہا، ”پہلے ہم حوسی ارکی سے بھی مشورہ لیں۔ کوئی اُسے بُلا لائے۔“

And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.

حوسی آیا تو ابی سلوم نے اُس کے سامنے اخی تُفل کا منصوبہ بیان کر کے پوچھا، ”آپ کا کیا خیال ہے؟ کیا ہمیں ایسا کرنا چاہئے، یا آپ کی کوئی اَور رائے ہے؟“

And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.

حوسی نے جواب دیا، ”جو مشورہ اخی تُفل نے دیا ہے وہ اِس دفعہ ٹھیک نہیں۔

For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

آپ تو اپنے والد اور اُن کے آدمیوں سے واقف ہیں۔ وہ سب ماہر فوجی ہیں۔ وہ اُس ریچھنی کی سی شدت سے لڑیں گے جس سے اُس کے بچے چھین لئے گئے ہیں۔ یہ بھی ذہن میں رکھنا چاہئے کہ آپ کا باپ تجربہ کار فوجی ہے۔ امکان نہیں کہ وہ رات کو اپنے فوجیوں کے درمیان گزارے گا۔

Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

غالباً وہ اِس وقت بھی گہری کھائی یا کہیں اَور چھپ گیا ہے۔ ہو سکتا ہے وہ وہاں سے نکل کر آپ کے دستوں پر حملہ کرے اور ابتدا ہی میں آپ کے تھوڑے بہت افراد مر جائیں۔ پھر افواہ پھیل جائے گی کہ ابی سلوم کے دستوں میں قتلِ عام شروع ہو گیا ہے۔

And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

یہ سن کر آپ کے تمام افراد ڈر کے مارے بےدل ہو جائیں گے، خواہ وہ شیرببر جیسے بہادر کیوں نہ ہوں۔ کیونکہ تمام اسرائیل جانتا ہے کہ آپ کا باپ بہترین فوجی ہے اور کہ اُس کے ساتھی بھی دلیر ہیں۔

Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

یہ پیشِ نظر رکھ کر مَیں آپ کو ایک اَور مشورہ دیتا ہوں۔ شمال میں دان سے لے کر جنوب میں بیرسبع تک لڑنے کے قابل تمام اسرائیلیوں کو بُلائیں۔ اِتنے جمع کریں کہ وہ ساحل کی ریت کی مانند ہوں گے، اور آپ خود اُن کے آگے چل کر لڑنے کے لئے نکلیں۔

So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.

پھر ہم داؤد کا کھوج لگا کر اُس پر حملہ کریں گے۔ ہم اُس طرح اُس پر ٹوٹ پڑیں گے جس طرح اوس زمین پر گرتی ہے۔ سب کے سب ہلاک ہو جائیں گے، اور نہ وہ اور نہ اُس کے آدمی بچ پائیں گے۔

Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

اگر داؤد کسی شہر میں پناہ لے تو تمام اسرائیلی فصیل کے ساتھ رسّے لگا کر پورے شہر کو وادی میں گھسیٹ لے جائیں گے۔ پتھر پر پتھر باقی نہیں رہے گا!“

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

ابی سلوم اور تمام اسرائیلیوں نے کہا، ”حوسی کا مشورہ اخی تُفل کے مشورے سے بہتر ہے۔“ حقیقت میں اخی تُفل کا مشورہ کہیں بہتر تھا، لیکن رب نے اُسے ناکام ہونے دیا تاکہ ابی سلوم کو مصیبت میں ڈالے۔

Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.

حوسی نے دونوں اماموں صدوق اور ابیاتر کو وہ منصوبہ بتایا جو اخی تُفل نے ابی سلوم اور اسرائیل کے بزرگوں کو پیش کیا تھا۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے اُنہیں اپنے مشورے کے بارے میں بھی آگاہ کیا۔

Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.

اُس نے کہا، ”اب فوراً داؤد کو اطلاع دیں کہ کسی صورت میں بھی اِس رات کو دریائے یردن کی اُس جگہ پر نہ گزاریں جہاں لوگ دریا کو پار کرتے ہیں۔ لازم ہے کہ آپ آج ہی دریا کو عبور کر لیں، ورنہ آپ تمام ساتھیوں سمیت برباد ہو جائیں گے۔“

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En–rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.

یونتن اور اخی معض یروشلم سے باہر کے چشمے عین راجل کے پاس انتظار کر رہے تھے، کیونکہ وہ شہر میں داخل ہو کر کسی کو نظر آنے کا خطرہ مول نہیں لے سکتے تھے۔ ایک نوکرانی شہر سے نکل آئی اور اُنہیں حوسی کا پیغام دے دیا تاکہ وہ آگے نکل کر اُسے داؤد تک پہنچائیں۔

Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.

لیکن ایک جوان نے اُنہیں دیکھا اور بھاگ کر ابی سلوم کو اطلاع دی۔ دونوں جلدی جلدی وہاں سے چلے گئے اور ایک آدمی کے گھر میں چھپ گئے جو بحوریم میں رہتا تھا۔ اُس کے صحن میں کنواں تھا۔ اُس میں وہ اُتر گئے۔

And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.

آدمی کی بیوی نے کنوئیں کے منہ پر کپڑا بچھا کر اُس پر اناج کے دانے بکھیر دیئے تاکہ کسی کو معلوم نہ ہو کہ وہاں کنواں ہے۔

And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

ابی سلوم کے سپاہی اُس گھر میں پہنچے اور عورت سے پوچھنے لگے، ”اخی معض اور یونتن کہاں ہیں؟“ عورت نے جواب دیا، ”وہ آگے نکل چکے ہیں، کیونکہ وہ ندی کو پار کرنا چاہتے تھے۔“ سپاہی دونوں آدمیوں کا کھوج لگاتے لگاتے تھک گئے۔ آخرکار وہ خالی ہاتھ یروشلم لوٹ گئے۔

And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

جب چلے گئے تو اخی معض اور یونتن کنوئیں سے نکل کر سیدھے داؤد بادشاہ کے پاس چلے گئے تاکہ اُسے پیغام سنائیں۔ اُنہوں نے کہا، ”لازم ہے کہ آپ دریا کو فوراً پار کریں!“ پھر اُنہوں نے داؤد کو اخی تُفل کا پورا منصوبہ بتایا۔

Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.

داؤد اور اُس کے تمام ساتھی جلد ہی روانہ ہوئے اور اُسی رات دریائے یردن کو عبور کیا۔ پَو پھٹتے وقت ایک بھی پیچھے نہیں رہ گیا تھا۔

And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

جب اخی تُفل نے دیکھا کہ میرا مشورہ رد کیا گیا ہے تو وہ اپنے گدھے پر زِین کس کر اپنے وطنی شہر واپس چلا گیا۔ وہاں اُس نے گھر کے تمام معاملات کا بندوبست کیا، پھر جا کر پھانسی لے لی۔ اُسے اُس کے باپ کی قبر میں دفنایا گیا۔

Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

جب داؤد محنائم پہنچ گیا تو ابی سلوم اسرائیلی فوج کے ساتھ دریائے یردن کو پار کرنے لگا۔

And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.

اُس نے عماسا کو فوج پر مقرر کیا تھا، کیونکہ یوآب تو داؤد کے ساتھ تھا۔ عماسا ایک اسماعیلی بنام اِترا کا بیٹا تھا۔ اُس کی ماں ابی جیل بنت ناحس تھی، اور وہ یوآب کی ماں ضرویاہ کی بہن تھی۔

So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.

ابی سلوم اور اُس کے ساتھیوں نے ملکِ جِلعاد میں پڑاؤ ڈالا۔

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo–debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

جب داؤد محنائم پہنچا تو تین آدمیوں نے اُس کا استقبال کیا۔ سوبی بن ناحس عمونیوں کے دار الحکومت ربّہ سے، مکیر بن عمی ایل لو دبار سے اور برزلی جِلعادی راجلیم سے آئے۔

Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,

تینوں نے داؤد اور اُس کے لوگوں کو بستر، باسن، مٹی کے برتن، گندم، جَو، میدہ، اناج کے بُھنے ہوئے دانے، لوبیا، مسور،

And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

شہد، دہی، بھیڑبکریاں اور گائے کے دودھ کا پنیر مہیا کیا۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے سوچا، ”یہ لوگ ریگستان میں چلتے چلتے ضرور بھوکے، پیاسے اور تھکے ماندے ہو گئے ہوں گے۔“
