II Kings 6

And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

ایک دن کچھ نبی الیشع کے پاس آ کر شکایت کرنے لگے، ”جس تنگ جگہ پر ہم آپ کے پاس آ کر ٹھہرے ہیں اُس میں ہمارے لئے رہنا مشکل ہے۔

Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

کیوں نہ ہم دریائے یردن پر جائیں اور ہر آدمی وہاں سے شہتیر لے آئے تاکہ ہم رہنے کی نئی جگہ بنا سکیں۔“ الیشع بولا، ”ٹھیک ہے، جائیں۔“

And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

کسی نے گزارش کی، ”براہِ کرم ہمارے ساتھ چلیں۔“ نبی راضی ہو کر

So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

اُن کے ساتھ روانہ ہوا۔ دریائے یردن کے پاس پہنچتے ہی وہ درخت کاٹنے لگے۔

But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

کاٹتے کاٹتے اچانک کسی کی کلہاڑی کا لوہا پانی میں گر گیا۔ وہ چلّا اُٹھا، ”ہائے میرے آقا! یہ میرا نہیں تھا، مَیں نے تو اُسے کسی سے اُدھار لیا تھا۔“

And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

الیشع نے سوال کیا، ”لوہا کہاں پانی میں گرا؟“ آدمی نے اُسے جگہ دکھائی تو نبی نے کسی درخت سے شاخ کاٹ کر پانی میں پھینک دی۔ اچانک لوہا پانی کی سطح پر آ کر تیرنے لگا۔

Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

الیشع بولا، ”اِسے پانی سے نکال لو!“ آدمی نے اپنا ہاتھ بڑھا کر لوہے کو پکڑ لیا۔

Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

شام اور اسرائیل کے درمیان جنگ تھی۔ جب کبھی بادشاہ اپنے افسروں سے مشورہ کر کے کہتا، ”ہم فلاں فلاں جگہ اپنی لشکرگاہ لگا لیں گے“

And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

تو فوراً مردِ خدا اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کو آگاہ کرتا، ”فلاں جگہ سے مت گزرنا، کیونکہ شام کے فوجی وہاں گھات میں بیٹھے ہیں۔“

And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

تب اسرائیل کا بادشاہ اپنے لوگوں کو مذکورہ جگہ پر بھیجتا اور وہاں سے گزرنے سے محتاط رہتا تھا۔ ایسا نہ صرف ایک یا دو دفعہ بلکہ کئی مرتبہ ہوا۔

Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

آخرکار شام کے بادشاہ نے بہت رنجیدہ ہو کر اپنے افسروں کو بُلایا اور پوچھا، ”کیا کوئی مجھے بتا سکتا ہے کہ ہم میں سے کون اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کا ساتھ دیتا ہے؟“

And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

کسی افسر نے جواب دیا، ”میرے آقا اور بادشاہ، ہم میں سے کوئی نہیں ہے۔ مسئلہ یہ ہے کہ اسرائیل کا نبی الیشع اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کو وہ باتیں بھی بتا دیتا ہے جو آپ اپنے سونے کے کمرے میں بیان کرتے ہیں۔“

And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

بادشاہ نے حکم دیا، ”جائیں، اُس کا پتا کریں تاکہ ہم اپنے فوجیوں کو بھیج کر اُسے پکڑ لیں۔“ بادشاہ کو اطلاع دی گئی کہ الیشع دوتین نامی شہر میں ہے۔

Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

اُس نے فوراً ایک بڑی فوج رتھوں اور گھوڑوں سمیت وہاں بھیج دی۔ اُنہوں نے رات کے وقت پہنچ کر شہر کو گھیر لیا۔

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

جب الیشع کا نوکر صبح سویرے جاگ اُٹھا اور گھر سے نکلا تو کیا دیکھتا ہے کہ پورا شہر ایک بڑی فوج سے گھرا ہوا ہے جس میں رتھ اور گھوڑے بھی شامل ہیں۔ اُس نے الیشع سے کہا، ”ہائے میرے آقا، ہم کیا کریں؟“

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

لیکن الیشع نے اُسے تسلی دی، ”ڈرو مت! جو ہمارے ساتھ ہیں وہ اُن کی نسبت کہیں زیادہ ہیں جو دشمن کے ساتھ ہیں۔“

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

پھر اُس نے دعا کی، ”اے رب، نوکر کی آنکھیں کھول تاکہ وہ دیکھ سکے۔“ رب نے الیشع کے نوکر کی آنکھیں کھول دیں تو اُس نے دیکھا کہ پہاڑ پر الیشع کے ارد گرد آتشیں گھوڑے اور رتھ پھیلے ہوئے ہیں۔

And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

جب دشمن الیشع کی طرف بڑھنے لگا تو اُس نے دعا کی، ”اے رب، اِن کو اندھا کر دے!“ رب نے الیشع کی سنی اور اُنہیں اندھا کر دیا۔

And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

پھر الیشع اُن کے پاس گیا اور کہا، ”یہ راستہ صحیح نہیں۔ آپ غلط شہر کے پاس پہنچ گئے ہیں۔ میرے پیچھے ہو لیں تو مَیں آپ کو اُس آدمی کے پاس پہنچا دوں گا جسے آپ ڈھونڈ رہے ہیں۔“ یہ کہہ کر وہ اُنہیں سامریہ لے گیا۔

And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

جب وہ شہر میں داخل ہوئے تو الیشع نے دعا کی، ”اے رب، فوجیوں کی آنکھیں کھول دے تاکہ وہ دیکھ سکیں۔“ تب رب نے اُن کی آنکھیں کھول دیں، اور اُنہیں معلوم ہوا کہ ہم سامریہ میں پھنس گئے ہیں۔

And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

جب اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نے اپنے دشمنوں کو دیکھا تو اُس نے الیشع سے پوچھا، ”میرے باپ، کیا مَیں اُنہیں مار دوں؟ کیا مَیں اُنہیں مار دوں؟“

And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

لیکن الیشع نے منع کیا، ”ایسا مت کریں۔ کیا آپ اپنے جنگی قیدیوں کو مار دیتے ہیں؟ نہیں، اُنہیں کھانا کھلائیں، پانی پلائیں اور پھر اُن کے مالک کے پاس واپس بھیج دیں۔“

And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

چنانچہ بادشاہ نے اُن کے لئے بڑی ضیافت کا اہتمام کیا اور کھانے پینے سے فارغ ہونے پر اُنہیں اُن کے مالک کے پاس واپس بھیج دیا۔ اِس کے بعد اسرائیل پر شام کی طرف سے لُوٹ مار کے چھاپے بند ہو گئے۔

And it came to pass after this, that Ben–hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

کچھ دیر کے بعد شام کا بادشاہ بن ہدد اپنی پوری فوج جمع کر کے اسرائیل پر چڑھ آیا اور سامریہ کا محاصرہ کیا۔

And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

نتیجے میں شہر میں شدید کال پڑا۔ آخر میں گدھے کا سر چاندی کے 80 سِکوں میں اور کبوتر کی مٹھی بھر بیٹ چاندی کے 5 سِکوں میں ملتی تھی۔

And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

ایک دن اسرائیل کا بادشاہ یورام شہر کی فصیل پر سیر کر رہا تھا تو ایک عورت نے اُس سے التماس کی، ”اے میرے آقا اور بادشاہ، میری مدد کیجئے۔“

And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

بادشاہ نے جواب دیا، ”اگر رب آپ کی مدد نہیں کرتا تو مَیں کس طرح آپ کی مدد کروں؟ نہ مَیں گاہنے کی جگہ جا کر آپ کو اناج دے سکتا ہوں، نہ انگور کا رس نکالنے کی جگہ جا کر آپ کو رس پہنچا سکتا ہوں۔

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

پھر بھی مجھے بتائیں، مسئلہ کیا ہے؟“ عورت بولی، ”اِس عورت نے مجھ سے کہا تھا، ’آئیں، آج آپ اپنے بیٹے کو قربان کریں تاکہ ہم اُسے کھا لیں، تو پھر کل ہم میرے بیٹے کو کھا لیں گے۔‘

So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

چنانچہ ہم نے میرے بیٹے کو پکا کر کھا لیا۔ اگلے دن مَیں نے اُس سے کہا، ’اب اپنے بیٹے کو دے دیں تاکہ اُسے بھی کھا لیں۔‘ لیکن اُس نے اُسے چھپائے رکھا۔“

And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

یہ سن کر بادشاہ نے رنجش کے مارے اپنے کپڑے پھاڑ ڈالے۔ چونکہ وہ ابھی تک فصیل پر کھڑا تھا اِس لئے سب لوگوں کو نظر آیا کہ کپڑوں کے نیچے وہ ٹاٹ پہنے ہوئے تھا۔

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

اُس نے پکارا، ”اللہ مجھے سخت سزا دے اگر مَیں الیشع بن سافط کا آج ہی سر قلم نہ کروں!“

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

اُس نے ایک آدمی کو الیشع کے پاس بھیجا اور خود بھی اُس کے پیچھے چل پڑا۔ الیشع اُس وقت گھر میں تھا، اور شہر کے بزرگ اُس کے پاس بیٹھے تھے۔ بادشاہ کا قاصد ابھی راستے میں تھا کہ الیشع بزرگوں سے کہنے لگا، ”اب دھیان کریں، اِس قاتل بادشاہ نے کسی کو میرا سر قلم کرنے کے لئے بھیج دیا ہے۔ اُسے اندر آنے نہ دیں بلکہ دروازے پر کنڈی لگائیں۔ اُس کے پیچھے پیچھے اُس کے مالک کے قدموں کی آہٹ بھی سنائی دے رہی ہے۔“

And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

الیشع ابھی بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ قاصد پہنچ گیا اور اُس کے پیچھے بادشاہ بھی۔ بادشاہ بولا، ”رب ہی نے ہمیں اِس مصیبت میں پھنسا دیا ہے۔ مَیں مزید اُس کی مدد کے انتظار میں کیوں رہوں؟“
