II Kings 5

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

اُس وقت شام کی فوج کا کمانڈر نعمان تھا۔ بادشاہ اُس کی بہت قدر کرتا تھا، اور دوسرے بھی اُس کی خاص عزت کرتے تھے، کیونکہ رب نے اُس کی معرفت شام کے دشمنوں پر فتح بخشی تھی۔ لیکن زبردست فوجی ہونے کے باوجود وہ سنگین جِلدی بیماری کا مریض تھا۔

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

نعمان کے گھر میں ایک اسرائیلی لڑکی رہتی تھی۔ کسی وقت جب شام کے فوجیوں نے اسرائیل پر چھاپہ مارا تھا تو وہ اُسے گرفتار کر کے یہاں لے آئے تھے۔ اب لڑکی نعمان کی بیوی کی خدمت کرتی تھی۔

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

ایک دن اُس نے اپنی مالکن سے بات کی، ”کاش میرا آقا اُس نبی سے ملنے جاتا جو سامریہ میں رہتا ہے۔ وہ اُسے ضرور شفا دیتا۔“

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

یہ سن کر نعمان نے بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر لڑکی کی بات دہرائی۔

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

بادشاہ بولا، ”ضرور جائیں اور اُس نبی سے ملیں۔ مَیں آپ کے ہاتھ اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کو سفارشی خط بھیج دوں گا۔“ چنانچہ نعمان روانہ ہوا۔ اُس کے پاس تقریباً 340 کلو گرام چاندی، 68 کلو گرام سونا اور 10 قیمتی سوٹ تھے۔

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

جو خط وہ ساتھ لے کر گیا اُس میں لکھا تھا، ”جو آدمی آپ کو یہ خط پہنچا رہا ہے وہ میرا خادم نعمان ہے۔ مَیں نے اُسے آپ کے پاس بھیجا ہے تاکہ آپ اُسے اُس کی جِلدی بیماری سے شفا دیں۔“

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

خط پڑھ کر یورام نے رنجش کے مارے اپنے کپڑے پھاڑے اور پکارا، ”اِس آدمی نے مریض کو میرے پاس بھیج دیا ہے تاکہ مَیں اُسے شفا دوں! کیا مَیں اللہ ہوں کہ کسی کو جان سے ماروں یا اُسے زندہ کروں؟ اب غور کریں اور دیکھیں کہ وہ کس طرح میرے ساتھ جھگڑنے کا موقع ڈھونڈ رہا ہے۔“

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

جب الیشع کو خبر ملی کہ بادشاہ نے گھبرا کر اپنے کپڑے پھاڑ لئے ہیں تو اُس نے یورام کو پیغام بھیجا، ”آپ نے اپنے کپڑے کیوں پھاڑ لئے؟ آدمی کو میرے پاس بھیج دیں تو وہ جان لے گا کہ اسرائیل میں نبی ہے۔“

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

تب نعمان اپنے رتھ پر سوار الیشع کے گھر کے دروازے پر پہنچ گیا۔

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

الیشع خود نہ نکلا بلکہ کسی کو باہر بھیج کر اطلاع دی، ”جا کر سات بار دریائے یردن میں نہا لیں۔ پھر آپ کے جسم کو شفا ملے گی اور آپ پاک صاف ہو جائیں گے۔“

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

یہ سن کر نعمان کو غصہ آیا اور وہ یہ کہہ کر چلا گیا، ”مَیں نے سوچا کہ وہ کم از کم باہر آ کر مجھ سے ملے گا۔ ہونا یہ چاہئے تھا کہ وہ میرے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر رب اپنے خدا کا نام پکارتا اور اپنا ہاتھ بیمار جگہ کے اوپر ہلا ہلا کر مجھے شفا دیتا۔

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

کیا دمشق کے دریا ابانہ اور فرفر تمام اسرائیلی دریاؤں سے بہتر نہیں ہیں؟ اگر نہانے کی ضرورت ہے تو مَیں کیوں نہ اُن میں نہا کر پاک صاف ہو جاؤں؟“ یوں بڑبڑاتے ہوئے وہ بڑے غصے میں چلا گیا۔

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

لیکن اُس کے ملازموں نے اُسے سمجھانے کی کوشش کی۔ ”ہمارے آقا، اگر نبی آپ سے کسی مشکل کام کا تقاضا کرتا تو کیا آپ وہ کرنے کے لئے تیار نہ ہوتے؟ اب جبکہ اُس نے صرف یہ کہا ہے کہ نہا کر پاک صاف ہو جائیں تو آپ کو یہ ضرور کرنا چاہئے۔“

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

آخرکار نعمان مان گیا اور یردن کی وادی میں اُتر گیا۔ دریا پر پہنچ کر اُس نے سات بار اُس میں ڈُبکی لگائی اور واقعی اُس کا جسم لڑکے کے جسم جیسا صحت مند اور پاک صاف ہو گیا۔

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

تب نعمان اپنے تمام ملازموں کے ساتھ مردِ خدا کے پاس واپس گیا۔ اُس کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر اُس نے کہا، ”اب مَیں جان گیا ہوں کہ اسرائیل کے خدا کے سوا پوری دنیا میں خدا نہیں ہے۔ ذرا اپنے خادم سے تحفہ قبول کریں۔“

But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

لیکن الیشع نے انکار کیا، ”رب کی حیات کی قَسم جس کی خدمت مَیں کرتا ہوں، مَیں کچھ نہیں لوں گا۔“ نعمان اصرار کرتا رہا، توبھی وہ کچھ لینے کے لئے تیار نہ ہوا۔

And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.

آخرکار نعمان مان گیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”ٹھیک ہے، لیکن مجھے ذرا ایک کام کرنے کی اجازت دیں۔ مَیں یہاں سے اِتنی مٹی اپنے گھر لے جانا چاہتا ہوں جتنی دو خچر اُٹھا کر لے جا سکتے ہیں۔ کیونکہ آئندہ مَیں اُس پر رب کو بھسم ہونے والی اور ذبح کی قربانیاں چڑھانا چاہتا ہوں۔ اب سے مَیں کسی اَور معبود کو قربانیاں پیش نہیں کروں گا۔

In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

لیکن رب مجھے ایک بات کے لئے معاف کرے۔ جب میرا بادشاہ پوجا کرنے کے لئے رِمّون کے مندر میں جاتا ہے تو میرے بازو کا سہارا لیتا ہے۔ یوں مجھے بھی اُس کے ساتھ جھک جانا پڑتا ہے جب وہ بُت کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک جاتا ہے۔ رب میری یہ حرکت معاف کر دے۔“

And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

الیشع نے جواب دیا، ”سلامتی سے جائیں۔“ نعمان روانہ ہوا

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

تو کچھ دیر کے بعد الیشع کا نوکر جیحازی سوچنے لگا، ”میرے آقا نے شام کے اِس بندے نعمان پر حد سے زیادہ نرم دلی کا اظہار کیا ہے۔ چاہئے تو تھا کہ وہ اُس کے تحفے قبول کر لیتا۔ رب کی حیات کی قَسم، مَیں اُس کے پیچھے دوڑ کر کچھ نہ کچھ اُس سے لے لوں گا۔“

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

چنانچہ جیحازی نعمان کے پیچھے بھاگا۔ جب نعمان نے اُسے دیکھا تو وہ رتھ سے اُتر کر جیحازی سے ملنے گیا اور پوچھا، ”کیا سب خیریت ہے؟“

And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

جیحازی نے جواب دیا، ”جی، سب خیریت ہے۔ میرے آقا نے مجھے آپ کو اطلاع دینے بھیجا ہے کہ ابھی ابھی نبیوں کے گروہ کے دو جوان افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے سے میرے پاس آئے ہیں۔ مہربانی کر کے اُنہیں 34 کلو گرام چاندی اور دو قیمتی سوٹ دے دیں۔“

And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

نعمان بولا، ”ضرور، بلکہ 68 کلو گرام چاندی لے لیں۔“ اِس بات پر وہ بضد رہا۔ اُس نے 68 کلو گرام چاندی بوریوں میں لپیٹ لی، دو سوٹ چن لئے اور سب کچھ اپنے دو نوکروں کو دے دیا تاکہ وہ سامان جیحازی کے آگے آگے لے چلیں۔

And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

جب وہ اُس پہاڑ کے دامن میں پہنچے جہاں الیشع رہتا تھا تو جیحازی نے سامان نوکروں سے لے کر اپنے گھر میں رکھ چھوڑا، پھر دونوں کو رُخصت کر دیا۔

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

پھر وہ جا کر الیشع کے سامنے کھڑا ہو گیا۔ الیشع نے پوچھا، ”جیحازی، تم کہاں سے آئے ہو؟“ اُس نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں کہیں نہیں گیا تھا۔“

And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

لیکن الیشع نے اعتراض کیا، ”کیا میری روح تمہارے ساتھ نہیں تھی جب نعمان اپنے رتھ سے اُتر کر تم سے ملنے آیا؟ کیا آج چاندی، کپڑے، زیتون اور انگور کے باغ، بھیڑبکریاں، گائےبَیل، نوکر اور نوکرانیاں حاصل کرنے کا وقت تھا؟

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

اب نعمان کی جِلدی بیماری ہمیشہ تک تمہیں اور تمہاری اولاد کو لگی رہے گی۔“ جب جیحازی کمرے سے نکلا تو جِلدی بیماری اُسے لگ چکی تھی۔ وہ برف کی طرح سفید ہو گیا تھا۔
