II Kings 7

Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

تب الیشع بولا، ”رب کا فرمان سنیں! رب فرماتا ہے کہ کل اِسی وقت شہر کے دروازے پر ساڑھے 5 کلو گرام بہترین میدہ اور 11 کلو گرام جَو چاندی کے ایک سِکے کے لئے بِکے گا۔“

Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

جس افسر کے بازو کا سہارا بادشاہ لیتا تھا وہ مردِ خدا کی بات سن کر بول اُٹھا، ”یہ ناممکن ہے، خواہ رب آسمان کے دریچے کیوں نہ کھول دے۔“ الیشع نے جواب دیا، ”آپ اپنی آنکھوں سے اِس کا مشاہدہ کریں گے، لیکن خود اُس میں سے کچھ نہ کھائیں گے۔“

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

شہر سے باہر دروازے کے قریب کوڑھ کے چار مریض بیٹھے تھے۔ اب یہ آدمی ایک دوسرے سے کہنے لگے، ”ہم یہاں بیٹھ کر موت کا انتظار کیوں کریں؟

If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

شہر میں کال ہے۔ اگر اُس میں جائیں تو بھوکے مر جائیں گے، لیکن یہاں رہنے سے بھی کوئی فرق نہیں پڑتا۔ تو کیوں نہ ہم شام کی لشکرگاہ میں جا کر اپنے آپ کو اُن کے حوالے کریں۔ اگر وہ ہمیں زندہ رہنے دیں تو اچھا رہے گا، اور اگر وہ ہمیں قتل بھی کر دیں تو کوئی فرق نہیں پڑے گا۔ یہاں رہ کر بھی ہمیں مرنا ہی ہے۔“

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

شام کے دُھندلکے میں وہ روانہ ہوئے۔ لیکن جب لشکرگاہ کے کنارے تک پہنچے تو ایک بھی آدمی نظر نہ آیا۔

For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

کیونکہ رب نے شام کے فوجیوں کو رتھوں، گھوڑوں اور ایک بڑی فوج کا شور سنا دیا تھا۔ وہ ایک دوسرے سے کہنے لگے، ”اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نے حِتّی اور مصری بادشاہوں کو اُجرت پر بُلایا تاکہ وہ ہم پر حملہ کریں!“

Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

ڈر کے مارے وہ شام کے دُھندلکے میں فرار ہو گئے تھے۔ اُن کے خیمے، گھوڑے، گدھے بلکہ پوری لشکرگاہ پیچھے رہ گئی تھی جبکہ وہ اپنی جان بچانے کے لئے بھاگ گئے تھے۔

And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

جب کوڑھی لشکرگاہ میں داخل ہوئے تو اُنہوں نے ایک خیمے میں جا کر جی بھر کر کھانا کھایا اور مَے پی۔ پھر اُنہوں نے سونا، چاندی اور کپڑے اُٹھا کر کہیں چھپا دیئے۔ وہ واپس آ کر کسی اَور خیمے میں گئے اور اُس کا سامان جمع کر کے اُسے بھی چھپا دیا۔

Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.

لیکن پھر وہ آپس میں کہنے لگے، ”جو کچھ ہم کر رہے ہیں ٹھیک نہیں۔ آج خوشی کا دن ہے، اور ہم یہ خوش خبری دوسروں تک نہیں پہنچا رہے۔ اگر ہم صبح تک انتظار کریں تو قصوروار ٹھہریں گے۔ آئیں، ہم فوراً واپس جا کر بادشاہ کے گھرانے کو اطلاع دیں۔“

So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

چنانچہ وہ شہر کے دروازے کے پاس گئے اور پہرے داروں کو آواز دے کر اُنہیں سب کچھ سنایا، ”ہم شام کی لشکرگاہ میں گئے تو وہاں نہ کوئی دکھائی دیا، نہ کسی کی آواز سنائی دی۔ گھوڑے اور گدھے بندھے ہوئے تھے اور خیمے ترتیب سے کھڑے تھے، لیکن آدمی ایک بھی موجود نہیں تھا!“

And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.

دروازے کے پہرے داروں نے آواز دے کر دوسروں کو خبر پہنچائی تو شہر کے اندر بادشاہ کے گھرانے کو اطلاع دی گئی۔

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

گو رات کا وقت تھا توبھی بادشاہ نے اُٹھ کر اپنے افسروں کو بُلایا اور کہا، ”مَیں آپ کو بتاتا ہوں کہ شام کے فوجی کیا کر رہے ہیں۔ وہ تو خوب جانتے ہیں کہ ہم بھوکوں مر رہے ہیں۔ اب وہ اپنی لشکرگاہ کو چھوڑ کر کھلے میدان میں چھپ گئے ہیں، کیونکہ وہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ اسرائیلی خالی لشکرگاہ کو دیکھ کر شہر سے ضرور نکلیں گے اور پھر ہم اُنہیں زندہ پکڑ کر شہر میں داخل ہو جائیں گے۔“

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

لیکن ایک افسر نے مشورہ دیا، ”بہتر ہے کہ ہم چند ایک آدمیوں کو پانچ بچے ہوئے گھوڑوں کے ساتھ لشکرگاہ میں بھیجیں۔ اگر وہ پکڑے جائیں تو کوئی بات نہیں۔ کیونکہ اگر وہ یہاں رہیں تو پھر بھی اُنہیں ہمارے ساتھ مرنا ہی ہے۔“

They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

چنانچہ دو رتھوں کو گھوڑوں سمیت تیار کیا گیا، اور بادشاہ نے اُنہیں شام کی لشکرگاہ میں بھیج دیا۔ رتھ بانوں کو اُس نے حکم دیا، ”جائیں اور پتا کریں کہ کیا ہوا ہے۔“

And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

وہ روانہ ہوئے اور شام کے فوجیوں کے پیچھے پیچھے چلنے لگے۔ راستے میں ہر طرف کپڑے اور سامان بکھرا پڑا تھا، کیونکہ فوجیوں نے بھاگتے بھاگتے سب کچھ پھینک کر راستے میں چھوڑ دیا تھا۔ اسرائیلی رتھ سوار دریائے یردن تک پہنچے اور پھر بادشاہ کے پاس واپس آ کر سب کچھ کہہ سنایا۔

And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

تب سامریہ کے باشندے شہر سے نکل آئے اور شام کی لشکرگاہ میں جا کر سب کچھ لُوٹ لیا۔ یوں وہ کچھ پورا ہوا جو رب نے فرمایا تھا کہ ساڑھے 5 کلو گرام بہترین میدہ اور 11 کلو گرام جَو چاندی کے ایک سِکے کے لئے بِکے گا۔

And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

جس افسر کے بازو کا سہارا بادشاہ لیتا تھا اُسے اُس نے دروازے کی نگرانی کرنے کے لئے بھیج دیا تھا۔ لیکن جب لوگ باہر نکلے تو افسر اُن کی زد میں آ کر اُن کے پیروں تلے کچلا گیا۔ یوں ویسا ہی ہوا جیسا مردِ خدا نے اُس وقت کہا تھا جب بادشاہ اُس کے گھر آیا تھا۔

And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

کیونکہ الیشع نے بادشاہ کو بتایا تھا، ”کل اِسی وقت شہر کے دروازے پر ساڑھے 5 کلو گرام بہترین میدہ اور 11 کلو گرام جَو چاندی کے ایک سِکے کے لئے بِکے گا۔“

And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

افسر نے اعتراض کیا تھا، ”یہ ناممکن ہے، خواہ رب آسمان کے دریچے کیوں نہ کھول دے۔“ اور مردِ خدا نے جواب دیا تھا، ”آپ اپنی آنکھوں سے اِس کا مشاہدہ کریں گے، لیکن خود اُس میں سے کچھ نہیں کھائیں گے۔“

And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.

اب یہ پیش گوئی پوری ہوئی، کیونکہ بےقابو لوگوں نے اُسے شہر کے دروازے پر پاؤں تلے کچل دیا، اور وہ مر گیا۔
