II Kings 3

Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

اخی اب کا بیٹا یورام یہوداہ کے بادشاہ یہوسفط کے 18ویں سال میں اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنا۔ اُس کی حکومت کا دورانیہ 12 سال تھا اور اُس کا دار الحکومت سامریہ رہا۔

And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

اُس کا چال چلن رب کو ناپسند تھا، اگرچہ وہ اپنے ماں باپ کی نسبت کچھ بہتر تھا۔ کیونکہ اُس نے بعل دیوتا کا وہ ستون دُور کر دیا جو اُس کے باپ نے بنوایا تھا۔

Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

توبھی وہ یرُبعام بن نباط کے اُن گناہوں کے ساتھ لپٹا رہا جو کرنے پر یرُبعام نے اسرائیل کو اُکسایا تھا۔ وہ کبھی اُن سے دُور نہ ہوا۔

And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

موآب کا بادشاہ میسع بھیڑیں رکھتا تھا، اور سالانہ اُسے بھیڑ کے ایک لاکھ بچے اور ایک لاکھ مینڈھے اُن کی اُون سمیت اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کو خراج کے طور پر ادا کرنے پڑتے تھے۔

But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

لیکن جب اخی اب فوت ہوا تو موآب کا بادشاہ تابع نہ رہا۔

And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

تب یورام بادشاہ نے سامریہ سے نکل کر تمام اسرائیلیوں کی بھرتی کی۔

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

ساتھ ساتھ اُس نے یہوداہ کے بادشاہ یہوسفط کو اطلاع دی، ”موآب کا بادشاہ سرکش ہو گیا ہے۔ کیا آپ میرے ساتھ اُس سے لڑنے جائیں گے؟“ یہوسفط نے جواب بھیجا، ”جی، مَیں آپ کے ساتھ جاؤں گا۔ ہم تو بھائی ہیں۔ میری قوم کو اپنی قوم اور میرے گھوڑوں کو اپنے گھوڑے سمجھیں۔

And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

ہم کس راستے سے جائیں؟“ یورام نے جواب دیا، ”ہم ادوم کے ریگستان سے ہو کر جائیں گے۔“

So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

چنانچہ اسرائیل کا بادشاہ یہوداہ کے بادشاہ کے ساتھ مل کر روانہ ہوا۔ ملکِ ادوم کا بادشاہ بھی ساتھ تھا۔ اپنے منصوبے کے مطابق اُنہوں نے ریگستان کا راستہ اختیار کیا۔ لیکن چونکہ وہ سیدھے نہیں بلکہ متبادل راستے سے ہو کر گئے اِس لئے سات دن کے سفر کے بعد اُن کے پاس پانی نہ رہا، نہ اُن کے لئے، نہ جانوروں کے لئے۔

And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بولا، ”ہائے، رب ہمیں اِس لئے یہاں بُلا لایا ہے کہ ہم تینوں بادشاہوں کو موآب کے حوالے کرے۔“

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

لیکن یہوسفط نے سوال کیا، ”کیا یہاں رب کا کوئی نبی نہیں ہے جس کی معرفت ہم رب کی مرضی جان سکیں؟“ اسرائیل کے بادشاہ کے کسی افسر نے جواب دیا، ”ایک تو ہے، الیشع بن سافط جو الیاس کا قریبی شاگرد تھا، وہ اُس کے ہاتھوں پر پانی ڈالنے کی خدمت انجام دیا کرتا تھا۔“

And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

یہوسفط بولا، ”رب کا کلام اُس کے پاس ہے۔“ تینوں بادشاہ الیشع کے پاس گئے۔

And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

لیکن الیشع نے اسرائیل کے بادشاہ سے کہا، ”میرا آپ کے ساتھ کیا واسطہ؟ اگر کوئی بات ہو تو اپنے ماں باپ کے نبیوں کے پاس جائیں۔“ اسرائیل کے بادشاہ نے جواب دیا، ”نہیں، ہم اِس لئے یہاں آئے ہیں کہ رب ہی ہم تینوں کو یہاں بُلا لایا ہے تاکہ ہمیں موآب کے حوالے کرے۔“

And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

الیشع نے کہا، ”رب الافواج کی حیات کی قَسم جس کی خدمت مَیں کرتا ہوں، اگر یہوداہ کا بادشاہ یہاں موجود نہ ہوتا تو پھر مَیں آپ کا لحاظ نہ کرتا بلکہ آپ کی طرف دیکھتا بھی نہ۔ لیکن مَیں یہوسفط کا خیال کرتا ہوں،

But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

اِس لئے کسی کو بُلائیں جو سرود بجا سکے۔“ کوئی سرود بجانے لگا تو رب کا ہاتھ الیشع پر آ ٹھہرا،

And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

اور اُس نے اعلان کیا، ”رب فرماتا ہے کہ اِس وادی میں ہر طرف گڑھوں کی کھدائی کرو۔

For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

گو تم نہ ہَوا اور نہ بارش دیکھو گے توبھی وادی پانی سے بھر جائے گی۔ پانی اِتنا ہو گا کہ تم، تمہارے ریوڑ اور باقی تمام جانور پی سکیں گے۔

And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

لیکن یہ رب کے نزدیک کچھ نہیں ہے، وہ موآب کو بھی تمہارے حوالے کر دے گا۔

And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

تم تمام قلعہ بند اور مرکزی شہروں پر فتح پاؤ گے۔ تم ملک کے تمام اچھے درختوں کو کاٹ کر تمام چشموں کو بند کرو گے اور تمام اچھے کھیتوں کو پتھروں سے خراب کرو گے۔“

And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

اگلی صبح تقریباً اُس وقت جب غلہ کی نذر پیش کی جاتی ہے ملکِ ادوم کی طرف سے سیلاب آیا، اور نتیجے میں وادی کے تمام گڑھے پانی سے بھر گئے۔

And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

اِتنے میں تمام موآبیوں کو پتا چل گیا تھا کہ تینوں بادشاہ ہم سے لڑنے آ رہے ہیں۔ چھوٹوں سے لے کر بڑوں تک جو بھی اپنی تلوار چلا سکتا تھا اُسے بُلا کر سرحد کی طرف بھیجا گیا۔

And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

صبح سویرے جب موآبی لڑنے کے لئے تیار ہوئے تو طلوعِ آفتاب کی سرخ روشنی میں وادی کا پانی خون کی طرح سرخ نظر آیا۔

And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

موآبی چلّانے لگے، ”یہ تو خون ہے! تینوں بادشاہوں نے آپس میں لڑ کر ایک دوسرے کو مار دیا ہو گا۔ آؤ، ہم اُن کو لُوٹ لیں!“

And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

لیکن جب وہ اسرائیلی لشکرگاہ کے قریب پہنچے تو اسرائیلی اُن پر ٹوٹ پڑے اور اُنہیں مار کر بھگا دیا۔ پھر اُنہوں نے اُن کے ملک میں داخل ہو کر موآب کو شکست دی۔

And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir–haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

چلتے چلتے اُنہوں نے تمام شہروں کو برباد کیا۔ جب بھی وہ کسی اچھے کھیت سے گزرے تو ہر سپاہی نے ایک پتھر اُس پر پھینک دیا۔ یوں تمام کھیت پتھروں سے بھر گئے۔ اسرائیلیوں نے تمام چشموں کو بھی بند کر دیا اور ہر اچھے درخت کو کاٹ ڈالا۔ آخر میں صرف قیرحراست قائم رہا۔ لیکن فلاخن چلانے والے اُس کا محاصرہ کر کے اُس پر حملہ کرنے لگے۔

And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

جب موآب کے بادشاہ نے جان لیا کہ مَیں شکست کھا رہا ہوں تو اُس نے تلواروں سے لیس 700 آدمیوں کو اپنے ساتھ لیا اور ادوم کے بادشاہ کے قریب دشمن کا محاصرہ توڑ کر نکلنے کی کوشش کی، لیکن بےفائدہ۔

Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

پھر اُس نے اپنے پہلوٹھے کو جسے اُس کے بعد بادشاہ بننا تھا لے کر فصیل پر اپنے دیوتا کے لئے قربان کر کے جلا دیا۔ تب اسرائیلیوں پر بڑا غضب نازل ہوا، اور وہ شہر کو چھوڑ کر اپنے ملک واپس چلے گئے۔
