Isaiah 29

Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.

Ve Ariel, Ariel, du by hvor David slo leir! Legg år til år, la høitidene gå sin rundgang!

Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.

Da vil jeg gjøre det trangt for Ariel, og der skal være sorg og jammer; men så skal det bli mig et virkelig Ariel.

And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.

Jeg vil slå leir rundt omkring dig, og jeg vil kringsette dig med vaktposter og bygge voller mot dig.

And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Da skal du tale lavmælt fra jorden, og fra støvet skal du mumle frem dine ord; og din røst skal lyde fra jorden likesom fra en dødningemaner, og fra støvet skal din tale hviskes.

Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

Men så skal dine fienders mengde bli som fint støv, og voldsmennenes flokk som fykende agner, og det skal skje i et øieblikk, med ett.

Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

Fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal det komme en hjemsøkelse med bulder og brak og veldige drønn, hvirvelvind og storm og fortærende ildslue.

And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.

Og mengden av alle de hedningefolk som strider mot Ariel, skal bli som en drøm, et syn om natten, alle de som strider mot det og dets borg, og som trenger inn på det.

It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.

Og det skal gå som når den sultne drømmer og synes han eter, men når han våkner, da er han tom, og som når den tørste drømmer og synes han drikker, men når han våkner, se, da er han matt, og hans sjel blir maktløs; således skal det gå alle de mange hedningefolk som strider mot Sions berg.

Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

Stirr på hverandre og bli forvirret! Stirr eder blinde, og vær blinde! I er drukne, men ikke av vin; I raver, men ikke av sterk drikk.

For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

For Herren har utøst over eder en dyp søvns ånd, og han har tillukket eders øine, profetene, og tildekket eders hoder, seerne.

And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:

Og således er synet av alt dette blitt eder likesom ordene i en forseglet bok; gir en den til en som skjønner skrift, og sier: Les dette! så sier han: Jeg kan ikke, for den er forseglet.

And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

Eller en rekker boken til en som ikke skjønner skrift, med de ord: Les dette! så sier han: Jeg skjønner ikke skrift.

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Og Herren sier: Fordi dette folk holder sig nær til mig med sin munn og ærer mig med sine leber, men holder sitt hjerte langt borte fra mig, og deres frykt for mig er et menneskebud som de har lært,

Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

se, derfor vil jeg bli ved å gå underlig frem mot dette folk, underlig og forunderlig, og dets vismenns visdom skal forgå, og dets forstandige menns forstand skal skjule sig.

Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Ve dem som vil skjule i det dype for Herren hvad de har fore, og hvis gjerninger skjer i mørke, og som sier: Hvem ser oss, og hvem kjenner oss?

Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?

Hvor forvendte I er! - Er pottemakeren å akte som hans ler, så verket kunde si om ham som gjorde det: Han har ikke gjort mig, og det som er laget, si om ham som laget det: Han skjønner det ikke?

Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?

Ennu bare en liten stund, så skal Libanon bli til fruktbar mark, og den fruktbare mark aktes som skog.

And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

Og på den dag skal de døve høre bokens ord, og ut fra mulm og mørke skal de blindes øine se,

The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Og de saktmodige skal glede sig enn mere i Herren, og de fattige blandt menneskene skal fryde sig i Israels Hellige;

For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

for det er forbi med voldsmannen, og det er ute med spotteren, og utryddet blir alle de som er årvåkne til å gjøre urett,

That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.

de som gjør et menneske til synder for et ords skyld og legger snarer for den som hevder retten på tinget, og som ved løgn bøier retten for den rettferdige.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.

Derfor sier Herren så til Jakobs hus, Herren som forløste Abraham: Nu skal Jakob ikke bli til skamme, og nu skal hans åsyn ikke blekne;

But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

for når han og hans barn ser mine henders gjerning i sin midte, så skal de hellige mitt navn, og de skal hellige Jakobs Hellige, og Israels Gud skal de frykte.

They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

Og de hvis ånd fór vill, skal lære forstand, og de knurrende skal ta imot lærdom.
