Exodus 20

And God spake all these words, saying,

خدا، این سخنان را فرمود:

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

«من، خداوند هستم که شما را از سرزمین مصر، که در آن برده بودید، بیرون آوردم.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

«خدای دیگری را غیراز من پرستش نكن.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

«هیچ مجسمه و یا هیچ تمثالی از آنچه بالا در آسمان و یا پایین در زمین و یا در آبهای زیر زمین است، برای خود مساز.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

در مقابل هیچ بتی سجده مکن و آن را پرستش منما، زیرا من خداوند، که خدای تو هستم هیچ رقیبی را تحمّل نمی‌كنم و انتقام گناه کسانی را كه از من متنفّرند تا نسل سوم و چهارم از فرزندانشان می‌گیرم.

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

امّا من محبّت پایدار خود را تا هزاران نسل به کسانی که مرا دوست دارند، نشان خواهم داد.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

«نام مرا برای مقاصد شریرانه بر زبان میاور، زیرا من، خداوند خدای شما، هرکس كه نام مرا بیهوده بر زبان بیاورد مجازات خواهم کرد.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

«سبت را به‌خاطر داشته باش و آن را مقدّس بشمار.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

شش روز کار کن و تمام کارهایت را انجام بده.

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

ولی روز هفتم، روز استراحت و مخصوص خداوند است. در آن روز هیچ‌کس کار نکند. نه خودت، نه فرزندانت، نه غلامت، نه کنیزت، نه حیواناتت و نه غریبی که نزد توست.

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

من، خداوند، در شش روز زمین و آسمان و دریا و هرچه در آنهاست را ساختم و در روز هفتم استراحت کردم. به همین دلیل است که من، خداوند، سبت را متبارک ساختم و آن را تقدیس نمودم.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

«پدر و مادر خود را احترام کن تا عمر تو در سرزمینی که به تو می‌دهم طولانی شود.

Thou shalt not kill.

«قتل نکن.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

«زنا نکن.

Thou shalt not steal.

«دزدی نکن.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

«علیه همسایهٔ خود شهادت دروغ مده.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

«به خانهٔ همسایهٔ خود طمع مکن. به زنش، غلامش، کنیزش، گاوش، الاغش و هر چیزی که مال همسایه‌‌ات می‌باشد طمع نداشته باش.»

And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

وقتی مردم رعد و برق و صدای شیپور و دودی را که در کوه بود، دیدند، از ترس لرزیدند و در فاصلهٔ دور ایستادند.

And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

و به موسی گفتند: «تو با ما صحبت کن و ما گوش می‌دهیم ولی خدا با ما صحبت نکند، مبادا بمیریم.»

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

موسی گفت: «نترسید. خدا آمده است تا فقط شما را امتحان کند تا از او بترسید و گناه نکنید.»

And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

امّا مردم در فاصلهٔ دورتر ایستادند و فقط موسی به نزدیک ابر غلیظ، جایی که خدا بود، رفت.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

خداوند به موسی دستور داد که به بنی‌اسرائیل بگوید: «شما دیدید، من که خداوند هستم چگونه از آسمان با شما صحبت کردم.

Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.

از نقره یا طلا برای خود خدایان درست نکنید تا آنها را علاوه بر من پرستش نمایید.

An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.

قربانگاهی از خاک برای من بسازید و گوسفند یا بُز یا گاوی که برای قربانی سلامتی می‌گذرانی و همچنین قربانی سوختنی خود را روی آن بگذرانید. در هر جایی که مقرّر كنم كه شما در آنجا مرا عبادت كنید، به نزد شما خواهم آمد و شما را برکت خواهم داد.

And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

اگر قربانگاهی از سنگ برای من درست می‌کنی آن را با سنگ‌های تراشیده شده درست نکن. زیرا اگر ابزار خود را در آن به کار ببری آن را بی‌حرمت می‌سازی.

Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

در قربانگاهی که برای من می‌سازی پلّه نساز، زیرا هنگامی که از آن بالا می‌روی قسمت برهنهٔ بدن تو نمایان می‌شود.
